In the heart of the colonial quarter of Santo Domingo, set among remarkable buildings, stands the Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando hotel, the former home of the Governor of the same name, a contemporary of Christopher Colombus. Built on the first paved street of the New World, where beautiful Spanish ladies strolled to display their rich costumes, the hotel's guests will enjoy an outstanding stay in a unique place where the stones, patios and fountains will take you back in time.

It's a beautiful historic building nicely converted into a hotel, with good facilities and very well located, offering a very good breakfast, all this at a reasonable rate. But such a special place should be run by better trained staff. Granted, there was this super friendly

This is one of the better hotels offered in Santo Domingo. Set in the historic district, it carries a lot of architectural interest and historically has a lot to unveil. They have rooms that are more modern and rooms that maintain the historical significance of the time period.

We sincerely thank you for choosing our property, and also for writing a review and sharing your experience with others. Particularly, we would like to thank you for higjlighting the hotel feeling, we do our best to keep up this property as the heritage building it is. For the general public information, room category called "Contemporary" was built around the 2000's. They were added to increase room inventory and while they were inspired in the colonial days, they are also the most modern. Imperial Colonial Rooms are the ones that date back to Nicolas the Ovando's days. They are the original building and also they contain the most ancient details, like the stone walls. They belong in the Imperial Club and have special amenities like its own private lounge, private breakfast and an after hours drinks and snacks from 5 to 7:30 PM Once more, thank you for choosing us. Shall you return to Santo Domingo, we look forward to have you.

Hello. We are sorry to see that some aspects of your vacation did not go so well. Thank you for pointing out the areas that need to be addressed. We will immediately be sure to check on the fumigation. About check in at payment, this is standard procedure at our property. If you needed to change money you could do so at the front desk or at any of the two banks that are a couple of blocks away from the property. We are sincerely sorry you could not find what expected. Please accept our apologies for this incident. Kind regards.

About 45-minutes drive. There is no beach in Santo Domingo (the capital). Well, there is one, called Güivia, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. It is very dirty. Trust me, I was born and raised in Sto Dgo, and WE won’t put our toes in Güiva’s water. If you will be staying in Sto. Dgo. as your base, go to Guayacanes, about an hour from the capital - east from the airport. Skip Boca Chica too, it is the “red district”, very sketchy area. 45 minutes from Sto Dgo. Continuing east, after Guayacanes, you will have many great choices: Bayahibe, Punta Cana, Bavaro...
