Beautiful resort, amazing snorkeling, and fantastic breakfast. Yes, everything is pretty far spaced out for room and rest of the resort. Be prepared to use the shuttles a lot, most of the time it wasn't an inconvenience. We stayed in 710, termed as a Luxury Villa and an upgrade from the Luxury Cottage we booked. The room had 2 outdoor spaces, plunge pool, a walk through closet, and a spacious bathroom. What was particularly nice is 710 is a 'standalone' as most of the cottages/villa are duplexes. The refrigerator is a nice amenity, especially with complementary soft drinks (coke, Diet Coke, sprite) and water. Khandi and Toni were great concierge, always ensured we had rides, reservations, and ice.
The pool is a great space to lounge, though you have to at least go underwater once (there's music playing). I recommend going to the beach early if you want a particular spot or section of the beach. We spent most of our days there and really appreciate Afra for daily beach set up. The water is crystal clear, clean, and amazing snorkeling - you'll see where all the tours are dropped off. Time it right and go out before tours show up (10a) or after their done (2p). Saw reef squid, eels, flounder, and every native fish, couldn't be happier about the resort snorkeling.
Food: Highly recommend including the buffet breakfast. The options were endless from a wide variety of pastries (croissants as good as France), juices, mimosas, fruit, cheeses, meats, yogurt, made to order waffles, pancakes, and eggs. We found lunch options lacking on the beach, but the restaurants had many good options most nights. Liquor is expensive, don't waste time ordering a double, it's the same price for a second drink. I'd recommend buying some local rum or having a bottle of wine in the room to enjoy on the patio or plunge pool. Though once you get to the resort, leaving will be a haul, plan accordingly if you can.
The bugs are real, we asked for extra citronella candles, as we like sitting outside in the evening and has extra bug spray. Ants can be an issue with food in the room.
Staff were amazing, nice, and genuinely helpful. Was offered to change in the spa area and wished we would've used the spa. It's a bit of a haul, but set in nature and has a really relaxing vibe. We stayed 4 nights/5 days and wished we would've spent our entire trip at this location. It's an upscale resort and caters to their guests. Highly recommend!

From the moment we arrived to be greeted by our personal butler, Sherman, at our cottage, we experienced outstanding service and quality.
The room was airy, large and bright with its own pool, and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. What you couldn’t find, or whatever you needed the butlers were on hand to deliver swiftly. Every room has total privacy, not over looked and individual. It’s worth noting that the resort is on a steep hill - and whilst we quite enjoyed the walks to breakfast and the beach appreciate not everyone would, the resort has a really solid transport offering which arrives in seconds to take you to wherever you want to go if the walk doesn’t appeal.
Breakfast is served with a perfect view of the gardens and you welcomed by really lovely staff, we saw the same folk throughout the trip. kaysha always had a smile first thing!
The beach is exceptional, nestled between the Pitons and the beach service was faultless. There is loads of opportunities to go and explore with boat trips / snorkelling / hiking which is all arranged.
The restaurants are well staffed, service is fabulous and food quality very good. Massive shout out to Sharma, and Ched who we had the pleasure of being served by most days. Cocktails on the beach was a particular highlight each day as we watched the sun set.
The management are responsive and very keen to listen to anything that could be improved, and Jonathan was especially helpful.
It’s worth noting that this resort is at a high price point, and I’d encourage anyone booking to view menus etc before booking, as the advice and quality don’t come cheap.
This resort is simply stunning; and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left we felt completely whisked away from normal routine. It caters well for families / couples and groups.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
When we travel we typically like to bounce around and explore a lot. The Viceroy was one of the few resort that I felt like I could stay at for a long period of time and enjoy it at the same level every day. First off the villas were amazing. Incredible views with a private pool. We just had the first-level upgrade and not the top-tier offerings. Bed was very comfortable and the bathrooms were very enjoyable. The way the villas are positioned it offers a complete level of privacy even though other villas are in proximity.
You get a private butler for your stay. They provide you with a phone that you can use to phone your butler and arrange anything that you need during your relaxation time at this property. The service was top notch. There were a couple of times that we needed a quick dry cleaning job in less than 24 hours and some help with arranging to exchange a vehicle and the service was always very crisp. As much as we like to explore you don't need to leave this property. You could spend all day at the pool and you can then spend a full day at the beach and rotate back and forth. Their are water sports they can arrange and some great snorkeling on property.
The outlets were all very enjoyable. They do smash burgers every so often on the beach at a small hut that you will have to inquire about as it is a great treat to have while you are there. There is a very nice gym on property to work out at in the mornings.
I would highly recommend getting something with the breakfast buffet added. Breakfast tended to be our largest meal that we had during our stay and the rest of the day we just relaxed with some activities mixed in. We have been to several island vacations and St. Lucia was very fun. While the island is starting to get some more attention this resort was the highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend this as a place to call home during your trip to St. Lucia. You will not be disappointed. I typically like to try a new destination every time we travel but I would absolutely go back to St. Lucia and this would be the place I would book again. We stayed at an AirBnB and another resort during our time on the island and I would just go straight back here for the entire stay. Thank you to the staff and management during our stay at the resort. Your team coordinated its services very well!

