A nice resort overall with stunning sunsets, but could improve in a number of areas: - A lot of the older side of the resort looks quite tired and in need of updating - We had to wait 2 hours for our rooms to be ready, despite not arriving until late afternoon - Butlers reserving large numbers of sunbeds before 6am was extremely frustrating, there should be a quota of beds which they are not allowed to reserve to give other guests a fighting chance of getting them without having to get up before dawn - Service at Marios was extremely poor - we had to wait over 40 minutes for a table, despite the restaurant only being half full, and when we finally were seated, the staff were completely disinterested and inattentive - they appeared to be more interested in clearing the tables and preparing to close for the evening - Evening entertainment generally finished by 9pm so unless you were prepared to eat really early, it was over before you left the restaurant - The piano bar could have been really good but the pianist was only there a couple of nights a week and finished at 11pm which was at least an hour too early. While he was playing, there was a good atmosphere there but at other times it was completely dead. It is isolated upstairs away from the rest of the main area so no-one goes there. In comparison, the piano bar in Sandals La Toc is a really vibrant place with chairs positioned around the central bar area which gets everyone interacting and has a regular pianist. - It would be good if the resort had one really premium restaurant - Eleanors was probably the closest to this but it was still not the same level as those at other Sandals resorts - Air temperature in the Drunken Duck was far too cold for comfort and DJ music was very much tailored to American guests - no European dance music available ---- We stayed in the Sunset Bluff accommodation - rooms were good and very quiet with its own pool just outside and it was midway between both the Mediterranean & Caribbean sides so easy to get to everything. We found that using the Loop online system for any requests worked really well - after being told by reception that items we requested for our room were not available or that they could not change a dinner reservation for us, we made the same requests on the Loop and each time the issue was resolved within an hour. We did not see this service advertised by the resort, but were aware of it through TA reviews. Comments about security staff being racist in the guests they challenged coming into the property from the beach are completely inaccurate - they ask a random cross-section of people for their room number but it has nothing to do with how they look. The sandwiches & wraps from the Courtyard Bistro were fabulous, and great when there wasn't time for a sit down lunch. Tip for making dinner reservations: Reservations for the week commencing on Sunday are released on the previous Thursday afternoon, so make bookings as soon as they come out to give yourself the best chance of getting the times & days you want. Special mentions go to the following members of staff who went out of their way to make our stay a good one: Stacey - Kimonos/Barefoot Sammy - Barefoot Rashawn - Bar Jason - Kimonos Jamal - Water sports Rashid - Club Sandals Reception…
One of the best vacation experiences that we ever had. The staff were very attentive, friendly, and proactive. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Nightly entertainment and daily activities. There’s no need to leave the resort but plenty of options available if you chose to go that route. The food was amazing.
I had a wonderful time and my room was beautiful. The staff were great, nice, and friendly. The only issue I had was that often time food ran out.. I bought my own pineapple because you never had them. I'm allergic to cats and there were do many on the resort on the furniture and tables causing my allergies to flare up.
We had a great time!! Grounds were lovely, lots of things to do, wonderful room looking over the beach and central to everything. Our Butlers Vikesha, Eric and Wendal were top notch and they went above and beyond our needs. The reason they didn't get 5 stars was the pan handling at the entrance of the beach. We found ourselves walking away from the beach to get to the pool so we didn't have to deal with them. Also, bed could have been more comfortable and we had a leak in the ceiling above our tub which maintenance came and looked at but was disturbing. Other than that, top notch
Pros: outstanding food, beautiful grounds, huge main pool, long stretch of excellent beach. The Drunken Duck is our favorite of any Sandals pub. The Tex Mex at OK Corralle is pretty awesome too. Lastly, shoutout to Tasheika, she's a great chef and super friendly and nice! Cons: where is the entertainment? this resort gets quieter and quieter each time I go. Even the "party" pool feels more like a quiet pool when compared to other Sandals resorts. The DJ is hardly even there. It is no wonder this resort is full of older clientele. Other Sandals have the silent disco, which is a lot of fun - Antigua does not. The entertainment is very similar each day/night and gets old fast. The one exception was the steel drum band which was really cool to listen to.
