At the west end of New Providence lies an exquisite hideaway. A STONE'S THROW AWAY is perched on one of the highest elevations by the coast. Here our Guests can indulge in a rare panoramic view of Nassau 's land and sea. The scenery boasts the best of the island's natural wonders, from the native pine forest by Lake Killarney to the brim of the coral reefs that protect the glimmering beaches of west Nassau. The property was recently built to echo the traditions of an old Bahamian home: wood floors and wood ceilings, louvered shutters and a large wrap around porch bring the visitors back to a quieter time long ago when the music of the islands could be heard in the whispers of the trade winds.

Stone's Throw is super close to the airport--about a 5 minute drive. (But a taxi cost the four of us $35 each way. Yikes.)

The hotel itself is charming in setting. The steps to walk up to the lobby and rooms, the pool area, and the lounge area are all cute. (There are MANY stairs and it is steep.) The view of the water once you arrive is stunning since you're at the top of a hill. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are also cute with plenty of character, but it could use some renovation. We had to switch rooms because our first room did not have hot water or really any water pressure to speak of. It was an easy process to switch rooms; no biggie. In the new room, the dial and drain cover on the shower were broken (but still functional). There isn't privacy between the room and bathroom because they have shutters between instead of a full wall. This is probably fine for some, but if you're trying to conceal bathroom functions, it's not ideal. When we changed rooms, we got one facing the ocean with some lounge chairs and a day bed, so that was a nice place to relax in the evening.

It is a quick 5 minute walk to get down to a beach, but the hill is steep and certainly requires some cardio stamina. The location of this hotel isn't great if you're one who wants to eat at restaurants or go to a store to pick up snacks. It's about a 10 minute walk to a few restaurants in one direction (Studio Cafe is where we went and it was awesome), but the walk is a bit treacherous this way with no sidewalks and having to walk for a few minutes on a busy road. There is a coffee shop and another restaurant set to open soon in the other direction.

The bus comes every 15 minutes or so at the bottom of the hill near the beach. It's $1.50 for each ride, so this is an easy way to get to downtown (which takes about 25 minutes to get to).

Overall, I'd say we got out money's worth at Stone's Throw, but knowing what you're getting going in is important.

I've stayed here a number of times and I'm getting tired of the arrogant attitude. It's a nice place but I get the impression that "I'm not sure you're good enough to stay here". Answers to straightforward questions come with an attitude that I'm ignorant (I'm a million miler on two airlines). Last trip I asked for an early morning taxi to the airport and because it was so early I was concerned about no-show so I asked for a phone number in case taxi did not show. That request was brushed off with "they are guaranteed" and no phone number provided. You guessed it - no show. The security watchman nicely gave me a ride to the airport or I would have missed my plane.

This property has such great potential, but is not being kept up. I felt like it was definitely not worth the $296 per night charge. Also various websites state “breakfast included” and “restaurant on property” Only after I confronted management with proof that our breakfast was included, did they take off the 2 breakfast charges. The cold continental breakfast was listed at $12.00pp. A “hot” breakfast, which consisted of a dry cheese omelet, was listed as $17.00pp - no other choices. The nightly dinner menu stayed the same - doesn’t change. I have a picture of the menu. Hope you all like Indian food because that’s all there is. Beautiful Pool area, but could better cleaning.

We needed a one night stay in Nassau between flights and we thought we would treat ourselves to staying at A Stones Throw. Sure, the location is great and the old stone and castle like setting was pretty great. But our room was rundown and smelly. It was damp and the furniture was old and tired. I felt like I was back in pirate times with a small room and a poorly equipped bathroom. The ocean view porch is huge but you share it with the room next door so it’s not private. The bathroom was really small and the shower knob fell off when turned on. No hooks to hang anything on and the itty bitty closet smelled dank. The cold breakfast the next morning was good but they only offer you paper plates and cups and plastic cutlery. For over $300US a night I want a cup of coffee in a mug, not a disposable paper cup. Brutal. I was shocked quite honestly. The view on the main deck is stunning but they need to up their game in finer services and decor to match the bill you pay. I won’t stay here again.

I visited A Stones Throw Away in November with my family.
It is a beautiful hotel literally a stones throw away from the airport and the beach.

