Everything about Waves exceeded our expectations.
Undoubtedly the staff are truly exceptional and the care and attention to detail each displayed was on a par with any 5 star hotel. The manager, Kim, is both charming and ever present - she runs the place with enormous skill.
Coronavirus arrangements: the place is spotless, every surface regularly cleaned, the mask wearing such that one is filled with confidence that all is being done to minimise the risk of transmission. The seating at the restaurant, bars and on the beach is well organised and well spaced. It is all done in a well disciplined and effective way that reassures even the most nervous/neurotic of guests.
The Food: we are not naturally drawn to all-inclusive holidays and our expectations were low for the quality of the food. The two chefs, Nicholas and Oliver, were impressive. We are vegetarian and vegan respectively, and both chefs made sure that we had something delicious that catered for our needs. The vegetarian sushi was outstanding and beautifully presented. All in all, whilst everything exceeded expectations it was the dining that did so the most!
The waiting staff: it would be perhaps a little unfair not to mention each of the staff by name and we'll try to name a few so Pam, Charmeine, Valerie, Loreal, Alison were wonderfully attentive and always friendly (as was everyone).
The Spa: is absolutely first class top rate and truly superb. Debbie and Stacey are both highly skilled and the ambience and quality of the Spa and treatments are again worthy of a 5 star luxury resort.
The Beach: its a great location with a really pleasant sandy beach that is often lapped by no more than the most gentle of waves.
Ocean Front Room: well worth paying for the Ocean Front Room, which is spacious and really well fitted out, but has a great sized balcony and spectacular views especially at sunset. Other rooms are available across the road on the spa side of the hotel and arranged around a large and well appointed pool - but we felt that the ocean view room was very much better.
The Gym: amazingly well appointed for a hotel of this size; great and well organised arrangements requiring booking and solitary occupation followed by cleaning for 15 minutes before the next guest is permitted in.

Bit of an odd title but there is a water taxi running during the day (not evening) which links this hotel with four sister hotels up the coast. If this were not available I think it might only have been 3 stars. The public areas of the hotel are comfortable and welcoming with great views out to sea. The bedroom was spacious, a very comfortable bed and a terrace views to sea but do note that the terrace gets quite hot in the afternoon sun. There is a pool for all in the main property which has no views or atmoshpere and was not that much used. There is a larger pool in the adults only section across the road which is more pleasant with trees and natural shade. I have seen other reviews that raised concern about having to cross the road but our experience was that the drivers were extremely curteous, much better than at home, and we had no problems. The main restaurant, Seascape, had views to sea and the staff were generally efficient thought coffee for breakfast seemed to cause them a problem at times. The food was good, self service breakfast and lunch and at table service most evenings thought there were two evening buffets in the week. It didn't have quite the relaxed atmosphere I would have liked but for a more relaxed meal there is SHISO in the adults part which is asian inspired, with a sophisticated but relaxed atmposhere and great food though the menu only changes weekly. You have to decide at breafast when and where you want to have dinner. You also have the option to use the other hotels to eat but have to book in advacne, two are all inclusive and free, two are not and you have to pay. You can use the beach and pools at all the other hotels for free. This leads to the benefit of the water taxi. The beach at Waves is quite small and reducing (climate change) and the front row of loungers often had waves running underneath. We were told that a few weeks earlier the swell was such that the beach could not be used. This means that is not easy to walk along the coast and depending on the tide virtually impossible. There is a policy that loungers cannot be reserved but this is not enforced in any way unlike Colony Club up the coast were it was effectively but tactfully policed. There was also a shortage of towels at times. We would have found Waves a bit claustrophobic without the abilty to use the other hotels but then we are not ones for just sitting on a lounger all day. Staff were friendly and efficient, mixed drinks probably a bit weak but rum punch good. Included wines limited but you could buy better wines at what seemed extortionate prices

We stayed 5 nights at Waves in a room towards the back of the hotel in the spa annex. The room was a little plain/basic and dark but offered plenty of space and was comfortable enough. The common areas of the hotel were nicely designed/decorated and well maintained. It was appreciated that the main pool was designated as being adults only so there was always somewhere calm to retreat to if the bustle of the beach and the excitement of the various water sports got too much!

