The staff of this hotel is extremely accommodating and efficient. There is however a downside to staying here. There are mariachi bands playing on the beach in front of the hotel during most daylight hours. It makes it impossible to enjoy the beach or to have a conversation with anyone. Also, we ate at the hotel on several locations and aside from the breakfast buffet, found it to be substandard. With that said, the rooms are spacious and very comfortable with a very diligent cleaning crew

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The two queen beds were very comfortable, there was a choice of soft or firm pillows, and the bedding was good quality. There are private balconies overlooking the pool, the ocean and lovely Deer island. A bar fridge would have been a welcome addition and the lighting was poor in the bathroom, which seems to be common in Mazatlan. The hotel information booklet had misinformation about the ice machine being located on two floors but the only ice machine was on the penthouse deck, near the rooftop patio bar. The beach was wide and walkable, and many restaurants and bars are very nearby. Two we enjoyed as Canadians was Twisted Mamas and Friends because of their familiar comfort food. An infinity pool overlooked the ocean, it was lovely and warm. However, on Saturday the loud BANDA music was way too loud and way too long! Not everyone enjoys that constant racket when trying to relax. There should be a time limit as to how long they are allowed to harass the Holiday Inn customers before moving on. Coffee and cups were to be supplied daily but they were not. The television has many English choices which we enjoyed. The food was decent except for the pizza with we sent back. It was pretty quiet and spacious when we stayed, during busy times it would be quite crowded for the size of the pool and deck.

Stayed for one night before going to put all inclusive el cid resort. I’ll break it down to pros and cons

Cons
Number one detracting factor would not even be the resorts fault, but it is something I would address. When you come down the stairs from the resort and hit the beach, the first fifteen feet or so is littered with garbage and cigarette butts. This is public beach, but it is very noticeable. Once you get to the point where the surf comes in, it is very clean but that is due to the tides.

Second is birds at the back landing on edge of infinity pool and “leaving a mess behind”. Morning swim was punctuated with thoughts of not getting water in my mouth….

No room facecloth in bathroom

Basic rooms have no fridges

No ice machine that we could find and not listed on door map. But there was an ice bucket!

Walls are VERY thin. If romance is in the air everyone in the vicinity knows about it😉🫣

Pros

The hotel staff were fantastic. From bellhops, to check in, to restaurant, and the bar and pool staff. I tipped heavy as they were amazing

Special days- I booked online and made notes to the fact my wife was celebrating an upcoming birthday. While it wasn’t precisely during the time we spent at the hotel, the trip itself was in celebration of her birthday and the staff at the hotel left a cake and some fruit in our room as a surprise for her. Bonus points for them for that and it was a nice touch

Rooms were very clean

Bed and pillows were fantastic

View was breathtaking

Sunset was picturesque to put it mildly

Breakfast buffet was very nice

Bar 15 was great, happy hour was fun
Shrimp was delicious

Hotel price point was reasonable

All in all a really good experience.

No chairs or umbrellas because people put towels at 8am amd saved them. Holiday inn either needs to buy more or not let people save them for all day. They sit empty and the waitors do nothing. They told us to do the same thing.

Hotel is in a fantastic location, close to the malecon, restaurants, bars. This would be an ok hotel for a couple days. Not really a vacation atmosphere. Very cold feel to the hotel. Rooms are dated and definitely in need of updating/repair. Bed was uneven from side to side so rather uncomfortable for a couple. No fridge in the room which was quite disappointing. Room offers the bare minimum, 2 bottles of water with a note that imforms you that more water will cost you. We have stayed at several holiday inn hotels, all over. The staff here were such a disappointment. Check inn was terrible. Staff seemed very uninterested in us staying there. Simply passed us 1 room card and 2 towel cards, no information on how to get to the room or the location of any of the hotel amenities. We had to actually ask for a second room card. Service was pretty much the same throughout the hotel, such an uncomfortable feeling that we were being ignored by staff because of being Canadian (lots of local guests). Pool area has a gentleman watching over the guests seemingly to make sure no outside food or drink is being consumed. ( must purchase from the restaurant/bar on site). We had originally booked a 7 day stay but left after 4 days to another hotel in the area. Breakfast was good , tried to get lunch/ drinks but as previously mentioned the service was slow or non-existent. Ate meals outside of the hotel.

Went up to the roof top restaurant to catch a sunset. The views are truly spectacular. Unfortunately it was a bit windy at sunset so we all got a bit cold. This is not a full service restaurant, just drinks and snacks. We went during happy hour. The two for one drinks were so watered down they had practically no alcohol at all. We ordered some chicken bites to share and only ate part because they were dripping with a gooey canned sauce that tasted not good at all. If you go for the sunset, dress warm just in case it gets windy, and I suggest only ordering beer as they can water it down.

This hotel is well located, rooms have an ocean view, beds are comfy, restaurant makes yummy food and it’s very affordable. Beautiful sundeck overlooking the beach/ocean and Deer Island. Only downfall is the bands that show up on the public beach and play for hours and hours. They have really loud speakers and play so loud that you cant relax, have a nap or even have a conversation with someone sitting next to you. We’ve complained to the hotel and there is nothing they can do until 8pm. They usually play for over 4hrs. Not relaxing at all. It is unfortunate because this hotel is great but I am looking forward now to leaving.

Great location. Great service and rooms but very noisy. Every bad musician in Mazatlan seems to gather on the beach in front of the hotel and belt a very loud racket, each playing a different off key tune. This goes on during the day and most of the night. If you want piece and quiet this is not the place to be.

Experience was poor. Went to the snack shop and was given a coffee with chunks of milk floating in it. When I showed them and asked for a new one they said no it was fine I had to pay a new one. Asked the management to deal with it and they were indifferent. Breakfast wasn’t great either. Room was ok but had some maintenance issues e.g lights not working etc.

The place it’s so nice, really love it. Great location and great access to the beach. The staff they were so friendly. But what’s really disappointed me was the front desk staff, they don’t provide you a nice service, feel like I was doing a favor to them and I think the the manager (women) she was so rude, and the housekeeper also super rude. My opinion I think they need more training, I really was so polite with them but looks if you nice they treats you bad.

Is the hotel offering free COVID testing for guests?
Answer from Peter R
San Francisco, California18 contributions3 helpful votes
I just got back from visiting. The Holiday Inn isn't offering a test. Upon checking they do give you information about a service available. You can pay $1,050 pesos and someone will come to you at the hotel, administer the test and bring results to you within a couple of hours. For slightly less you can go see him in the Golden Zone. I recommend going to the Salud Digna clinic, if your Spanish is decent. It's $260 pesos, for an antigen test, and they'll send you your results via WhatsApp. You can make an appointment online (everything in Spanish) but we just dropped in and got tested right away. They recommend you come after 5pm, so it's slower.