The resort is not private. Anyone can enter. People go through the resort to the resort beach shown on the website. Tourist trap sightseeing charters pick up from the hotel beach pier. We would advise against going or at least be aware it’s not private and not very safe to have general public entering the property. You also have to be shuttled around the property for which you have to call and wait. Once in the shuttle you are subject to picking up other hotel guests and/or dropping off at their room location. Walking around is almost impossible given the incline from the mountain. See photos.

Good Day F9220SQcesarg, Thank you for taking the time to share your review of your vacation at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort. The resort is situated in an UNESCO world heritage site, between the iconic Pitons of St. Lucia, with all beaches on the island being public and the resort boasting a vibrant, healthy marine reserve there are some non-resident visitors to the beach. I would like to assure you that there are always security personnel on duty to ensure that the safety and security of our guests is maintained and that the privacy of our resident guests is upheld. Thank you for your feedback relating to the shuttle service, with villas nestled in the lush mountain rainforest there are beautiful walks available around the resort. Should our guests wish to stay closer to the beachfront, there are a number of villas and residences that offer this accessibility and therefore do not require the shuttle service. Should our guests prefer a private shuttle service around the resort, this is feasible for an additional supplement. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, where we can serve you at our best. Warm regards, Jonathan Payne Resort Manager

Sugar Beach always exceeds expectations. Hands down, they provide the best service in the Caribbean. A personal Butler is assigned to you with a phone for immediate service. The villa is stocked with all your favorite beverages, including sodas, wine, and the delicious Piton beer. The shuttle service is so fast that you better be ready because they are there seconds after you call. The food has drastically improved over our last 4 visits. The breakfast buffet was included and was wonderful. They have crepes, waffles, eggs, and fruit. The buffet nights are expensive but well worth it. Beach service is a nice lunch option. Afra and William were very attentive and eager to serve. We ordered room service on several evenings and ate by the splash pool. The beach has a locally owned shop by the snorkeling area. Bernita, the owner, will shop and bring you anything you may have forgotten to pack. She has liquor, cigarettes, medicines, and trinkets. The beach has some nice touches, like sunscreen and hydration stations, towels, and plenty of lounge chairs. The beach area is not as exclusive as in years past. The chairs are placed much closer together, and there were people with day passes using the accommodations. The one-bedroom villa has two full baths, a living room area, and a large bedroom. The main bathroom has plenty of space, including a tub, shower, closet, and vanity. The hair dryer is subpar compared to other resorts of this caliber. The deck area is large, with incredible views. Michael and Candy were our Butlers and went above and beyond, making our visit extra special. Sugar Beach has plenty to do. They have snorkeling and Hobie Cats at no extra charge. They also have scuba diving and many excursions. We chose the Sunset Cruise. They picked us up on the beach dock, so there was no time wasted leaving the resort. We love Sugar Beach and will be back soon!