Being located on a cliff, the ocean view is simply divine. I would literally just sit for hours on the deck out front to enjoy the spectacular view.
They also have a beautiful swimming pool with a very natural look since its made out of stones.
The food was delicious. They had an amazing variety of Indian dishes.
The rooms were very clean and had a very authentic feel.

The staff was very welcoming and cooperative.
They provided pick up and drop to the airport.
The beach is at a two minute walk and easily accessible.

Rooms: 5/5
Food: 5/5
Staff: 5/5
Location: 5/5

Would definitely recommend this place for the faboulous food and divine view.

A homely stay in Nassau. Quite & quaint. Felt like I had the whole place to myself. The morning views of the ocean from the room & the balcony are splendid - with the location on a high cliff extending the range of the horizon. You feel that you are in one of the secluded islands. Food & service was good with attentive staff. Loved the wooden staircases, old Bahamian art & the clam. Jean was very helpful with dropping me back to the airport. Highly recommended.

Initially when you arrive it seems beautiful, quite & peaceful. We stayed here two nights and both nights were woke up by whomever was staying above us, making loud noise. It sounded like they were moving furniture around. It was difficult to get someone at the front desk, we waiting 10+ mins and no one ever showed, no signs saying they were out or anything. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. Overall was not a pleasant stay.

I use this property for all business travel to Nassau and have always been very happy with the "outer island" feel of the personalized laid back but warm attitude of the owner and the staff. The addition of the Indian restaurant was a unique but very appropriate and now you don't need to leave the property to have a great meal (many folks come in from elsewhere to dine as well). Wonderful place to enjoy the end of day on the deck and relax. Easy access (yes, the stairs are there but it helps with getting the steps in for the day!) to head to Nassau or western New Providence for meetings, it's a real gem.

The property is peaceful, tranquil, and very beautiful. We felt like we had the place to ourselves which was a welcome change from the large resorts like Atlantis and Baha Mar. The staff was friendly and accommodating too! Great Indian cuisine served at the terrace every night, and within walking distance to a great Oceanside locals conch shack. We will be back the next time we need to make a stopover In Nassau to get to the other islands.

Thanks for choosing A Stone's Throw Away to spend your anniversary with us. For all our honeymooners and anniversary guest we try our best to offer a complimentary dinner from our menu, breakfast or a bottle of wine send to the room. Sometimes the buses runs to Nirvana beach/Love beach not very frequently, cost on the bus is $1.50 per person/per trip, proximate time driving is 5 minutes on the bus.. Another way from the hotel to Nirvana beach is walking, a nice morning or afternoon it take around 20 - 25 minutes. Cab fare from the hotel to Nirvana beach is $10.00 one way. Nirvana beach is a great spot for snorkeling and is one of the most beautiful beach in Nassau. On the beach you can rent snorkeling gears, beach umbrella and beach chairs, and another good thing about visiting Nirvana beach there is a snack restaurant and a bar for any type of beverages. Cheers.

Is there a charge for shuttle/ride to the airport? Reviews are mixed on this.
Answer from ASTA_Front Desk
Nassau, New Providence Island
Due to the layout changes made at Nassau's International Airport we no longer provide a shuttle service to/from the Airport. Once you exit the arrival area at Nassau's International Airport, you will note the taxi stand. Have one of the friendly taxi drivers transfer you to our Hotel. The trip is 5-7 minutes from the Airport to the Hotel. The current cost is approximately $15.00 - $18.00 per trip (dependent upon luggage and number of guests). Reminder to advise the Hotel of your arrival details so that we may greet you at the Hotel's entrance gate and assist with luggage to the Reception area (2nd floor) and then onto your room. We look forward to you visiting our property.

How far away is the beach? Is it walking distance?
Answer from ASTA_Front Desk
Nassau, New Providence Island
BEACHES: There are lots of options for beaches. Just 5 minutes away from the Hotel is a public beach. There are parts that are quite rocky and further along you can find nice sandy areas to relax or swim. Love Beach or Nirvana Beach: is a private beach that can be accessed if you are a guest of ASTA. This is a 20 minute walk from the Hotel. Here you can rent loungers, purchase cool drinks and cocktails to relax along this pristine stretch of beach. If you are already heading into the 'downtown/bay street' area - you will pass either Goodman's Bay beach; Saunders beach or Arawak Cay beach. Please do not hesitate to ask our Front Desk staff to assist with making a selection that fits your vacation needs.
