My wife and I arrived a few days before the New Year and spent a lovely 7 days in an ocean facing suite. While we really didn’t take advantage of the suite’s second room which contained a sitting area, it was nice to have the two bathrooms. The breakfast was reliable each day with a choice of breads (english muffins, bagels, toast), a good selection of fruit and yogurts as well as a warm food station with bacon, sausage, pancakes and eggs to order. It definitely looks like folks come down before 8 AM and reserve the chaise on the beach for the day leading to a shortage on sunny days.
The room was nice, as mentioned. The bathroom showers were just tubs with rain shower heads installed. The showers could certainly use some modernization / updating to better match the rest of the accommodations. One of the more annoying things was the large king bed is two mattresses. This made it very uncomfortable if you want to be close to your partner and one of you inevitably ends up in the crevasse.
One interesting thing to note is that there is no hot tub. It never even occurred to us to check that first. I love hot tubs and was somewhat sad not to have one available. I suspect this could be a British vs US preference.
We also had some difficulty scheduling massages, especially a couples massage as it appears that the slots are limited and book out several days in advance. May want to get those booked several days in advance.
Overall, the experience was quite nice and very relaxing with no significant issues or surprises. The staff was very pleasant and ready to help although I wish they would cruise the beach more frequently to take drink orders. The whole Elegant Resorts being bought by Marriott thing was what most of the guests were discussing although it doesn’t seem to have resulted in any material changes yet. If you are looking for a non all inclusive, kid free experience in a smaller hotel, The House would be a very good choice. Our flight was delayed so we did not arrive until dusk. There are no signs , just a gate that opened to reveal a wooden bridge across a large pond, lit by flaming torches.
As you exit the taxi you are personally greeted with the phrase, Welcome Home. Because it was dusk there was recessed lighting in the floor that lead your eye down the few steps through the lounge and straight into the sunset. There is no reception, an Ambassador brings you a glass of champagne while you take in the views before taking you to your room, which was huge, 2 bathrooms, 2 walk in wardrobes, 2 balconies, large lounge area - and views across the Caribbean.
Breakfast, with champagne, is superb, excellent choice, again with sea view.
The Ambassadors are very friendly and attentive but without being obtrusive.
The hotel exceeds at the little touches, sun cream available by the beach, cleaning your sunglasses, bringing round bottles of cold water, icecream (with rum) and fresh fruit, not forgetting the cream teas with scones, jam and Cornish clotted cream. Whatever you need the Ambassadors can arrange. Whist the hotel does not have a restaurant you can dine on the torch lit terrace and have dinner served from Daphne's next door, and if you are lucky, so can dine and watch the turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs . It is very tempting just to lay back and be pampered 24/7 but hire a car and see the rest of Barbados, little coves and long deserted beaches on the Atlantic side, but it was always good to get back to the House.

Firstly I’ve given it 4 stars rather than 5 as even the staff will admit it needs a bit of tlc as definitely looking shabby chic . That said, the staff and the setting more than make up for the areas that are less than 5 star. The service is top notch and you’re really made to feel relaxed and welcome at The House. Sandra the GM is very visible and ensures she gets round to chatting with all her guests . Repeat customers make up around 80% and I can see why . Marriot have recently acquired the hotel and hopefully a little investment will be forthcoming as the rooms need a bit of an upgrade but I hope they don’t change too much as it oozes character and charm .
We absolutely loved it .

This place came recommended to us, it certainly wasn’t what it said on the box.
We were put in a room with a connecting door which wasn’t an issue for the first night as no one was in the connecting rm. this soon changed at around 6pm the following evening when people arrived with booming levels of voice control, and kids, yes, kids, shouting, mum, dad. , phone conversations going on ect
The hotel moved us to another rm, apparently an upgrade. This was all fine and sorted of which we were grateful.
The service and consistency of quality service from staff was very inconsistent.
The Ambassadors, Andrew & Agnes we felt require recommendations to have promotions to management services when Marriott finally take over, along with Shane , these three people should run and manage this place, they would , could make this place first class. Between these three staff members they have years of quality experience, they know what guests expect, they know what is required to improve this place and bring it up to the standard guests are paying for, they are on the front line dealing with guests 24/7, they are experienced, professional and most importantly have incredible people skills
The general manager we felt was also good, but then we witnessed her drunk and drinking, taking selfie’s on the beach, yes it was New Year’s Eve, but when you’re in a professional capacity, You Don’t Do It,
The place is in desperate need of upgrading, a good cleaning and disinfecting, we saw a staff member chasing a cockroach around attempting to squash it, then we sat down in the dining/sitting area to find a dead cockroach on its back, this was also a food area,
The sun lounger issue is just a nightmare, we actually got up at 6am. Every morning this was a necessity as guests were leaving towels on sun beds all day and not actually using them, one set of 4 guests actually reserved 8 sun beds whilst other guests couldn’t sit on the beach as no sun beds were free, no staff member on duty at the time were prepared to deal with these greedy selfish guests, despite the hotel’s policy of no reserving sun beds. A lot of the staff appeared as though they had just given up. Shame would have dealt with this if he was on shift.
The food the hotel provides actually comes from Daphnies next door, this food is appalling, over priced and disgusting, again the staff here we felt had just given up
An extremely disappointing place to stay, certainly not worth the cost.
On saying this, we did achieve the relaxing, book reading break by a beautiful beach