The service is impeccable. EVERYONE is extremely attentive and pleasant and truly embody what hospitality is all about. The scenery is incredible, we were looking for a relaxing island experience with enough activities beyond just sitting on the beach, and this location certainly kept us busy with scuba, sunset cruise, hiking, rum/chocolate tasting, snorkeling, massages, fine dining (+cocoa tours, volcano, mud baths which we did not have time to do). Four nights felt like a perfect amount of time for us, we had meals at every restaurant and were impressed at the variety (even the cocktail lists are different!). Our favorite was Cane Bar, which really surprised/impressed us with its Southeast Asian menu.
Tips: We enjoyed being close to the beach in the Sugar Mill cottages, which are slightly less private but much more convenient location. Burger at the adult beach pier was amazing. It is a rainforest climate so don't be surprised if it rains lightly very randomly, even in dry season. If doing the very Ewok-esque rainforest spa, tell them to fire up the temazcal (steam hut) in advance. Bring cash to leave for tips for butler/housekeeping/hiking guide - everyone you meet will strive to make your experience as enjoyable as possible and you'll probably want to give them some love!

We absolutely loved our stay at Sugar Beach, it was worth the hype. The service across the property was truly outstanding. The views and snorkeling were incredible. We stayed in a Sugar Mill room, which is the most basic room they offer and we loved it. We could walk to the restaurants, pool, and beach without ever having to take the shuttle that is offered for those staying in the villas high on the cliff. It had a large terrace private terrace in the front and back, with a plunge pool that was more like a hot tub on the back terrace.
Definitely attend the manager's happy hour hosted on the pier, they served complimentary beverages and apps, plus the pier is a great place to watch the sunset. Also, don't skip the snorkeling on the property! We snorkeled 3 different places around the island and our favorite was the spot at Sugar Beach.
Everything was rather expensive, but either I read so many reviews that I was prepared or they have taken feedback into account and reduced the prices some because the prices weren't as high as I expected. We did skip the buffet nights because the price seemed outrageous ($125 pp, not including drinks) and we made sure to pack all of the essentials, like sunscreen, so we didn't have to purchase anything from the hotel. We also purchased bottles of wine from a store to stock our room so we didn't have to purchase from the mini bar. Cocktails and beer at the beach/pool were reasonably priced.
The food at all of the restaurants was very good, but one more casual option like Bonte would be nice. The casual spots are closed on the nights they do the buffets so your only choice is to pay for the buffet or go to one of the higher end restaurants which are inside and not down on the beach. We probably would have eaten at Bonte every night if we could. It's right on the water, they had live music every night and the food was delicious. The breakfast buffet was included with our stay and it had everything you could possibly want.
Overall we loved our stay and if we go back to St Lucia we will be staying at Sugar Beach again.

We stayed for three nights in a luxury villa to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. The villa was high up in the hillside with a small pool, outside decking, sitting room and bedroom, all beautifully appointed and in the plantation style. Beds were exceptionally comfy and the views from the room were beautiful. A butler was on hand for any assistance we required.
The two beaches on site are sandy with plenty of loungers and we never had any trouble with availability. The snorkling from the main beach is outstanding and kayaks etc are readily supplied. The south beach is more peaceful without the incoming boats. The huge pool area is outstanding and very quiet.
We ate at three of the four restaurants and the food and service throughout was exceptional. Bronte and Jalousie are next to each other on the beach and Saltwood (fine dining) and the Cane Bar (trendy bar with good asian food) are in the main hotel building. We couldn't fault anything.
Many of the suites are a good distance from the hotel and beach and not easily walkable. Whilst shuttles were readily available we would probably opt for beach front accommodation in future. Despite not being school holidays there were quite a few babies and children at the resort which was not a problem at all but we were surprised that there wasn't one "adults only" restaurant. Children are definitely well catered for with good facilities and excellent kids club. We didn't get to the spa but ventured in to explore and it looked heavenly.
We aim to return again and stay another couple of nights to take full advantage of everything offered. Sugar beach is definitely a luxurious and romantic destination and I would highly recommend a visit.

