By far the hotel’s best feature is the beautiful view. Our room’s balcony had a full view of the ocean and the view from the restaurant and bar was also spectacular.
The room was very basic but clean. The grounds were well maintained. The hotel location made it easy to walk to downtown Ocho Rios.
Cons:
The service in the restaurant was not very friendly. The staff didn’t look like they enjoyed working there. It was very different from the other hotels we stayed at in Jamaica where we were always greeted with smiles by the staff.
The loud music from across the street kept us awake until past 2 am on our first night (a Saturday). The other nights it was loud too, but stopped around 11 pm -12am.
But above all, what was the biggest downer for us about this hotel was the caged macaw. The beautiful yellow and blue macaw was by himself in a hideous concrete cage with nothing in it but a metal perch. The bird looked depressed and sad. It was hard to walk by his cage every day to go to our room. It made us upset and sad. Macaws are very smart and social birds, they require a lot of space, attention and mental stimulation, and a partner for companionship. We found out this bird didn’t even have a name and had been living in that cage for years. It broke our hearts to witness such lack of loving care for such a beautiful animal.
For these reasons, I give the Hibiscus Lodge Hotel a 6/10 rating.

We were looking forward to a relaxing stay due to the pictures of the hotel description. Unfortunately, the stay became one of our worst experiences of our entire holiday.
First of all, you have to describe that facility is really nicely located and absolutely meets the standard of the price category.
Despite the fundamentally good basis of the hotel, however, there were many framework conditions that stood in the way of the fundamentally given recreational value.
Already on our arrival we were welcomed by unmotivated and unfriendly staff at the reception. Here we were also told that we would have to post a deposit of 120 dollars for the stay. This was only paid to us after a detailed room check of the room on the day of departure. Again, the staff proved to be less flexible. Due to a booked bus trip, we asked the "motivated" reception staff to do the room control before breakfast so that we could leave early after breakfast. However, this was not possible, as our suitcases were still in the hotel room over breakfast time.
The worst thing about our hotel stay, however, was the fact that we could not sleep before 4am on any of the three nights. The music of a directly adjacent club roared in our room from 10pm to 4am. The music could be heard in our hotel room despite the windows being closed. We stayed there from Monday to Thursday, so it wasn't just a weekend phenomenon. After a complaint to the "motivated" reception staff, we were only told that they were already looking for a solution to the problem. However, after researching the reviews so far, it can be established that the hotel operator has been "looking for a solution to the problem" for 3 years. Pricewise, however, they did not want to accommodate us due to the problem.
Furthermore, the Wi-Fi worked only moderately or not at all during the entire stay. Editing emails or streaming movies was therefore almost impossible.
Conclusion: The hotel has real potential due to the beautiful sea location especially due to the current night noise nuisance we would not spend any more night there.
Booked 2 rooms. A deluxe and a triple room. You would think it was at two different properties. The triple room is the most basic of basic that it does not even come with wash rag, even upon request, you are told it is not available for that category room. Expect to shower with hand towels if in any other category other than deluxe. You get a 30ml shower gel per room, I guess to last your stay. I am 2 nights and three days. Even after refreshing room, there was no replacement. Asking the front desk for anything, as in rags, shower gels, beach towels , anything at all you, you would think you were interrupting their phone time or better yet begging something. It would be easier if everything was for sale, then maybe you get better attitude or luck getting the basic of items from the front desk.
Did I mention, other than a deluxe room, which has a bath, the bathroom in the other categories is one small square. You can’t even turn or you will be on the outside. Maybe the reason they don’t provide wash rags as there is no space to wash.
If you plan on staying, travel with your own rag, shower gel and beach towel and this will take away half of your stress of healing with front desk. It is bad enough to not have the basic things you think you be provided, having to deal with the people at the desk give you a worse experience.
Lastly the breakfast situation, I had asked the only server there what is on the menu and he only listed a couple and my table also asked if it's possible to get a little of 2 of the options please note there were no menu presented to our table, only one set of options that are Jamaican based cuisine afterwards I found out the server only told me what he chose to tell me and there are other options for breakfast but he with held it . After breakfast a Male came to the room with a bill saying there is something to be paid for. So shocked at the communication, I was at breakfast more than an hour, and the meal was served 20 mins apart. I am a local and apparently this was how we were treated. There are so many other instances that occurred that would love to share. So displeased.

My room, TV not working, problem with the provider … which sounds to me they have not paid the bill..
No hot water due to it being solar and no sun..go figure .. should work on power as fall back.
The food in the restaurant is disgusting.. it’s either out the freezer or rice that has turned to mulch
I felt like Oliver asking for more at breakfast when I wanted more coffee.
Kept awake at night by a bar across the street, it sooo loud.. luckily I had my ear plugs.
And a hotel is no place for keeping birds in tiny enclosures the size of a cupboard.
3 weeks after my wedding my guests are still complaining! Portion sizes very small for cost per plate (my aunt got half of a wing as her only protein , very distasteful service ) .
Servers did not follow instructions! very rushy and inappropriate closing ( some of our pictures were ruined because they were clearing tables in the back drop ) , lost many stationaries because they were tossed out by servers! Beautiful venue but if I could do It again I would NOT use this catering/Venue for my wedding !