We were originally booked to holiday in the Maldives but as this was on the red list, we asked our travel company for a suitable and comparable alternative. They recommended The House. Looking at the website (but regrettably not the reviews) we were excited. However, soon after arriving we were left disappointed and felt short changed. As other reviewers have pointed out, the staff are amazing, really attentive and they made our stay bearable. We stayed in one of the ground floor junior garden suites which was very gloomy as vegetation blocked out any sunlight. We also noticed that most other garden suites featured drapes at the front of the patio area, but the wooden rail to ours was missing, so no drapes. The room was clean but desperately needs updating. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks and a number of bottled beers but no bottle opener was provided! To get a sun bed you had to rise at 6am to secure one. We heard that many guests were fed up as there was clearly not enough sun beds for the number of guests accommodated. There is only one pool which needs updating as it is missing numerous tiles. I would also suggest that the ground around the pool and the pathways leading up to the front facing garden suites need to be jet washed. There is only one dining area and we found the food, on the whole, was agreeable but we didn’t really care much when buffets were put on, seemed a lazy way to serve up dinner. While champagne is served for free at breakfast, you have to pay for it at any other time, which we found annoying as we were there on an all exclusive basis. The red wine was palatable but the white wine and rose were of poor quality. The lunch menu stayed the same daily but nevertheless was of a good standard. Overall, this is not a 5* hotel, more akin to 3/4*. It is in desperate need of a refurbishment in order to provide a much more agreeable experience for guests. As it stands, we wouldn’t consider returning unless some changes are made.

Dear Mikeyportsmouth, Thank you for taking the time to share this review about your stay at The House. We sincerely apologize for the service experience that you experienced with us. We appreciate your feedback and value all of your comments. We have refocused on menu rotation, introduced new bar snacks as well as started the recruitment process for a dedicated Chef for the property. With regards to items not being available, that was an unfortunate combination of a breakdown in communication, a supplier being out of stock and a lapse in inventory management. To rectify this, we have tightened up on our inventory controls and reinforced attention to detail. While this visit may not have exceeded your expectations, we trust that you will return in the near future and give us another opportunity to provide you with an amazing holiday. Warmest regards Jason D Jordan Operations Manager

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at The House. Overall we had a great holiday in Barbados and our stay at the property was very mixed.

What was good:

The staff, they really are the saving grace for this hotel. Attentive, without being overly so, excellent service and friendly.

Champagne for breakfast and they weren’t stingy, generously poured.

Bar drinks and cocktails are well mixed.

Bathrobes in the bedroom, roomy and comfy.

The bad:

The House is extremely tired, to say we were disappointed with the standard of the rooms would be putting it mildly. We had a garden suite with a plunge pool. Don’t really know where to start with the room, it was clean as in not dirty but it was so dated, the lack of soft furnishings and pictures etc made it feel really unwelcoming. Things like no rugs at the side of the bed, so your feet are straight onto terracotta tiling, no toilet roll holder in the bathroom, loo roll perched on top of the cistern. Evidence of poor repair work in the bathroom, the tiling had so many holes that had been filled from previous fixtures. We could go on and on, just do not expect 5 star luxury.

Sun beds - be prepared to get up very early to stand a chance of getting a decent positioned sun bed. All the sun beds need replacing, old and uncomfortable.

Pool - missing tiles and dirty. The whole pool area needs a good jet wash.

Food - we were bed and breakfast and only ate at the hotel the first night whilst waiting for our COVID all clear. Evening food was of a good standard on that night. Beware the price of a bottle of wine was around £60 for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. It was certainly more expensive than other, much nicer bottles we had whilst eating out during our stay at some of the fantastic restaurants on the west coast.

Would we stay here again, no. Did it spoil our holiday, no. Do wish though that we’d taken heed of the previously poor reviews and swapped hotels which we very nearly did but convinced ourselves that it couldn’t be that bad. We were saying that a good comparison of what to expect would be 3 star Spanish resort level.

The price paid or being charged is not reflective of what you can get elsewhere on the island for the same money. When we booked the only other hotel on the west coast that was more expensive was Sandy Lane. We were due to stay at the Fairmont originally but due to COVID the dates were moved and they couldn’t accommodate the change as they were fully booked. We expected a similar standard, that’s not what we got at all.

Marriott have recently taken over the hotel and hope that the years of lack of investment from the previous owners is sorted out and a refurbishment is in the pipeline. We met some lovely guests at the hotel, some of who have been coming to The House for over 10 years, sadly without exception they were all saying this would be their last visit and they would be staying somewhere else on their next trip.

