John's Unique Resort is exactly what is advertised, a small budget family run hotel, its located 100 meters, from the centre of Hillsborourgh. Before arriving i had stayed a week on Greneda without air con, big mistake! However my room at John's Unique had air con. (winner) also a mini fridge and kettle, my friends had room 1 which also had a kitchenette, which we made good use of.

We knew in advance the restaurant was being refurnished, so was no issue to us, however Tim the partner of the hotel manger runs Tims's Sunset Beach Bar and Grill, which was recommended to us, I have to say Timms Beach Bar is the most fantastic place to visit, you will not find giant lobsters at a cheaper price anywhere! not a chance! ask at reception and they will organise a boat to take you there.

Its a 3 minute walk from the hotel to the sea front and 5 minutes to the centre of town, no traffic noise at all in the hotel. Once in town call in to Cuthberts Bar its next to the jetty, food and drinks are good, there is also lots of other small local food outlets, Mr Grill is also good if you just want a burger of jerk chicken. A trip to Paradise beach is around a 20 minute car ride away (we hired a car) the hotel also arranged a boat to take us to paradise Island, another never forget day out.

There is also a supermarket 2 mins walk away, our rooms had fridges, so we stocked up with Carib beer which we enjoyed sat outside the hotel reminiscing about our days out around Carriacou.

I was twice for a marine conservation project with Caribbean Reef Buddy and Deefer Diving in Carriacou. Once 4 and once 6 weeks and was both times at Johns in the hotel. I would go back to Johns anytime.
It was always a nice stay. Tim, Mischka and the Staff are very helpful and lovely. If you need help or something is needed, you will be helped immediately. The food was always tasty and varied and the food portions very big. The Unique Resort is a short walk from Deefer Divers, for me a absolut perfect location. I would love to come back here anytime.

All I can say is, the place is very nice and quiet. The food is a bit expensive but that's normal with Hotels. The rates are very good and I would encourage persons to stay at John's Unique especially if you're looking for quiet week/weekend.

The manager and her Staff are really helpful , Kind and very welcoming. Prices are attractive so don't ask for 5* standards, however the people are worthier.

My family and I have just returned home from beautiful Grenada. We spent the majority of our trip in Carriacou. I usually do not write reviews, but I felt very compelled to write this one; especially for families traveling with children. Let me first start by saying John's Unique is not a resort by any standards. We are a family of 4 so we had one of the larger rooms with 3 beds; 2 full and 1 twin size bed. It is a spacious one room studio with a kitchenette and a bathroom. It is very basic. There is a small TV in the room and a refrigerator. There is no microwave. There is no chest of drawers, but there is a closet in the bathroom (no hangers). There is no air conditioning, but there is a fan and a wonderful cross breeze when all windows and doors are open. However, there are no screens in the windows. This means there are all kinds of mosquitos in the room. I do agreed whole heartedly with another review that it did not matter if you put on mosquito repellant. We were bit so badly by mosquitos and probably some other type of bugs at night. It really made for restless nights. There were 2 towels in the bathroom when we arrived. When I asked for more towels and washcloths, we were told by the staff that travelers usually bring there own towels, but they would try to find us some. And, they do not provided soap, etc. like some other hotels may. There is hot water sometimes. If you mention it to the staff you get hot water and then the next time you may not. John's Unique is within walking distance to the beach (this is not the nicer part of the beach), restaurant's and shops. There is a nice grocery store behind hotel. We did not eat at the hotel's restaurant, so I can not speak about that. I did not have a lot of expectations before my stay at John's Unique. I knew it was going to be somewhat basic, but I did expect more than what we got. I probably should have given a less than average rating, but I gave this place an average rating because I do feel with some upgrades it could be a decent place to stay. And, the young lady that manages the places is very nice and was accommodating. I would not recommend this place to families in it's current state. If they add screens to the windows, I would recommend this place to those who are looking for a basic and inexpensive place to stay while you explore the island.

There was no hotwater, if you complained then they would put it on for the next day then off again. The sheets and towls were dirty and the sheets did not always cover the bed! The staff there were very un-proffesional and did not want to help with anything, including food! Sundays when the town is closed we asked what time they stop serving food, we were told 3pm, we arrived back at 2.30 to be welcomed by staff leaving! We had to go with out! We had witnessed them turning food orders down for group parties, why??? If you were lucky to be able to get service they were very slow, e.g, coffee 45 min. breakfast over an hour. They have a price list for drinks, however when ordering cocktails they say NO shakers! I got terrible bites in the night despite using ALL different repelents, creams, sprays and coils, i am convinsed that it was flles in the materess!
Carriacou, is a wonderfull resort and a rememberable place to visit. We will go again however we WILL NOT be staying at John Uniques.
