Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

nice view, but it was raining when we were there, the main door of the house did not lock, they promise to service but we can't lock the door. because it rain and water was an issue with the floor, we put some towels to dry our feet, (no rugs in front of any door), they want to charge us $ 17.00 for dirty towels, no manager around. at the end after 20 minutes of talking with a nice girl on registration, the housekeeping told us that she will wash the towels at no charge.

To start off I love the location. It’s unfortunate that the service and the facilities on at the quality of the location. To start off we had one of the new sweets, the blinds were broke to do the ocean whole point of the room. The TV did not work at all.

I went to the restaurant at 11:30 on a Tuesday after sleeping in and working from my room. Try to order breakfast I was the only person in the restaurant & on the deck. Was advised they couldn’t serve breakfast. It was too late in the day. ( 5 waiters& hostess plus kitchen staff doing nothing just in circle chatting) I am the only customer are you serious?

Every time I went to the front desk to ask for help with the room regarding the broken blinds in the TV that didn’t work the individual at the desk was always too busy to follow up.

I did meet the new manager and he was bringing people on the property to use the beach by the bus loads. So it seems that he is forward think & hopefully he will take care of the property and its customers better then the current 1.5 star service you’re currently receiving from them.

I have stayed at the Castillos del Mar now twice and I assure you this is a fantastic location. The hotel is older but you can see they are in the process of remodeling. I still don't mind staying in the older rooms that over look the ocean. The place has a great onsite bar called Ernesto which is managed by my favorite bartender Ernesto. He will make you feel right at home in this little hidden gem on the cliffs. Tell him Dennis sent you.

Do not consider staying here. Customer service is very poor and the quality of the rooms matches. I stayed in their “updated” Sunio suite. First impression was check-in procedures and customer service was not existent. I figured, people might have their not so perfect days, but was again disappointed upon entering my room. I booked the Sunio suite and it is horrible. The room was very unkept, which concerned me to think of other parts of the hotel that may also not be taken seriously, i.e. restaurants, security, etc… The room’s walls need cleaning, as they are littered with scrapes, hand prints, and smears. The baseboards and parts of the wall have damage, mold, and paint separating from the wall. There are exposed wires by the bed. The shower had shelves taken out, but silicon still on the walls that once held the shelves. Toilet was not secured to the floor, due to rusted bolts and silicon not present. I could write more, but would just be reliving this horrible experience. I’ve stayed at many hotels in many countries and I could not even rate the stay as poor. Beware if a wedding party is occurring as you will have music blaring past midnight. For the price, value it not worth it. The pros are good location and beach club, but you can visit the beach club with being a hotel guest. At a stretch, the room is probably worth $60 to $75 USD a night.

NOT RECOMMENDED!!! Very bad customer service, at the moment of arrival the employees didn't want to grant us access because they didn't have our reservation in their sheets and instead of calling front desk to ask they just said no, we called front desk and hour before our checking to make sure everything was fine and they said yes our reservation was still there, but when we arrived the employees didn't want use the radio to call front desk to verify. We called front desk more than 5 times and didn't pick up the phone, after more than 5 minutes of trying to call front desk and insisting the employee to just use the radio he finally did and front desk confirmed our reservation to him. But the horrible service doesn't end there, we went to eat at their restaurant and the waiters were horrible, after ten minutes waiting for the waiter to bring us the menu or the QR code we nicely asked if if we can get the menu and the waiter responded out loud to us "well they can leave if they don't like it"
We only asked for the menu why would you say something like that.
The rooms are very bad the walls are so thin you can hear the upstairs room every time they moved in their bed and when they walked it sounded really loud.
At the moment of check out the receptionist was not at all friendly or polite.
This hotel needs to work massively on their customer service.

It’s been years since I’ve stayed at castillos Del Mar, always remember the small, homie little environment. Even as a child. Well today, after many years I am back. I am beyond disappointed, saddened at what it’s become. What used to be an affordable, easy place to stay. Has turned into an over priced, cheap rendition. I get times have changed, people need to make money, but don’t lie to me castillos. You show me beautiful pictures of what I’d hope I’d be getting for $147 a night before taxes, and yet… I get here and it’s 2 floors to low, a bed size too small, and a few more roaches running around then I paid for. This is a heart break, a joke. After many years I’ve finally returned to castillos, only to never come back again. I’m signing this place off and from the bottom of my heart I do not recommend you stay at castillos.

Just do yourself a favor and go onto your next Rosario option. This is not the place for you or anyone. We rented a 2/2 house on the property for 300 a night and the personnel went OUT OF THEIR WAY to be wankery wads of putrid scum. And I am a Mexican. Maybe that’s why. Who knows. I actually burst into real huge hot tears of anger and frustration at this place. Really, just stay the f away.

First of all the room was dirty and very crummy. No light in the room besides two small lights. No AC and tons of roaches and pests. I came for a wedding and checked out the same night like 10 pm when the roaches officially took over the room. I had to leave Mexico and drive back home because I got this crappy dirty room. I highly suggest not staying here. This room was over priced and had only the basics . You have no dead bolt just a simple lock. The room is like a million degrees with no fan. I’ve traveled all over Mexico from small towns to resort city’s this was by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in Mexico. Actually the worst hotel I’ve stayed in any where in the world. Was charged $200 for the pleasure of being in the worst hotel ever. I stayed in $12 hotels that were cleaner. Take some pride and clean up your hotel!

The room door didn’t close right, the back room door didn’t even slide shut. There was a hole in the carpet in the middle of the room, we had no towels asked the receptionist twice, and the comforter smelled. And the toilet was leaking, on the last day we were there. The only thing it has going was the view from the hotel.

Booked the hotel for a weekend and they over booked the room we had chosen. The room that we paid for was given to another guest. The receptionist has me wait 2 hours for another room and when they finally gave me another room it was dirty! The bed sheets were dirty and the tub was also dirty. The floor was not clean either and I notified the staff and supposedly they went back to clean it and it looked the same. Not a pleasant experience at all.

Do they have heaters in the rooms?
Answer from Don R
Dana Point, California42 contributions37 helpful votes
I didn't see any heating or AC in the room I was in (I was in the newer building adjacent to the main building). I was there in summer and ocean breezes kept the room comfortable. I'd definitely confirm with the hotel before booking at at time of year when you'd need heat.
