The Caves sits along the limestone cliffs of the West End of Negril, right next to the famous Negril Lighthouse in Jamaica. Although situated only a few miles away from the bustling town center, this private enclave is a world apart. Eleven handcrafted wood and stone thatched-roof cottages, plus a 4-bedroom fully self-contained luxury villa, are interwoven between ten acres of lush vegetation and naturally formed volcanic caves. Quaint stone pathways wind through the limestone cliffs dotted with palm, sea grape and dogwood trees overlooking the Caribbean Sea. An arrangement of coral stairs and walkways lead to sundecks with uninterrupted views of the sea and sky, and grottos with turquoise water pools and fossilized marine life. A tropical reef system comes right up to the edge of the cliff, perfect for snorkeling. Guests can climb down ladders into the sea or take a leap from several “jump points,” the highest of which is 30 feet! An intimate, private and unique resort, The Caves is perfect for romance and relaxation. The Caves generally does not accept children under 16 years old. Exceptions must be cleared with the hotel management.

What can I say to convince you to go here? It was a magical stay and I highly recommend it. The staff are wonderful! I wish I could remember all the names of those that made our visit so special (Melissa, Earl, Leon, Brad, Randy, O’Bryan, etc.). We were celebrating birthdays and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. The rooms were spacious, cleaned really well, and comfortable. The meals were delicious and the grounds gorgeous. Get ready for the most amazing sunsets and views. Some things to know: -make sure you take sunscreen. I had a carry on and planned to buy there, but there was none in the small gift shop and a local retail shop had some for $20 (!). -the rooms are not airtight and you may need mosquito repellant (they provided it). The mosquitos weren’t that bad, but I did get a few bites – everything is outdoors. -there is no beach, you jump off the side of cliffs in designated areas, or go down ladders and can float in the ocean – that was really nice with the floaties they had on hand. (you come out of the ocean by climbing up the ladders on the side of the cliffs) -Some in our group did snorkeling and really enjoyed it (they even had snorkeling equipment they loaned out) -The all-inclusive was really nice. We had a continuous supply of drinks and food. I missed lunch one day (fell asleep) – no problem, mon! They whipped up a snack for me later in the afternoon. -Take some cash for tips. You will want to reward the staff for all their hard work. -One evening they hired a reggae band during dinner… take cash to tip them also. They were really good - delightful, funny, and made for a fun night. -The resort is small and intimate, which includes the number of guests. It was never crowded. -We stayed in "free love", which is an upper room with full ocean view. However, to see the ocean, you had to open the shutters which let out cool air (and mosquitos in – but there are mosquito nets over the beds). We were not in the rooms much anyway. On our next visit, I will probably request a room with a balcony, or not bother with paying for a full view. -You need to experience dinner in the caves - it was enchanting and one of the most memorable dinners we've had. -If you book the hot tub room, get it at sunset, especially if the weather is nice. We got lucky and had an amazing sunset

This was our fifth time to The Caves, and it was, as always, a sun-filled, relaxing, vacation in paradise. Karen, the General Manager, Melissa, and the other ladies in the office greeted us as old friends, and ensured we had everything we needed. Glen, Zoom, Randy, Jimoy, Earle, Owen, and all the other staff took such good care of us. Wonderful drinks, food, top-notch housekeeping, and the beautiful grounds keep us coming back again and again. Counting the days until our next visit...

My husband and I visited The Caves for three nights and we already wish we were back there. Our experience was incredible. From the location itself, to our quaint room, to the incredible meals, and the friendly staff, every detail of our stay was perfect. We were one of only two couples at the resort due to the pandemic, so we enjoyed lots of peaceful moments but even at full capacity there are so many private little nooks to sunbathe and dining areas set apart from other tables that a serene experience would still be guaranteed! We booked a private dinner in the cave for one of our nights and was just magical! Every meal we had was fresh and delicious! We had two or more choices for main dishes at each meal, plus starters of fresh fruit (breakfast), and soup (ALL were so delicious) and salad at lunch and dinner. Can't say enough about the dining! We stayed in the Blue Hole room. What a treat! I'd wake up at sunrise and sit in the enclosed veranda just listening to the water and dozing in the comfortable chair. You must go snorkeling!! We saw all kinds of beautiful fish along the reefs attached to the cliffs. Lifeguard was very helpful in getting us flippers and offering to take us kayaking (which we were too relaxed to do!). Make sure to explore the property. So many beautiful areas. And as far as COVID, there were hand sanitizing stations everywhere and the staff was always masked. We can't wait to return!!

I have neglected to write my review of our October 2020 stay until now. We were some of the first to arrive since the resort reopened after closing in March. I think this was our 6th or 7th visit to The Caves, our first being around 2001. That's a long time. We've stay in several of the cottages there and they are all wonderful but we stayed in Sundancer this time as we wanted lots of space to ourselves and our travel budget for 2020 was untapped. I could go on about the rooms, which are just as artfully beautiful and unique as 20 years ago even if starting to show a little age (aren't we all) or the food (great) or, best of all, the staff (they are just wonderful, and so nice to see familiar faces) but there is plenty of that detail in other reviews and I'd be happy to answer questions along those lines. Instead, I will relate a story from our trip that reveals, at least to me, the magic here. We arrived in a heavy downpour, just a couple days after a hurricane had passed to the South which was now heading toward the Yucatan, more than 500 miles away. Since this was just within the first week of reopening, we were the first guests to check into Sundancer in a long time and there was only one other couple there (also repeat guests). We were a party of 4 so now there are 6 guests. I worried that I had perhaps oversold the experience to the couple that traveled with us as the older a great memory gets, sometimes it gets inflated in our minds. I had not, the first impression for our friends was great, and they've been to Jamaica many times, just not here. So on that next day we were discussing how "chill" the place is and how, unlike being in a big US hotel where you often find lots of uptight guests complaining about this or that, there was none of that here. Well about the time we sat down for lunch, the rains came back, really hard this time, and two older couples (even older than me) from northern New Jersey arrived for their check-in tour. The guys were quiet but one of the wives was NOT pleased. Their arrival could not have been timed worse and they were probably expecting some completely different. There was some serious complaining and we looked at each other and thought "we spoke too soon". To make a long story short, by 5pm the next day, these two couples had completely chilled. One of the wives told me she was ready to move upon checking it, and at that point we'd have helped them with their luggage, but within 24 hours The Caves had worked its magic, they were happy and had become a pleasure to talk with and be around. I've never seen a place accomplish so much to turn around some guests attitude in such a short time. We talk about that to this day. The Caves is still a magical place, after so many years, so many storms (you should see my video of the waves hitting the cliffs on our first day, unbelievable) and finally, this industry crushing pandemic, and it was worth all of the stress in the fall of 2020, during this crisis and between hurricanes, to finally return. I feel immensely fortunate, it was the high point of my year (though I realize that is perhaps a low bar). We will return again and as I promised Elvis, who remembered me from our visits so many years ago, we will not let that many years pass again. We are thinking 2021 looks good! I'm ready to book again now.

My wife and I have been to the Caves twice in the last two years. Perfect place for a couples get away. Celebrated our 25th anniversary their Dinner in The Cave was amazing, couples massage is a must. Add inclusive and the food was 5 star. Heading back this winter. Not inexpensive but worth every penny