The House concept is amazing. Intimate environment for adults only and a stunning location. However the facilities and rooms are tired and appears ready for a refurb. We paid an extra £1000 for a sea view which was a total waste as all the rooms are pretty much sea view. We stayed for 12 nights and on the first 7 nights occupancy was about 30 ish people across the 34 rooms. Service was excellent from staff, Andrew, Nick, Shane, Wade, to name a few. We had towels set out, pineapple and ice lollies by the pool, drinks constantly served and ice cold flannels. From day 7 occupancy dropped to around 14 and then again after day 9. From day 9 all the above excellence stopped completely and it became a Butlins help your self. We had literally no service by the pool at all for our last 4 days. The staff became scarce and diminished. The food in the hotel was very good, especially the evening meals, which service was never an issue, although being the only guests eating dinner in the hotel with just the waiter and evening entertainment for company was a little eerie on the last night. The food and service at breakfast also deteriorated over the days and went from full continental and hot buffet with fresh omelette chef, to minimal continental and having to wait and hour and ten minutes for a menu choice by which time we had to leave for a trip and the food never even materialised despite reassurances. The rooms are very basic but kept outstandingly clean and the maids do an amazing job to keep the rooms fresh and tidy. The mini bar was a challenge and we had to constantly remind and ask for soft drinks to be restocked and was sometimes never fulfilled. Be aware the hidden hotel taxes that cost us an extra £300 over the 12 days also. The hotel was accommodating in giving us a late check out before this review which was appreciated (interesting if they would if the hotel had more occupancy). Slight insult when we booked a transfer home, to add it to the room bill was $160 bbd, but to pay the driver direct was $100 bbd. We do not begrudge paying for anything of service or experience but some of the above left us a little perturbed, especially as it started so well ? Happy to be corrected but surely the level
of service should be the same for guests no matter if there are 3 or 103 guests staying in a hotel of this quality and price ? Or should the price of the room decrease with the level of service also ???

I booked Treasure Beach hotel for 3 nights while we were getting our second covid test and waited for our results because they said we could use the pool and would not be isolated in our room. Francois at front desk was so efficient pre arrival and arranged our tests for us in advance. I informed him it was my husband’s 60th birthday while we were there and he arranged a complimentary bottle of wine for us too. When we got to the hotel they told us we were upgraded to The House hotel. Happy days. What a lovely boutique hotel. The beachfront rooms were large with a separate living area and beautiful bathroom with lovely toiletries. The bed was so comfortable one of the best beds I’ve had in a hotel. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, Agnes was delightful. We had our second test at 8am the morning after we arrived and the results arrived that same evening! The only negative is the pool is quite small but the hotel is right on the beach and the sea is gorgeous so it didn’t matter. The food choice was a bit limited because the hotel had only opened a few days before as an overflow from Treasure Beach but the super service we got more than made up for that. We had a takeaway delivered the second night we were there as we were only on bed & breakfast so it didn’t matter. We moved after the 3 nights we had booked but I was sorry to leave. I would be very happy to stay there again if we go to Barbados.

Arrived at The Hotel and was shown a beautiful room with stunning views. Sadly things began to decline the minute we’d unpacked. There was no hot water and as there’s no reception as run by all staff we didn’t get an answer to the reported problem. Very tired so went to bed early. Up early the next day with still no hot water, a horrendous sound of drilling and building works right next door which we weren’t told about, and the smell of cooking which was outside right under our balcony. Opened up now to an all inclusive so the cosy ambiance was lost and all chairs on beach and by pool booked early so nothing left! Food pretty mediocre and not what we expected. Thankfully we left that day and found another hotel. Staff were very friendly and very apologetic- Mariott Hotels need to assess what is going on and also need to look at some areas that need updating. Sad to have to report this as we so loved it there 10 years ago.

We were checked in to a really dirty room full on bugs and insects on the bed and really dirty floors and stained walls. They changed rooms for us after a 2h wait which was much better and actually clean this time.

First thing, this hotel would be better as B&B, its not worth it as all inclusive for anyone who is vegetarian as you will end up eating outside everyday. There are plenty of great restaurants that are not too far away.

Cocktails are average but a decent selection to pick from. Breakfast is average and offer the same limited selection everyday (but this is fine for a small boutique hotel)

The service level from the Ambassadors is below expected level and it was only until our final two days where they actually did what they were supposed to. Often forgetting our drinks ordered or picking and choosing whom they want to cater to. We often found them to always cater for some other guests while we had to call them or go the bar our self if we wanted anything. There were only a couple of Ambassadors who were helpful to us throughout our stay.

The beach is rocky due to the coral reel located just there, make sure to wear sandals or shoes when going in to swim.

The sunsets are incredible, visible from our balcony or by pool / beach / outdoor lounge. What a view.

This is definitely not a hotel to on your honeymoon but a decent hotel if you wanted to go B&B and plan on spending most of your time exploring Barbados (highly recommended) instead of being at the hotel all day.

Don’t believe a word of it!! They are meant to be closing the very small pool(which I have never been in have stayed here twice) There are 34 rooms & not enough Sunbeds. But the food is lovely & staff great… We won’t be returning….
