Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looking for somewhere to stay after a concert at Cardiff Arms Park, we discovered that everywhere in south Wales was full or extortionately expensive, with the exception of Raglan Lodge, which had a room for £50. Its location was not tiringly far from Cardiff, and was on our route home, giving options to return on the major road network or cross country. The room was as I would have expected from a Travelodge, but on this occasion less expensive. Catering and environment at the site were adequate, but not inspiring. At that price, though, I would not have expected any more.

Some recycling bins had been delivered to the recption area but not unpacked, making it a little bit untidy. There was a slow water leak, dripping into a bucket, near reception - though it had obviously been identified and was being worked on. Other residents were up early and allowed doors to slam - but the lodge can't prevent bad manners.

Was attending a big conference in Newport and virtually all of the hotels were booked up. There were four of us so we opted for 2 rooms here for the 4 nights. A bit fiddly to get to if you pass the turn off on the motorway but once we got the hang of it we were able to get in and out fine. It’s a lodge next door to a petrol station. It felt very grubby and I felt itchy most of the time I was there. The space was good, large bed and sofa with desk area, chair and wardrobe. Bathroom was basic but okay. Room seemed hurriedly cleaned. Gave it a clean as best we could and kept the do not disturb sign on throughout our stay. Corridors were filthy. The kettle was broken and leaked from the bottom when it started to boil. Water leaked out all over the desk and around the edge of a laptop that was on the desk, thankfully we managed to grab it in time and save damage. Seems almost impossible to get hold of anyone by ringing so we had to walk over to the service station to speak to staff if we needed anything. I know the rooms were only £50 but it seems just a couple of little touches would make it a lot better.
Thankfully we spent most of the day away from the lodge and mostly used it to sleep and get dressed. There’s a Burger King at the restaurant area and you get 50% off if you’re staying at the lodge. There's also a mini Asda good for food, cleaning products and other bits. A Greg's if you fancy it for brekkie.

Travelled here just for a 2 night break to visit Barry Island and other small towns with my partner and 2 year old. There was nothing in my email to say check in at Asda or on the door so I was stood for a while waiting. Finally got key for room went in and room looked ok luckily wasn’t smelly or dirty like the other reviews stated then I entered the bathroom….. sat down on toilet and noticed a dirty pair of boxers behind bathroom door and only a few squares of toilet roll. Couldn’t get hold of anyone so in the morning walked over the road and asked for the manager to be fair he was nice and apologetic and gave the cleaner who looked like a lazy good for nothing young kid who couldn’t be bothered to do her job a good shouting at and told her to sort my room also refunded me for 1 night, you could just tell they had complaints day in and day out, I was in room 22 and other than that I can honestly say I didn’t have any problems beds was comfy and no noise or mould in my room, but they need sort the staff out when I walked in the garage to get drinks there was 2 young girls sat chuckling giggling with each other turns out they was the cleaners 1 of them reminded me of Vicky Pollard from little Britain and just stood with a gormless look on her face when the manager told her to do her job properly. All in all I would stay again but I can only go off my room which other than some dirty sods dirty boxers was ok

OFFICALL REVIEW
The place had very soft staff
Which make me think perhaps I should be a resident of Wales
Specifically a official member, Will will greet you very nicely by the time you enter the place
And ask him questions and he will answer them and to my surprise the place was actually hygienic and also stop saying you're not fond of the place cause it's great

Quite frankly I was disgusting and disappointed with my stay. I told the staff at the Asda as much. I also replied to their if you had any issues let us know email and never received a response. I can whole heartily say i have never stayed in a place that has had this many issues. We went down for a wedding as rented two rooms both were gross.

The rooms weren't clean.
The bin hadn't been emptied in one room.
Both had stained towels, and bedding.
One had blood or something all over the duvet in the room.
The toilet was unflushed when we arrived.
The sides were covered in crumbs.
One room was missing the toilet roll holder.
The fire alarm went off and there is NO fire assembly point. There is no sign for one anywhere on site that we could find.
There were stains all over the floors.
There was a random piece of wood in one room.
There was leaks and holes in the ceiling in the hall. The foyer was a mess and disgusting.
When we arrived I had to pay a second time before they would release they key even though the funds were held with the bank as a pending payment and had been for several days. This causes issues financially on this trip.

I wish I had read the reviews before booking here. The hotel states 24 hour reception. This is in fact a check in across the road at a garage. I wouldn't have felt safe here on my own. I have never stayed at accommodation which was so dusty! The shelves were thick with dust and the floor didn't look like it have ever been hoovered. The bathroom had mould and there were toothpaste splatters all up the wall. The bed was so basic and uncomfortable with springs sticking in you all night. Not a good night sleep at all. Our bedroom was right next to the main door which banged every time someone came in and out. The halls and entrance had buckets and water coming in which from reading other reviews has been ongoing for a long time. Not a place I will be returning to.

Please read all reviews before considering staying at this place!
My husband booked this as a stop over on route to Dorset. He said it was listed at basic…
From outside is does look ok BUT as stated in other peoples reviews there no security or even any staff here.
It’s absolutely filthy
Yes it’s only £50 but still you would expect it to be clean
If this was my hotel I’d be ashamed to let people stay here
The service station next door is equally dirty and disgusting looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in months
There must be a serious lack of cleaners available in the area
Not a good avert for people arriving to visit wales!

Stayed here a few times in the past. But as time goes on, the Lodge has got worse. Internet is certainly not fast, rooms and corridors could do with an update ( paint the walls, get rid of the holes in the walls, and the musky smell of damp)The Lodge needs a very good clean ( check the blinds for squashed flies which was there when I checked into the room..The super Smart tv it certainly isnt. Wont connect to your phone, only a few channels available and those channels you can get are continuously interupted by bad signal.
I definately wont be back in a hurry.

When we turned up to this place we were shown a room that was far from clean. Toilet was dirty and smelt of number two with the marks to go with it in the toilet. Bunk bed had stains on it. Smell was far from great. Complained to front desk who changed our room thankfully. This was all down to one lady called Judith who kindly gave us fresh bed linen and cleaned another other room for us. She deserves a pay rise without doubt. Thankyou Judith otherwise we would have left A.S.A.P if it were not for you. Luckily it was for only one night!

Very good quality rooms and very warm when it's cold outside. just very disappointed about some of the people that are staying there very loud no thought to other people that are staying there. And I have been told that the manager doesn't tolerate any trouble then I think he or she needs to go and find out on what is going on there some of them are on drugs and it's wrong to the people that are not and they don't car about disabled people that stay there. OK it's very wheelchair and mobility scooter friendly but the doors in the hall ways ain't very wide to fit them through. But very welcoming staff and very pleasant when asked questions about things it's very well maintained but I think the cleaners need to know how to hoover or ask the people that stay there to clean their shoes before entering the building as the carpets are very new by the seems of it and for the social housing side of things that are staying there I think they need to get rid of some of them as none of them have any manners and very rude
