We went in June 2023 and I still dream about this hotel. What an amazing time we had! We only came for the day but were greeted by friendly staff and a BEAUTIFUL hotel room, whose art depicted various themes. Each room named after a famous reggae artist; a nice touch. The pool was small but lovely and had a lovely view of the Caribbean. Brunch wasn't bad... overall a FANTASTIC experience that I'd love to have again!

We were lucky enough to be able to spend 5 nights at this wonderful hotel recently and wish we could have stayed longer. From the moment we arrived the Geejam team really looked after us, getting our luggage taken to the room whilst we were sat down and given a welcome cocktail. They will message you via Whatsapp before you arrive and you can communicate whatever you need easily including breakfast/drinks orders and excursions.
We were then taken to our room, which was one of only 12 on the property (there are also 3 cabins and 3 villas, one of which used to belong to Audrey Hepburn!), so it really does feel relaxed and intimate. As we entered the room there is a large bathroom with massive shower and a bathtub that has views out to the balcony and beyond, and then steps down into the bedroom area which as you descend, reveals the view through the large windows that lead to the balcony, of the lush vegetation and the sea beyond. It really is a piece of theatre!
The hotel is owned by a couple of record producers and has its own recording studio which has been a magnet for many household names when they have wanted to record someplace just a little bit special. One of the co-owners, Steve Beaver, stopped by for a chat with us one afternoon to make sure everything was ok and the next evening invited a few of us to tour the studio which was an unexpected treat. Wherever you are on the property, the views are just stunning, from the bar/restaurant with outdoor pool table, to the infinity pool that provides a welcome respite from the Jamaican sunshine.
The hotel has it's own beach which sits at the bottom of quite a lot of stairs (we had read about this so were aware and I believe they are happy to drive you down), the team are happy to bring drinks to you at the beach, just make sure you don't forget anything before you head down there! The beach area is kept in pristine condition and has a collection of kayaks and paddle boards available for use (if you smile nicely at Arthur who looks after the beach, he will take you out on the kayaks and give you a tour of where the turtles/springs/movie filming locations are!). If you want to explore other beaches, there are plenty around. Frenchman's cove is an easily walkable (about 15 mins), and is absolutely stunning. Winnifred beach is a little further, but is also lovely.
We were keen to explore the area and we chose to do a rafting excursion organised through the hotel. They really made us feel like rockstars as everything was organised for us; private taxi, guides, towels, the moist delicious lunchstop and coolbox full of drinks. I thoroughly recommend this excursion! Other than breakfast, we only ate a couple of times at the property as we were busy exploring Portland, but the food was delicious and with us in good time (i had seen a couple of reviews that mentioned service was a little slow, but this wasn't our experience so I don't know if they've worked on this, or some others were just a little unlucky).
We absolutely loved our time at Geejam and the personal touch we received really made our holiday, so thank you to Steve and the team. We hope to be back soon!

An absolutely stunning holiday, the best holiday I have ever had. The resort itself is positioned in a hillside overlooking the sea, with panoramic views from every aspect whether your dining or relaxing on your patio. The rooms ooze quality with lovely cotton linen sheets, huge plump pillows and deep mattresses. Fall asleep at night to the sound of the sea gently washing at the shore. The food is in my opinion Michelin star standard, freshly prepared decent size portions and beautiful prepared by local talented chefs. The hotel is a wonderful place to unwind and decompress from every day life at home, the staff are very attentive and so wonderful polite and kind. A magical experience and one I am already planning again for my return next year.

This amazing hotel is a high end 12 room hotel with cabins and villas catering to a select elite crowd at affordable prices. This location nestled in the tropical rainforest, gives access to lots of historical landmarks such as blue lagoon, Frenchman’s cove and Boston jerk. Each room has decorated pictures of artistes and life in Jamaica. The rooms were clean and comfortable but make sure you’re fit and able to climb steps to get to your rooms. The restaurant food was also delicious. The best thing was the genuine, helpful staff who satisfied our every desire. Thumbs up to Rose! Omg she’s the best!! Also kudos to co owner Steve Beaver who was always around to chat and make you feel comfortable and happy to take us on a tour of the famous recording studios.

Having read the excellent reviews about Geejam and heard much about its legendary appeal, we finally made it there, and were delighted that it fully lived up to expectations. Front of house and co-owner, the perma behatted Steve Beaver, the king of cool, sets the tone with his easy charm with the guests and attention to detail. Wonderful setting, stylish and comfortable rooms, an all round thoroughly laid back and chilled experience. Strongly recommended.

