Detailed Reviews
Casa Lucila is a very nice hotel in a great location. The service is really good and the downstairs restaurant is excellent! The room was comfortable with great beds and even better a/c. Very large bathroom with lots of storage. We did experience one BIG problem. The room is situated so that one of the doors lead directly to the pool area. When we arrived the entire pool area was closed and set up for an event. The event lasted about four hours and was LOUD. We booked this hotel mostly for the use of the pool and couldn't use if for one day. The front desk (not sure if it was managers or others) didn't seem to really care and barely apologized. I do think that we would definitely stay there again but I wish we would have been notified that this large event was happening. Without this event, I would have given the hotel the top rating.

I’m really not sure why Casa Lucila is not among the top five hotels in Mazatlán. My husband and I stayed here during our recent visit to view the total eclipse on April 8, 2024, Mazatlán being amongst the top viewing destinations along the path of totality. Casa Lucila is a beautifully restored and immaculately clean boutique hotel, located in a prime destination along Mazatlán’s famed malecón. Service was excellent, and I’d like to give a special shout-out to Fernanda, who really excels at customer service and hospitality. My husband and I have been visting Mazatlán for over three decades and have stayed in many different accomodations in this whimsical Mexican port city. Casa Lucila is hands down our favorite place to stay. Although it’s a bit pricy, it's more than worth it. I give my highest recommendation to Casa Lucila and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I'm reclining on my bed looking out to the ocean, breeze blowing in and the sound of waves on the rocks below. Last night, my wife and I had a glass of wine on the balcony, watching the cars parade along the Malecon in front of Old Town. And the night before, we wandered the picturesque, colorful streets, lit by up-lights spaced every few feet.
This is a charming hotel in a beautiful place, very convenient to all the places you want to go in Old Town. High ceilings, beautiful finishes and great amenities. I also agree that the staff is incredibly friendly and professional: el mejor.
We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I travel to Mexico in the winter every year, but have never been to Mazatlán. Sometimes we like stay in all inclusive 5 star resorts and sometimes we like the small Boutique hotels. We just got back from the 7 night stay at Casa Lucila.
In short, extremely overpriced for a 4 star hotel, without the basic amenities like: coffee in the room, fresh bottle of water every day, hairdryer, mirror extra hangers etc. We asked to speak with manager, but was told he is not there. The standard comment was always a polite explanation that it is under new management and things changed.
The design was very spartan, old worn minimal furniture and no decorations whatsoever. Our small room #4 was in the middle of row of four, all sharing the same balcony. The view was breathtaking, but felt uncomfortable sharing, including simple wood chair and small table. The bathroom was large but completely empty, devoid of spaces to hang towels or place toiletries.
The pool area was a small terrace with a 5m x2m pool shared with two other rooms. Altogether despite the breathtaking views it was not attractive nor charming as one would expect in such a pretentious Boutique Hotel.
We do have to point several plusses: the location is absolutely the best for visiting Centro or going to Rock Island, beach across the road and al the restaurants and bars within a few blocks. The staff is very friendly and tries the best, but is uninformed and always refers to the non existing manager, whom we did not manage to meet till the end. And lastly, the place is very clean. The linens, old but clean and fresh every day and room nicely tidied. Common areas also very well maintained.
Altogether, not up to expectations versus the price!

The experience had positives and negatives. It was in a great location close to bars and restaurants but that also made the nights sometimes noisy. Being on the Malacon was beautiful but also very noisy at night with locals and music from clubs. Staff were friendly but inexperienced and struggled with simple tasks that should be seen as basic.
One employee stood out for us and added to our positive experience. Alejandro had good recommendations and was always able to satisfy our needs. He was the only employee that was able to help us with requests. A very pleasant person all the time.

Came to this place after a recommendation from a good friend and after reading all the good reviews the decision was no brainer.
Since the beginning we had a bad experience, the reception was really unfriendly, then the room didn’t have soap and similar things.
The only amenity at the hotel, a small pool was cold and after I asked, the service guys told me that to get it warm would take at least a day.
Service people told me that hotel was bought by a new group and that since then things changed to bad...
Its a shame... had great expectations...

We booked a table for our Breakfast Club meetup and were greeted with warm hospitality that made us feel right at home. We had a delightful breakfast at a fantastic location. The food was expertly cooked and absolutely delicious, offering a variety of options to suit everyone’s taste. The setting, with its stunning views of Olas Altas and the ocean, was simply ideal. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

If it weren’t for the spectacular location, this would be a 2-star review.
Check-in was fine and easy, except communication was a bit of an issue. I don’t speak much Spanish and they don’t speak much English.
My biggest issue came from a lack of customer service and noise. They LITERALLY started construction above our room at 9:30p, wrapping up after 11:00p. No joke. I’m talking power tools, ladders being dragged, workers taking over the noise, etc. when I called the front there was not even a hint of an apology.
Other random bits of annoyance include a bathroom that permanently smelled of sulfur, room service but no menu provided, all extras (massages, food, wine, etc) could not be charged to the room, a front desk attendant who was only nice to my husband, watery coffee, and then some.
But the terrace? SPECTACULAR. The spacious room and bathroom? FANTASTIC.
It’s a high-priced, boutique hotel on the malecon. They need to do better.

