Beach suite is the way to go in my opinion. Absolutely beautiful. Ask for one located near pool and beach for convenience. I heard Rondovels were up next for Reno. Shade is available everywhere with umbrellas and was not an issue. The staff will even position the umbrellas for you as the sun moves. Arrange what you can ahead of time in case they fill up.

When we were there in June 2018, I do not recall any remodeling. They were building a new home on the other side of the island, but that didn't affect the resort. As for the transfers, it's not a matter of just the ferry ride, they make sure you are at the front of the customs line (both ways), you know where you're going, you have little to no wait, and you get in front of the security lines. The time our plane touched down to sitting on the island with a drink in our hands was 30 minutes. That's remarkable. The transfers are worth it.
I cannot speak for weather, but I do suggest you communicate with the staff when they email you prior to the trip. They are very helpful. They do outline their cancellation policy, but I don't know about hurricanes.