Let me start by saying what a beautiful place to take a moment and catch your breath. Geejam really is a little paradise.
The good stuff:
The whole place is spread out across beautiful, lush greenery with spectacular views of the sea. You see every shade of blue in that mesmerising water 💙
The staff are friendly and helpful. They have a Whatsapp service for anything guests may need, which was appreciated as it just meant we had more privacy and didn't need to go looking for someone when we needed something. Nothing was a problem for staff.
There is parking available if you choose to drive, a drink offered at check in along with a whistleblow tour of some of Geejam. Your luggage is taken care of (thankfully as there were a lot of stone steps!).
There's a beautiful infinity pool by the Bushbar with lovely views. The vegan food menu was so good and to be fair they have a great selection of dishes on all their menus. The general vibe of Geejam was 'chill' and that was exactly what we needed.
Improvements:
The check in was speedy and in hindsight it would've been good to have a full tour or to be informed of all that Geejam has to offer guests.
We stayed in the Drum&Bass cabin, which was a real delight. After we checked in there were a few things that we had to keep asking for because it wasn't provided to begin with, such as coffee for the coffee machine, creamer etc and we felt like we may be burdening the staff, however, the staff in no way left us feeling that way.
This cabin has a joint living/sleeping space, huge bathroom with big windows where you can see the turquoise waters as well as a private terrace with lounge seating, jacuzzi and table and chairs. It is supposed to be private with it's own set of stairs and external doorway, however staff sometimes turned up out of the blue which was a little awkward. It wasn't till half way through our stay that someone turned up to fix a doorbell, which should've then been there alll along and made more sense! We had our sense of privacy after that. Another thing to mention that we weren't aware of, is that there is a cabin just above which overlooks the terrace for the Drum&Bass, however, we didn't see anyone staying in it during our stay, so we did get our privavy in the end.
There is a main road when looking down at the view of the sea from the cabin, which you can't see but can hear the traffic and people. Nothing can be done about that though and after a couple of days, didn't really bother us at all.
The stone stairway to the beach is looong, so be prepared for the walk back up. We decided not to use the Geejam beach as it wasn't really what we were looking for but they do have beaches nearby to die for. Frenchman's Cove for instance, is only a 5 min drive away. Winnifred beach is bigger with lots more to do, and if you prefer a more buzzy beach with the locals, there's Boston beach. You're spoilt for choice.
Overall, we had a great time at Geejam. It was expensive, but with a little more attention to detail, it really would be worth every penny. I would happily come back again, Geejam left me feeling great about Porti.
Thank you to all the staff for all your help and wonderful smiles.

Response from Steve Beaver, Owner at Geejam
Responded 31 Jan 2024
Hi Mandy, Many thanks for your kind words. I'd like to address a few of the points you made. Firstly, I'm so happy that you found our little piece of paradise to be spectacular and yes, the views do seem to be something that no-one ever seems to get tired of :) I'm equally happy that you found our staff to be ready, willing and able to ensure that you were well looked after, without being intrusive. Guest privacy is key as far as we're concerned, so my sincerest apologies if you were disturbed during the first part of your stay with us. There are steps up & down to the beach, but for those who find them a challenge, we're always happy to drop them down there, or bring them back up. While the beaches that you mention are all spectacular, you can enjoy our complimentary kayaks and paddle boards at our own beach. Furthermore, Arthur is always happy to take our guests out in a kayak, to see our family of turtles that reside in our Cove. He's now known as 'the turtle whisperer', as they respond to him :) We are constantly improving and updating - next up is a restaurant on the beach, where you'll be able to dine at the water's edge. Looking forward to having you back. 1love Steve

I absolutely loved the hotel. simple welcoming check-in and great bell service. The room was gorgeous with a fabulous walk-in shower and bath. Most importantly, the dining was exquisite and we didn't have to leave the lush grounds in search of food. While there was a large television in the room, the view of the sea, complimentary high-mountain coffee, and drinks from our balcony meant we did not turn it on once.
The excellent bar adjacent to the swimming pool with friendly, engaging staff was greatly welcome as I sat and wrote on my laptop.
We enjoyed the Geejam beach and kayaking to see the turtles was priceless.

