Let me start by acknowledging 5 outstanding Sandals Ochi staffers who need to be properly recognized and praised are:

Britney, Brittainy, Romario (entertainment). Jodi Ann (housekeeping). Llamoy Gillespie aka G. Q. (Sales)

Lengthy please bear with me. 👇🏼

My Sandals Ochi Review. 1/30/23- 2/6/23.

Our first time at Sandals Ocho Rios (Ochi).

Flight from NYC to Montego Bay
Arrived at airport 12:45 on Monday 1/30/23. Airport was not too busy in the arrivals - We did have Club Mobay - as soon as we went down the ramp we were met with a Club Mobay Rep Christopher who was holding a sign with our names. He took our passports as we proceeded to the immigration area.

Went through that process very quickly and then escorted to club Mobay Lounge for refreshments- Note. Sandals also has a lounge next door also you can use while waiting to have your luggage loaded onto Bus.
** Just a quick note: the club Mobay lounge departing Montego Bay much better, more food beverages. (More on that later.
Your reservations are checked and they put colored stickers on your luggage I think purple stickers for Beach Club and Green for Hillside

Arrived at Sandals minor confusion on their part. My sticker didn’t match the accommodations. We were to be on the beach side but wound up on the hillside (worked out better for us) - went to guest services to check in and get brief orientation and a welcome drink.
FYI - They do ask you to put a $400 hold on your credit card. They tried several times to
enter my card AMEX but wouldn’t take. They told me to
Call the bank. With AMEX you don’t need to notify them before international travel but I did and was all good to go. This issue went on for 2 days. A subsequent check with AMEX revealed the glitch was on Sandals system - be aware some credit card companies want you to notify them before you travel abroad. They also tell you a time to meet with a Sandals rep to do an orientation the next day. Ooops we missed bc we were tired and wanted sun.
As far as rooms, I wound up with a better than expect room no butler - in a suite/villa. Building #30 Hillside. Be aware it’s very hilly and even the best in shape get tired going up that steep hill. Room was very nice with patio and shared small pool and a cat I named Bob Marley -
Remember you’re in a warmer climate and you may see little tiny ants in your tub - no big deal to meal.
A lot of staff driving around in golf carts and ginty’s - you can ask them for a ride and they will oblige you.
Here’s the part some will scream about. TIPS…. Yes, they are not supposed to look for tips or even accept them. You do whatever you feel, I’m not here
to judge- Don’t try to tip them in front of the front desk area. They are being watched.
Plenty of activities and shows, just look for TV screens for daily activities-

An issue at the hillside pool. People get up early to grab towels and put them on their chairs to save seats. If it’s your first time and you want to do that take 2 fresh towels per chair late in the afternoon from the towel holders scattered about pool area - suggest you also use towel clips for chair.
Witnessed incident where person got up early saved 2 chairs at beach side then walked to bathroom (beach side) some clown and his nasty wife came along wanted the same chairs/spot and moved these peoples personal articles left there. When they were questioned about it, they said their Butler saved these chairs for him. NOPE according to supposed Ochi Rules, butlers cannot save chairs. (Same people caused a minor spectacle the following day on the Hop- (drunk)

Make your restaurant reservations as soon as you check in. The ones we ate at the food and service was good. Kimonos however, in my opinion didn’t seem to have large portions -
All of the staff we encountered were very polite and helpful especially Britney and Brittainy at the great pool.

The Rabbit Hole speak easy was nice. Advice, it’s very cold in there be prepared. Get the daily password from any staff member. They re use some of the passwords (Gumshoe - Bootleg ) you will get in anyway

Nice shows at the amphitheater on beach side. Between hill and beach sides there are alot of stairs and hills - those with ambulation issues be advised.

The staffers do appreciate positive reviews on trip advisor and they receive gifts -
I was informed by one of the staff performers that if they get a bad Trip Advisor review, they get in trouble. (These guys and gals work really hard and don’t get paid too well)

New friends were made here
A lot of the other guests were friendly- my opinion about 99.5%. Some people won’t be happy no matter what.

Now… housekeeping. My room service housekeeper was Jodi-Ann. A real sweetheart. Would leave nice daily notes on a note pad - and we would respond in kind. She made a lot of those towel animals and kept the room clean and well stocked.

Some of the rooms are out dated and I believe renovations will be made soon. (We only went to room sleep and wash up) so the appearance didn’t bother us.