We were a little hesitant with going to Sandals Grande Antigua due to the reviews posted here, but we were overjoyed to find those reviews inaccurate. From the start of our trip, to the food, to the beach, to the property- we could not have asked for a better trip. A few things we would have changed: -more beer selection- only caribe…can get Stella or Guinness at Drunken Dunk in the evening. They were very generous to give us 6 packs to take back to our room -Staff is not overly friendly, but definitely not rude. -the service at some points was on island time, but that didn’t bother us much -it is a public beach, but vendors leave you alone fairly quickly -big pool is very cloudy due to lots of people and swim up bar situation -Not all that impressed with Kimonos What we LOVED: -the beach is AMAZING. So gorgeous and no problem getting chairs -Marios, Soy, Bayside, OK Corral were fantastic…we were not able to get a reservation at Eleanors. -very romantic and private on the Caribbean side with 2 small, clean private pools -security makes you feel very safe- often ask for your room number when entering resort off the beach -room was clean and tons of towels -live music -easy to get drinks -the grounds were beautiful We are so happy with our first Sandals experience and will definitely be back again soon!…
Forgot To review at the time But we stayed a year ago and had the most amazing time. The grounds was immaculate, it really was absolutely beautiful with all the flowers very well kept. The beach was amazing so clear. We used to walk to the end of the beach If you turn right and do snorkelling where you would find little fishes. We stayed in the sunset bluff rooms for one week and the Mediterranean village for the second. Pros and cons to both we loved the size of the room in sunset bluff with big balcony and very secluded and with the Mediterranean village we loved the modern touches and big bath tub but the balcony was a little small. All restaurants was amazing. Our favourite possibly being barefoot in the sand but never had a bad meal at any of them. And they all had beautiful views of the beach. Room service was also very good and timely. We was fortunate enough to get married at this resort and we was so so happy with how the day went it was just the 2 of us and it was beautiful and intimate. We got married at the gazebo on the beach front but paid extra for the chandelier and candles and it was truly stunning. The wedding team have everything in hand and so helpful. Big shout out to Maria from the wedding team Who was so friendly and helpful we could not have asked for any more. Would love to return to this resort one day and would definitely recommend.…
If you stay in the butler suites with the pool and the hot tub, expect to hear music past all day long. Tried to enjoy our own pool and all we hear is music blasting all day and all afternoon. Yesterday they had a battle of the sexes contest and it was the lady screaming on the mic all day long. If you want peace and quiet, don’t book anywhere near the big pool. Definitely don’t book the butler suite. It’s not worth the money. It cost a fortune to stay here only to not be able to enjoy the room amenities. My husband actually left our room this afternoon to go to a different pool on property to get quiet time. Also, be prepared to be harassed by multiple sales people from the spa. They are aggressive too. We’ve been here for 2 days and been asked 4 times, meanwhile we already had a spa service booked.…
The staff was not attentive and the description of what was offered did meet expectations or was a flat out lie. Paid several hundred more a night for club level and got us really nothing additional. Refill of alcohol when they got around to it, and once a day. Drunken Duck is awful and you’re guaranteed indigestion….just that if lucky. Mario’s and ok corral were good, Bella Napoli ok, the rest horrible. Staff, some are great, others are rude. The beach is gorgeous, but overrun with vendors. Tony is trustworthy and a go to for excursions. I would not recommend for LGBT travelers as some staff and the older demographic here made us feel uncomfortable. We under no circumstances do any affection in public, but two guys at a couples only resort, do the math. They insist on having a party at the pool most nights where the music is intolerable if you’re staying in the med building. Called, they did nothing. Much better, quieter resorts on the island which we saw on a boat tour. The spa staff is wonderful and provide a great experience. Unfortunate that doesn’t compensate for the lack of value elsewhere.…
Our room wasn’t ready for at least two hours after arrival. Staff were not friendly at all. Chairs around the pool were reserved everyday for only the guest that had butler service. You have to get to the pool at the crack of dawn to get a chair.