I’ve been coming to Port Antonio for 30 years. It’s far and away the most beautiful part of Jamaica, sitting on the edge of a rainforest. It’s very common to rent a villa in the lush hills of San San there. A villa is a perfect set up for a family. This year myself and my family stayed at Coco San, easily, the most modern and luxurious villa in the area. One of the great advantages at Coco San is that you have the use of all the amenities of the GeeJam hotel lower down on the mountain…the restaurant, the concierge service and so on.
CocoSan is near the top of a mountain and the views of the jungle and the Caribbean below on a nice day are jaw dropping, tropical fantasy stuff. GeeJam was built by Jon Baker, who with Steve Beaver, built GeeJam, easily the best hotel in the area.. It is like a treehouse of sorts, a gem hidden away in the jungle and one of the most unique hotels in Jamaica.
CocoSan is a spacious 7 bedroom villa, all with en suite bathrooms. There’s a beautiful pool, a detached gym, and ample outside terrace and deck space. The living room and other rooms have satellite television, large screens, and a state of the art sound system.
CocoSan been rented by luminaries such as Daniel Craig, who was there for an extended stay when making the most recent James Bond film. Keith Richards stayed there, too, while recording in the studio at the hotel below. Mick Jagger used another villa up the hill called Panorama that was also restored by Jon Baker. GeeJam has a a long history of musicians recording there. One look around and you can see why. It’s absolutely idyllic and inspiring.
The staff couldn’t be friendlier or more helpful. The food is delicious and the villa borrows from some of the best chefs on the island, who work at the hotel restaurant, Bush Bar. The staff are happy to make arrangements for you for rafting trips down the Rio Grande River and other destinations. And happy to arrange a rent a car if you desire. Anything you want.
GeeJam has its own beach, which was part of the set for the James Bond film. And right below is Frenchman’s Cove, regularly rated as one of the best, most picturesque beaches in the world. My kids grew up on that beach and will always return. A freshwater river runs into it creating the most beautifully colored water.
I could not recommend the CocoSan Villa more highly. If you’re looking for some zen or a luxurious family getaway and want to be surrounded by absolute beauty and waited on hand and foot, you are in for an unforgettable time . When you speak to GEEJAM, ask about CocoSan. It just might be available.

I loved everything about my stay at Geejam. It’s a true hidden gem. The property is a boutique hotel tucked away in the serene, lush Portland hills with a gorgeous view of the sea and coastline. I felt at peace and at one with nature.
The room we stayed in was modern, spacious, immaculate, with lots of natural light and high ceilings, and a private balcony that opened into a beautiful forest-like hillside with the Caribbean sea as a backdrop in the distance. There are also lovely beaches nearby, like Frenchmen and San San. I highly recommend staying at this hotel. I instantly felt rejuvenated following my stay and will definitely return. Thanks also to the friendly hotel co-owner Steve, who introduced himself to my friends and me, who were there to celebrate a birthday, and made us feel especially welcome!

I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit this one of a kind paradise resort. Steve was so gracious to host a tour, which allowed us to see most of the resort. Now, the drive from Port Antonio, in October, was a bit formidable due to heavy road construction, but it is to be short lived. We arrived in this quiet, serene location amongst the lush jungle flora, to find the resort perched on a scenic palisade overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The lobby, open air and quite welcoming, is adjacent to a quaint open air bar, with a billiard table and infinity pool. The tiki drinks on the menu were well made and powerful.
The hillside resort has many secluded bungalows, each with its own character. Well manicured landscape along the terraces include Akee, Coffee, and Avocado trees. The appointments in the rooms are complete, with ample supply of lush bedding, modern bath, digital tv, and unique artwork, along with a balcony overlooking the treetops, the ocean in the distance.
We visited a fantastic full house with full pool, garage, detached gym and vast living area, with multiple bedrooms. The atmosphere is both peaceful and extremely private.
As the resort is certainly connected with a history of world class modern music production, the house we toured had a full listening room, a piano, and many bedrooms which each contained not only a television, but a full screen projection screen such that one could spend the day in bed watching cinema.
At the top of the resort, a full accommodation with a record recording studio is a perfect location for song writing and recording. Many leading recording artists are visiting guests here.
At the base of the resort, a beautiful small beach exists, near dragon beach and Frenchman’s cove. This idilic spot is the backdrop from many popular blockbuster movies you have likely seen. But so far from the business of Kingston, you’ll have all the privacy in the world. Ian Fleming Intl airport is now offering Miami flights, which will be the fastest connection to reach this spot from anywhere in the world. Please consider a visit to this great location!