On departure day, you need to be at the airport 3 hours before and it’s a 1 1/2 hour ride to Montego Bay airport. (Don’t know about Kingston) You will probably get a notice slipped under your door the night before departure- day of departure about 1 hour before the bus takes you to airport you can have your luggage waiting outside your door so they can pick it up and bring it to the lobby area.

Club Mobay departure area Montego Bay breezed through security. Worth it for us since the airport at noon time was a little chaotic and there was a taxi strike going on. This club Mobay has a larger area more food beverages and waitress service

I may have missed a few points and will add anything else if I think of it.

Overall, my first visit to Sandals left us very happy. The Jamaican people are very hospitable which made it most enjoyable -

As a re-cap. My favorite staffers were Britney - Brittainy - Jodi Ann - Romario and llamoy Gillespie aka G. Q.

This was our second time back to this Sandals resort, this time with our daughter. As expected, the trip was successful and beautiful with no big issues. Just a few items to share:

Housekeeping communication is not consistent, so if you ask a housekeeper to clean your room each day at a certain time, they do not appear to communicate that to people working on different days, so you will need to repeat yourself. The water in the shower went from scalding to ice cold quickly but appeared to be fixed by the end of our trip. LOTS of honey bee's at the outside bars including the swim up bar. Some people do get bit. Apparently taking vitamin B12 will keep them at a distance (I was told this second hand). When we booked an excursion to go on the bobsleds through the jungle, we did not realize that $80 dollars each let us go on them only one time. We paid an extra 8 dollars each to go down a second time. Also be prepared to tip the transport folks for excursions If you are staying in the Great House, be sure to get a room far enough away from the piano bar that you do not hear everyone partying until 3am at night. This can be very loud if you get the room directly above the piano. If you book a massage at the Spa, just note that a service fee will be added onto your bill that you cannot use promotion points to pay. This is somewhere between 13.5 and 15% of the total bill. Many people do not seem to be aware of this fee unless they are regular returning guests. Other than these small things, the trip was amazing and truly a five star experience. I would go back a third time to this resort just because of the size and the excellent price. i was told by staff that the price is lower than other Sandals resorts because the Butler side of the resort has not yet been renovated and there are so many rooms, the resort is difficult to fill. We stayed at the butler village part of the resort two years ago. We would not recommend it due to the very outdated rooms and strong oder of urine in the building entrance. The semi-private swimming pools are stained and dated as well. If you have a butler or butlers, you are expected to tip them 20 dollars per day at the end of the trip (fyi).

This place has something like 15 places to get food and drinks so we weren’t short of variety

The great house buffet was great. The great house and pool is generally lovely. It’s lively with games and music which I liked. If you’re looking for quiet seclusion it’s a little bus ride down to the beach side of the resort

We had a butler service and to be honest it was so stressful! They were irritated with us a few times because they’d anticipated where we would be and brought snacks and drinks but then couldn’t reach us on the butler phone. (Lots of missed calls)
I think we are so beholden to our phones at home that on holidays I don’t even want to see a phone

The food quality here is good. Especially the French restaurant. There’s also a little beach bar which serves buffalo drumsticks which I was addicted to all week

Everything here was open and in good condition. The beach is quite small, so if you like a Long Beach this isn’t the resort for you

It’s a 1hr 30 shuttle from the airport which I probably wouldn’t want to do again, but it’s an interesting drive. You’re listening to bob Marley the whole way

My husband and I loved playing games here. The shuffleboard, table tennis and basketball were so much fun.

I think some people expect more luxury for 5*, but aside from our room being a little sparsely decorated I was really happy with sandals. The grounds are utterly immaculate and all of the restaurants are cleaned and well proportioned.

It’s not quite as special as it looks in photos as all the rooms are photographed with beautiful flower displays which they don’t have in reality.

My advice for best value here is to pay for club level so you can have free room service, but don’t go for butler level unless you really want to be sharing your holiday with 2 other people

Oh and you need to tip the butlers only. Nobody else. We had 2 and tipped them $110 each I think

Hope this is useful!

All three hot tub’s in our area we’re at some level of disrepair

Sunset cruise that was with package, was canceled then on, then canceled! We did not know until day of If it was going or not.
Was told it’s complementary, to them that means they don’t have to do it for us! I argued that complementary does not mean free! Anyway it did go and it was fun.