This is an amazing place. I would say it is one of the absolute best places I have ever stayed in my life. It was an old, old building that was renovated by the owners and they did an incredible job. The setting - near the old part of Mazatlan up a hill and right across from the ocean, is amazing. It is quiet, peaceful, beautiful, authentic Mazatlan.
The hotel is incredible. Small, quaint, charming, tasteful - you can see for yourself from the pictures. The swimming pool isn't really super functional as it is so small but it is beautiful. We practiced yoga on the patio area facing the ocean...
There is a great restaurant. Good food. There was even a saxaphone player playing at the hotel the evening when we arrived. Good selection of books in the hotel library. Nice common areas to sit and chill and hang out.
We stayed in the cheapest room, the Alma room, which although it was nice and spacious, it was quite dark. I don't know if I would want to stay in that room again for an extended period?
The hotel is close to restaurants and very close to the main plaza in the old town. In my opinion, this is a far, far better location than the other end of town (the zona dorada - which is the touristy end). I have stayed at three other hotels in Mazatlan before over the years and this is by far the most outstanding. Last time I didn't stay here and I wish I had. The only downside is though the beach here is nice and very swimmable, the beach at the zona dorada end of town is a bit nicer.
All in all, if in Mazatlan...this is really a wonderful place....this would be an awesome location for an event/honeymoon/romantic getaway/to recuperate from life/to write a novel/to have an alternate trip to Mazatlan where you don't stay in an all inclusive and stuff yourself silly at a buffet every night...

To untiligettobali, Thank you for the great review! We appreciate your honesty and have made some changes to the lighting in the Alma Room since you have last visited. It is a room that unfortunately does not face the ocean so we try to be creative with ways to bring more natural light into the room. We hope that you come back soon and check out our updated library book selections as many news books have made their way to our bookcases. Come back soon! Sophia Hotel Manager

I was skeptical about the overwhelming number of 'Excellent' reviews on this site for this boutique hotel. I also had never been to Mazatlan in my life, and was a little worried about the travel advisory for much of Mexico.
HOWEVER, when I got to Mazatlan (only 3 hours from Houston) my expectations were blown away and my worries dissolved. I stopped at a seaside restaurant before checking in, at the recommendation of Casa Lucila's owners, and had the freshest Marlin and fish tacos of my life. After a bucket of half-pint Pacificos (brewed and bottled in Mazatlan), I was relaxed, half-tipsy and ready to take a nap in my bed. The owners of Casa Lucila greeted me at their charming establishment and I felt as if the wind whipping off the Pacific floated me up to my room. My room was clean, elegant and quiet. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I fell asleep gazing at an incomparable view of the sunset.
Over the next few days, I went on a couple of excursions. I don't like touristy things, so I visited the old town's plazas, opera house and restaurants, and walked along the boardwalk --they call it a Malecon. Also, took a day trip to an off the beaten path tequila distillery that was incredible! I got a private tour for free and tasted some of the best Mezcal of my life (I bought two, large bottles at $27USD a piece!). A day-trip to Quelite, a small pueblo 45mins. from Mazatlan, for a grande lunch and donkey ride was also memorable.
I can say without a doubt that Mazatlan is incredibly safe, the people are friendly and the owners of this place have found and built a diamond in the rough! I would absolutely recommend coming to Mazatlan for the first time and to bring friends, loved-ones and lovers. I will be back for what I hear is their most exciting time of year: Carnival in late Feb. early March.

Dearest Tommy, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your good time! We work hard to give good food and service so it makes our team feel great when we hear we've hit the mark, so thank you! We too agree that much of the travel advisory can be a little disconcerting but we appreciate the folks who still make it down to Mazatlan. We hope we can see you back, and thank you for the "diamond in the rough" note! We look forward to having you stay with us during Carnival, the most fun time to stay with us! Hi cliu, thank you so much for your interest. All but two rooms have ocean view. Lucy and Alma do not have views of the ocean but rather have views of the indoor courtyard. Rooms Conchita and Lupita are on the top floor with the infinity pool shared by everyone. The remaining rooms are all located on the second floor. They are all relatively comparable, except sizes of the rooms vary.
Hi Murphy_Rios, we apologize for the delay in responding! The Esther Room also has access to a front patio and has a king size bed. It is located on the 2nd floor of the building and is one of our most popular rooms.
Thanks for inquiring!
Sophia
Hi Marissa!
Thanks for your interest in staying with us at Casa Lucila. We are currently and unfortunately not pet friendly as we don't have services and required accommodations in place for our pet friends.