As I sit here in room 404… I so badly want to give this resort the 5 stars it wants, but unfortunately I can not.
While this may be a bit jaded, the hotel could pride itself more on accommodating all guests and not just those “honeymooners” or guests who appear to have more “money.”
We are staying 5 nights and when we arrived we found it strange our butler(s) assigned to us did not greet us upon arrival. Instead another individual greeted us, showed us around our suite and took our passports only to mention our butler would be back soon with them. We waited 30+minutes and then “our butler” arrived with them back. He (Gary) met with us all of 5 min. We never saw or hear from Gary again and we are on day 3.5.
Our second full day they failed to do “turn down”service at night like promised. I should have prefaced this bbt saying we aren’t even those people who need/like turndown… however because we actually needed clean towels/cups we thought they would come… they did not.
The next morning( the day I’m writing this review), also my birthday…. A LOT of “special” things were planned by my spouse. Room service breakfast was 15 min late… only to have them charge for a bottle of Prosecco they said was “on the house” for the birthday… then they didn’t bring any glasses for the Prosecco or the coffee or tea… remember they did not conduct turn down the night before so we had no clean glasses for my birthday celebration. We were told by room service to clean our glasses….
Let talk about the private beach dinner planned. Everything was going great until they lit the bonfire. At first it was fine, we were almost finished with dinner and wine. The embers were pretty crazy being windy and all but quickly calmed down. We literally had 2.5 glasses of wine left when they re-lit the bonfire causing a rush of embers to come shooting our way. We were the closest the the bonfire so it was sort of scary and warm. My spouse immediately said let’s go… I turned my head and the embers were so close due to the crazy wind. It cause the wind to knock of the wine and spill All over my spouse ruining his shirt and pants. The staff was slow to help or offer any type of apologies. You would think for a $700+ dinner they would be quick to react. They offered $200 off our bill which I guess seems fine… but it’s the fact that the entire experience has been difficult. When the manager finally came to our room to “apologize” it felt fake and as if he didn’t care. He had talked to staff first and was only speaking to us to “document” In his words.
I feel let down and unappreciated by this resort.
It’s beautiful and has some amazing staff (Derby was great)! But it just fell short for us.

Exceptional site: in the heart of the two peaks, in rich, perfectly maintained vegetation. Depending on the villa, the view of the sea is more or less beautiful because it is unobstructed. Our villa, number 301, is ideally located (intimate with a view of the Caribbean Sea), comfortable, typically Creole interior where white dominates, huge dressing room, bathroom including shower for 4 people (amazing)… Mainly American clientele whose stays vary from 4 to 7 nights. Very numerous staff, generally helpful and inclined to satisfy our desires. Wandering around the resort is almost impossible due to the very steep drop between the villas located at the top of the property and the beach. It is therefore thanks to a mobile phone given on arrival that you can contact your butler to go to breakfast, the swimming pool, the fitness center, etc. The best food offered is at the breakfast buffet ($50/pers.): very good quality pastries, decent variety of savory and sweet products. General catering (except at the Cane Bar) very average, even passable at totally prohibitive prices (much higher than those of the St Regis in the Maldives or the Mandarin Oriental New York where we stayed)... Not knowing how to prepare fish in St Lucia is an aberration?!! Eating poorly for $300 hurts your stomach!!!

We stayed in Luxury Villa 303, which offered a great view of the Petite Piton, a partially obstructed view of the ocean through trees and over nearby rooftops, and some visibility into neighboring pool patios. Overall, it was a good view, and if I wasn’t so focused on getting the most unobstructed view possible, my initial impression would have been much stronger.
To be honest, the view wasn’t quite as dramatic as the ones featured on the hotel’s website, so I was initially a little disappointed. However, my wife, who hadn’t seen the website beforehand, was completely wowed. If you’re not obsessing over having the absolute best view, I think you’d find it very impressive. Ultimately, we spent very little time outside while at our room so the view was a nice to have but not a necessity. The view from the beaches can’t be beat.

We stayed in 400. It’s a deluxe cottage. Outdoor shower. Very private in the pool. We were only seen if we were standing on parts of the pool deck. Loved the outdoor shower, it connected to the inside bathroom.
it's really only for dinner! Everyone wears what they want during the day, but at night you just need to be in actual clothes. I saw it to be pretty flexible. Everyone looked nice, and some people were fancier dressed than others.
I’m sorry for the late response. You can wear your casual wear at this resort without worry. I wouldn’t suggest banana hammock or string bikinis in the restaurants at dinner but for the price you have paid to travel and stay here than anything respectful is cool.
We stayed in room 610, a Superior luxury villa. 615 was close to our room and, I believe, was a Deluxe cottage. The patio looked identical to the pictures on the website of the Deluxe cottage.