The whole airport Sandals experience in Jamaica was absolutely chaos and very uncomfortable. We drove around the airport on departure to pick up Friends of the driver. Added almost an hour to our drive. Stepped off our plane got through security went over to the sandals reception desk where we were hearded directly on the bus no time to stop for even a bathroom break! no time!no time! we got to go man!

Upon check-in the Concierge was rude and inconsiderate. I asked for our room key and that we would be back in 10 minutes to fill out their forms, I explained that we have been travelling for almost 14 hours without any break and need 10 minutes in the bathroom to wash our face and brush our teeth. They would not do this for us they delayed us at least another hour before they even gave us a room key. we returned A short time after to book a few things and were told , we cannot book your restaurants here. Really what is the concierge for?

Magnetic strip on my credit card Wouldn’t work so we eventually had to settle for putting Another credit card on file which was not what I had wanted... they had no capabilities to key in the credit card manually. made a few purchases did a few things went to check out credit card issue still remains so it was up to Other card pay, review our bill and there’s some weird laundry charge on it please takeoff the laundry charge nope it was charged to your room nope we did not use the laundry!
We were told multiple times that there is no tipping at Sandals.. so I would go to order a drink and found the bartenders fabulous on the first one but like I was a pain in the ass on the second... literally ignored. We then realized that people were secretly tipping. Don’t say a hotel is no tipping if the only way to get service is by tipping.

Hello and thank you for your review of Sandals Ochi. We are sorry to learn of any dissatisfaction during your recent stay with us. At Sandals, we recognize that excellence in service is pivotal to our success and communicates this ideal to all our employees. We went for our honeymoon at the end of April through to May. I'll start with the pros (loads of them): The weather was gorgeous, the food portions though seemingly small at first, were the perfect amount, our butlers (Kayann and Fernando) were so nice and thoughtful leaving us bubble baths and desserts to come back to after our long days, the pool was super relaxing and fun with the music and swim up bar and pool volleyball, the excursions were super easy to book on the resort and a lot of fun to do, the cleanliness was fantastic!! We saw our housekeepers clean the room and they were very detailed, there were sanitizing stations everywhere and they made sure you sanitized getting onto the hop bus every time. The speakeasy was super fun, the DJ in there had us singing and dancing and just having a great time. There's many more pros, but let me mention just a couple things that could have been a bit better: the timely-ness of our butlers could have been a little better when we were wanting a drink on the beach or wherever we were at. Sometimes we were waiting well over 30 minutes for them so it would have been quicker to just get one ourselves at that point. The beach was a lot more rocky then I thought it would be. I definitely would recommend water shoes when entering the ocean on the far left side of the resort at least because those rocks hurt lol. I also wish the beach was less split. It was cut into three sections rather than a long stretch. I get why they did it, but I'm a sucker for a long walk along the ocean. A few favorites from the trip: Kelly's Restaurant - the best filet I've ever had and we had the best waiter the entire trip here (his name was Daniel). My favorite dessert was the flourless chocolate cake from Le Gourmand, if you love chocolate this had that yummy chocolatey flavor. The calamari and the buffalo chicken drumsticks from tapas were amazing. BEWARE though that the servings at tapas are not like the rest of the resort, they're HUGE lol so make sure to share and not order too much like we did. Luckily it was still just as delicious. Our favorite excursion was the Dunn's River Falls, do it! The pictures the staff would go around and take of you were a nice touch, but I wish they weren't so expensive or maybe have 1 or 2 included with the more expensive stays (we stayed in the butler suite). Overall, 99% of the staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We had an amazing honeymoon and will definitely be back in the future! :)

Overall relaxing holiday yet failed to meet a five star rating from this well travelled visitor. Booking was tenuous, especially as i had previously completed via app and responded to emails prior to arrival, credit card was insisted, even tough this is all inclusive hotel. Room was comfortble, bed especially and provided toiletries nice. Mini bar limited and was only refilled on request but housekeeping slow to attend. Resort was groomed however at the cost of constant power tools noise which was wearing at times. Pool was very cold, beach longers in shade only and booked by guests placing towels at crack of dawn. During relaxation times at beach/pool you are often approached by staff offering wine to purchase extra for dinner or photographers expecting you to pose for you to purchase later, which became a nuisance. Resturants were below my expectations with edible, albeit cold food and robotic very young service staff, who had to be reminded to retop water or chase drinks orders. Those employees who appeared more engaged become over familiar with juvinal gestures of punching fists with localised 'yea man'slogan, which grinded the tone and became embarracing as it continued. Entertainment was limiting, only saw one show in the whole week, as the complex is far too big to understand where and what is on offer. My experience of what was viewed appeared a performance by employees whose presentation compared to an amature high school production, a pleasent singalong but disapointing. The complex was over two sites, which was within walking distance but guarded, so to go to the gym in the morning you had to catch a bus. The gym was small but well stocked however did not provide shower facilites, so climbing aboard the bus on return was uncomfortable. Upon checkout i was horrified to learn that i had been charge for other customers shopping items and for wifi, which is advertisted as free. This was corrected but not without challenge so be aware.