For all inclusive, we found the quality of the food and drinks at the hotel generally to be high, enjoying most of the meals we had. Whilst the main restaurant was lovely we did prefer the ambience at the Asian restaurant in the spa complex. We also loved the coffee shop (with its wonderful air conditioning!) for light lunches and coffees.

Service was generally excellent, efficient, and friendly, and we particularly enjoyed the attentiveness on the beach and by the pool, where cold drinks and icy treats were always welcome.

The hotel arranges various entertainment and activities and we joined in for the adult colouring class one day. Unfortunately this was a little disappointing. Thankfully the yoga class was of much better quality and we generally enjoyed the evening entertainment, which created a good atmosphere for enjoying a drink in the main lobby bar area.

The main aspect of our stay which didn't live up to expectations was the spa. We had understood from research prior to booking our stay that some spa treatments would be included. It appears that this was wrong - when we enquired, we were told that for guests from the US, spa treatments are included for stays of 5 nights or more. But for guests coming from further afield (e.g. the UK) spa treatments are only included for stays of 7 nights or more. This distinction really isn't clear from the hotel's website and we thought the policy seemed a little unfair. Whilst this was surprising/disappointing, it wasn't the end of the world as we thought we'd still be able to book and pay for the spa treatments we wanted during our stay. Wrong again - because the spa was so busy servicing the guests with included spa treatments, they could only fit us in for one appointment during our entire stay. Thankfully the hotel we went to after Waves was much more accommodating so we were happy to spend our "spa budget" there instead!

We had our 3rd visit to Waves this year, returning home on 13th March. As always, the hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment you arrive, when you are greeted with a cold flannel and rum punch, or soft drink if you prefer, Jacqueline in Reception is incredible and remembered our names as usual.
This is a friendly, unique and exceptional hotel, where the staff actually enjoy their jobs. Everywhere you go, you are greeted by name and with a warm smile.
Kim Griffith-Lewis, the hotel manager is exceptional and is always around the hotel, ensuring everything runs smoothly, taking time to talk to her guests.
The bar staff are amazing and create such a happy atmosphere that guests happily chat at the bar. They even remember what you like to drink! We had a amazing 2 weeks and made so many friends, even being waved off, as we sadly left for the airport. The evening entertainment was good and varied. Guests even getting up to dance.
The beach service was also excellent, a ready supply of towels and beach beds were always available, guests did not reserve sun beds and this was effectively enforced. All the beach staff were great and ready to help with any needs. Chatterton and Pamela were supplying us with drinks, cold towels, iced fruit, ice cream and even cold minted sprays.
The food in the restaurants was brilliant and mainly waiter service. We ate lunch in Kyma and Christine was always there with her lovely smile. We even ordered a lobster, cooked to order by Andrew at 75 bd, an excellent price, I think and it was delicious.
Our ocean view room, was well stocked with towels, bath robes and face cloths. Our maid Julianna was brilliant, cleaning our room when we wanted.
The water taxi was great and we used it to visit the shops and see the other hotels in the group. We were however, glad we were staying a Waves.
The complimentary spa treatments were another added luxury.
There are too many staff to mention but they are all wonderful.
Marriot please do not change this hotel, nor move Mrs Kim Griffith- Lewis. It is such a very special place, with so many returning guests. The only thing you could do would be make a pontoon bar going out to the sea.
We miss you all at Waves and will definitely be back next year, coronavirus permitting