Hello and thank you for your review of Sandals Ochi. While we are pleased to hear that there were enjoyable aspects of your stay, we deeply regret any disappointment. We do have a diligent housekeeping team that caters to all rooms on a daily basis. Our team has a schedule for room attendance and as a large property; it may take time beyond the morning period for some rooms to be tended to. Our concierge team will restock mini refrigerators daily based on usage; nonetheless, we do apologize if for any inconvenience may have occurred during your stay and will have the team briefed. We apologize if our resort team may have seemed overly enthusiastic which caused some discomfort on your part, as this is never our intention. We strive to offer all of our valued guests with an experience of a lifetime and it is our genuine desire to provide each guest with service beyond their expectations. We are also cognizant of the fact that Food & Beverage is an important component in our vacation package and the culinary experience is one of the memories that our guests do not forget. Any inconsistency in meal quality expressed is noted with a view to improvement as we continue in our stride for perfection and maintenance of our high standards. At Sandals, we continuously strive to provide a consistently reliable product and a comfortable atmosphere for our guests to enjoy. We are truly saddened if your experience was not in keeping with this and you left with an unsavory impression of the resort and not one hundred percent reflective of the true Sandals experience that we showcase to our guests. It also comes as a surprise to hear that you found the resort to be a bit mundane, as Sandals Ochi is known for its vibrancy and we have also received much great feedback on our entertainment. Nonetheless, we will share your feedback with our team, as we understand that there is always room for improvement. We only wish we could have surpassed your expectations throughout the entire stay, nonetheless, we appreciate your review as we are always willing to improve and we do hope that you will afford us another opportunity to welcome you back to one of our resorts in the future.

I was in Jamaica for business and had the weekend open so I decided to book Sandals Ochi Beach to spend the weekend. It was one of the more expensive hotels and best reviewed hotels in Jamaica so I went to try it out. I was told Top Shelf Alcohol was included and room service as available 24 hours a day. The hotel is in a great location staff is very friendly and helpful but the Alcohol was not Top Shelf all they had was Absolut Vodka and Jose Cuervo which neither is close to Top Shelf. Then they try to up-sale you on more expensive wines because the house wines are no good. As for there restaurants the food is good but takes extremely long to make the food and the all close at the same time so you end eating where you find a restaurant open. The one think the really made me upset was room service stops at 10 pm which is crazy. All the inclusive hotels I have been to in Mexico are always 24 hours and who wants to wonder the property at midnight looking for a open restaurant.

Sandals NOT what was expected. Luggage lost after leaving luggage with the Sandals representative. When I expressed the luggage was missing to the porter, he stated, "It's missing?" I had to go and find the luggage myself. We attended a wedding on the resort. The group made reservation 7-10 months ahead of visit requesting to have couples near each other. That did not happen. Poor planning on Sandals part. Room was not what was expected. At the time the reservation was made with the reservationist we expected a suite, either a one/two room suite and we received a one room 13x14 bedroom. No seating area, bed with bench and chair stuck into the corner. Room air conditioning unit leak water onto the floor. We placed towel on the floor each day. Again NOT what was expected from Sandals. Mini in room bar, which is inclusive, has open liquor bottles for you to prepare drinks. (Hmmm, 12 people die in Dominican Republic most were expose to open alcohol from mini bar). Meals, reservations are difficult, we worked around that issue. Meal quality, NOT what was expected from Sandals. Portions are small, example, Ribeye is probably about 8oz and no more that 1/4 inch thick. Restaurants where reservation were made, the staff rushes you through in order to turn the table. 80% of the time you will need to ask for your drinks. In the Bars and near the public areas there is little service. Often you will need to go and get your own food and drink. This even applied when we had paid for Cabanas. Bar, Sundowner, had a martini "hour" they ran out of martini glasses and it was not because the event was well attended. Later that evening, when ordering drinks for the table at the bar, because again there was no table service, the bartenders had to stop service as they were out of glasses completely. The website states premium alcohol, well only about 50% are premium however the selection at every bar is limited to the same bottles of liquor and NOT all are premium NOT what was expected from Sandals. Public bathrooms 70% of the time filthy. While playing shuffleboard I noticed an exposed electrical outlet. Wired yet exposed from the electrical box. When issues were brought to the attention of staff there was always an excuse. NOT what was expected from Sandals.