We arrived 13 Jan for 7 day’s holiday including a friend’s Wedding at Daphne’s.
The hotel was spotlessly clean at all times and we had an Ocean View room on the 3rd Floor which we loved especially the view of the sea and beach. Sunsets on the Boardwalk were fantastic.
All of the staff go out of their way to make guests feel special from the start of the holiday to the end.
We took the water taxi to visit Crystal Cove and The Tamarind resort for lunch but Waves was better by far.
The Sports Team on the beach were great - we enjoyed sailing and the doughnut rides and they organised a group of us to play beach cricket which was great fun! Pamela also looked after us bringing cold drinks throughout the day.
Great food in Seascape and thank you to all Restaurant staff especially Valerie and Jennifer for wonderful welcomes every day!
The Bar Staff were always pleased to help and the cocktails were terrific. Coffee Shop light lunches were lovely.
Waves is ideal for couples, but children were also very welcome and the local Reggae bus to Holetown was good fun.
The Spa is worth visiting - very relaxing.
Simply no complaints......a lovely hotel

I am writing this review on the last day of my holiday , laying on the tranquil beach surrounded by beautiful weather and sea.
1st must say glad we picked this hotel , when we arrived was greeted by most friendly staff at reception who got us a lovely cool cocktail , much needed after our journey.
Also our room was upgraded to a seaview free of charge which was wonderful.

Food was amazing, choice of two restaurants, both were amazing, you could also go to sister hotels for lunch or dinner, but you need to book.
Staff cant do enough for you, they are all amazing , Pamela, sabrina, tanya, melissa, joy, chadderton, kim, ryan, too many to mention all but they all go above and beyond to make your stay special so a big thankyou to you all.

Very covid safe too, temperature taken, sanitised stations around hotel, masks worn felt very safe.

Went into bridgetown, and oisins by bus which u can get outside hotel , that's worth a trip also swam with turtles, which was a magical moment, another worthwhile trip .

Nothing negative to add , just a magical e experience , and will definitely be returning.

Just back from a stay at Waves Hotel and Spa with my wife and daughter.

Overall, a very enjoyable and positive experience and I would highly recommend a stay here.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and in a very good location. It’s smaller than other hotels we have stayed in but the facilities and the beach were excellent.

The road outside the hotel can get quite busy but keep your eyes and ears open and it’s not a problem.

COVID measures were strictly applied and enforced and credit to the hotel management team for this.

All staff were very welcoming and attentive and worked so, so hard.

There was a free water taxi to sister hotels, a free shuttle to Oistins, great water sports options and a very good spa.

Pamela and Chad brought drinks to guests on the beach all day every day and were excellent. Bruce set up and sorted the sun beds and umbrellas and he was also really, really good.

One slight gripe was that although there was a “no reservation” and “be away from your sun bed for more than 30 minutes and lose it” policy apparently in force, it was rarely observed or applied. This meant that towels appeared on beds from around 07:00 and beds remained empty until much, much later. On a positive note though, beds were always available.

The main restaurant (Seascape) was well organised and run and although it was busy at peak times, there were no real issues. For an all inclusive hotel, the food was very good in terms of both variety and quality.

Shisho (the restaurant across the road near the Spa) was also very nice but we found it busy and somewhat under staffed.

The small cafe/snack bar in the hotel served a good selection of food and coffees (including a really good selection of wraps, cakes, cookies and pastries), however, it was always very busy and could definitely have done with more staff.

Entertainment in the evening was very good with all acts performing to a very high standard.

Jennifer, Valerie, Tamika and Christine were all amazing and worked so, so hard. Their attitude was brilliant and they were so friendly and welcoming. They really helped to make our holiday.

There was a slight problem with our room when we arrived which was resolved very quickly and without any fuss. Credit to Ryan and Kim (the General Manager) for handling things so well and just getting things done.

Our room was well appointed, fully air conditioned and spacious. There was a great shower and bathroom and it was cleaned daily to a very high standard.

A relaxing and memorable holiday and thank you to the team for everything.