This was our first trip to any Sandals and first time in Jamaica. We went to get married and to enjoy our honeymoon. The property is beautiful and extremely well maintained and Sandals does an incredible job of making you feel welcomed and taken care of from the minute you walk off of the plane. The ride to the resort is a little long (between and hour and a half and two hours depending on traffic), but the driver was outstanding with a little of the local history and keeping the ride fun and comfortable.
Upon entering the property, the check in process is fairly easy and we were able to meet our butlers quickly. Dalmar and Shanique served as our butlers for the week and they are simply OUTSTANDING! Extremely professional and attentive, yet keenly aware of the space that you would like to have during your stay. We opted for the Romeo and Juliet Honeymoon Suite since it was such a special occasion and we were blown away with the room - which featured a separate seating area, hot tub, swimming pool and separate sleeping area with an executive bathroom.
The pools were extremely clean and well kept (some of the hot tubs on the property were out of service from time to time, but the property was just recently reopened when we went)
We got married in the Over the Water Chapel and were assisted by their INCREDIBLE wedding team headed by Michelle and Yanique! These ladies were fantastic in creating a truly once in a llfetime wedding experience for my wife, myself and our guests. The minister, Andre', did a great ceremony that was warm, inspiring and memorable. I just can't rave enough about the wedding team from planning to reception and everything in between!
The food at the resort was very good and we did not have trouble getting into any resort, however, they were only at about 30% capacity.
We will definitely be visiting Sandals properties again based on this incredible experience and would recommend a stay here to anyone for a wedding, vacation or just to relax.
We stayed on the hillside of this property and my wife and I did not find it an issue to go between the top of the property to the beach side, but just keep in mind that you will either be taking a quick shuttle ride between the properties or a walk up or down hill.

I stayed at the sandals Ochi resort in Ocho,Rios Jamaica for my wedding and I’m extremely disappointed in my stay . We paid a lot of money to stay in the butler suites and the rooms are old , the TVs have unstable channels, our room phone kept going in and out and didn’t work when we tried to order room service the first night. The toilet was having a issue flushing .

During my welcome dinner I was embarrassed because the food was served cold when and no one wanted to eat it . On wedding day , when I sent my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses to be dry cleaned . They came back extremely late causing me to panic and I never received my garment bag back that I sent it in . My groom sent his clothes to be dry cleaned as well . His bow tie was lost and his shirt that he is being charged for was balled up in a bag and he had to iron it himself . As you can imagine this is a lot to deal with minutes before your wedding . We did not receive our turn down honeymoon session after the wedding nor get the option to schedule our honeymoon dinner .

Almost every one of my guest had issues with their room from the shower not working to huge roaches in their couches . The hygiene is another huge concern for me . I’ve witness the staff using their bare hands to put ice in cups , and handling food . I asked how often they are tested for Covid and a staff member told me every 3 months which is unacceptable and to top it off just when I thought this bad dream was over and we could return home my husband somehow contracted Covid at the resort and now he is expected to pay for his stay up front for insurance to reimburse later. This is below the standards I had for sandals and I hope that my group and I can be accommodated for this horrific experience.

In addition , we are told to stay in our rooms but it’s taking 2hrs plus to get food. When the food comes there is no utensils to eat it with or condiments. I asked for ketchup it never came. I asked for a specific food item yesterday and I never received it. I waited to order it again tonight and still never received it. I call about the item and they tell me “ okay they will put it in “. 2hrs later I follow up with room service, there is no answer. I called the front desk they say the restaurant is closed and they forgot to put the item in. I do not like how we are being treated like caged animals. I'm very upset and can't believe this!

Sandals has free snorkeling to a nearby reef. Just need to sign up at the water sports office. You can also bring your own mask and snorkel and look at fish near the pier in front of the resort

A previous stay at any Beaches or Sandals resort qualifies you to go to the returning guest dinner. Make sure you sign up as a Sandals signature guest to take advantage of all of the extra perks. You can do this online or visit the Loyalty Office at the resort to do this. The dinner is usually held on a Tuesday.