Given the circumstances surrounding our holiday to Barbados I cannot speak highly enough of Waves and its sister hotel Treasure Beach.
We were amongst the first guests to arrive on Barbados in the current Covid restrictions.
We quarantined at Treasure Island who made the short stay there as pleasant as possible before moving onto Waves when our negative tests came back.
The staff at Waves were excellent and welcoming.
The bar staff were always available and pleasant.
Due to the limited number of guests, the hotel had merged its usual Seascape restaurant with its Asian restaurant so we had options at every meal.
The menu was varied and every meal excellent.
The staff could be seen regularly cleaning the public areas and hand sanitisers were available throughout.
Our temperatures were taken on entering the hotel whenever we returned from walks or trips out.
The rooms were spotlessly cleaned and comfortable.
The spa treatments included in our stay were excellent.
In conclusion, a great holiday and I recommend people to firstly visit Barbados and stay at Waves.

Our Room was very clean with a breathtaking view of the ocean and we absolutely loved the smell of peppermint which greeted us. The service was A class and the staff were very pleasant and interactive with our 1 year old. The food was 2nd to none which was quite surprising and impressive for an all inclusive; it in no way tasted mass produced (which I personally do not like). I must also mention how accommodating the chef was as he prepared porridge for the baby although it was not on the menu. The water sports were soooo much fun and the attendants were very attentive and pleasant. This really was our best family vacation!! I MUST mention it was almost as though the staff were a little family and they worked very well together. We were even served at the bar by the Manager Kim who was very polite and hands on.

My kids and i went to this hotel to stay for 18 days at the end of August. It was our first time visiting Barbados. It was lovely, very relaxing, clean and great with regards to Covid, temp checks, cleaning, social distancing and masks etc. The all inclusive food and drink were really nice. The service pool and beach side was fab, saves you going back and forth. The water sports were really fun. All beach equipment was sanitised between each use. The staff could not do enough for you. Valerie, Honey, Christine,
Jennifer, Loreal and Tracy-ann, were so lovely in the restaurant, friendly and chatty and really helpful. (all restaurant staff were friendly and polite) Sharmake was great serving us on the bar many times, he had such good customer service on the bar as well as polite and friendly wherever else you saw him. Ahkeem on the front desk was really helpful and couldn’t do enough to help you. And the room service lady on floor 2 who looked after us and our room was so nice. Always willing to help you. The manager Kim liked to check on you too, which was nice. It felt like a nice family place. As a woman travelling on my own with my children (as my hubby had to work), i was quite nervous about travelling as one parent with children but the staff soon put me at ease and i and the children felt really comfortable and at home at all times. Little tip- take cash to the beach as there are local beach sellers daily with hand crafted bits to sell. They make really nice one of a kind souvenirs. The beach is so beautiful and the sea is perfect. Only thing i would suggest is when it is really raining, having some board games or something in the lounge area to keep people occupied temporarily. I really loved staying here, it is a beautiful place and the locals are so friendly. I will definitely be back. Thank you for some great memories Waves! 😊🥰 From the Cooper family

Dear Missuscoops, Thank you for your five star review on your past stay at Waves Hotel & Spa. We are so happy to know that you choose to visit our beautiful island and our hotel was your choice of accommodation for your holiday enjoyment. We are thrilled to know that your stay was a relaxing one and you felt comfortable and safe with the various protocols in place. We saw that the staff from the various departments all looked after the needs of you and your family and made you feel at home. We also saw that you mentioned having some board games in the lounge when it is raining outside. Pre-covid, we used to issue various board and card games to keep guests occupied when they could not venture out due to inclement weather but unfortunately we had to cease such for the time being. We thank you for your suggestion nonetheless and for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Warm Regards, Shanette

They weren’t when we went end of November and the Asian restaurant was not open either. I suspect they may be back operational now.

"Listed as 4* - I would give it 2/3*. There are better hotels around but possibly not in this group which Marriot should be ashamed of."
