Owner was friendly, helpful and very laid back. The apartment was really clean, well appointed (lots of kitchen equipment if you want to self cater) and soooo quiet. If you want to relax it's a great location but at the same time only a short drive to restaurants and beaches.

Charl & Janelle (and Gracie, the cat) are two of the most warm and welcoming hosts you could ever hope to meet and quite possibly the loveliest I've ever met on my travels. Nothing was too much of a trouble and their attention to detail, friendly messages and local knowledge was all the icing on the cake of an extremely beautiful location. The bed is delicious, the apartment extremely tidy and the view simply magical. A perfect place to reset and then go into Mangawhai to explore the many great things on offer, meet the locals and walk away with a memory or fifty. I cannot wait to return, felt like a home away from home.

My 2 daughters and I stayed here for one night on our drive back to Auckland from the Bay of Islands. This is truly a hidden gem, as other reviewers have mentioned the view is spectacular, in the hills on farmland with mountain and ocean views, it really could not get much better. The cottage we stayed in was on the hill with 2 twin beds, a queen and a quaint little kitchen and deck to enjoy the view. We had minimal dealings with the owner but what we did they seemed lovely. We would very highly recommend this property.

Made a last minute booking and we could not have felt more welcome. The owners are lovely and really show that they care about their customers and their property. The apartment was great. Had everything we needed and more space than expected. The spa was a nice treat too. Views are fantastic and though it is a bit out of town (we were well aware of this when booking) it has a wonderful seclusion about it. Great stay, highly recommend.

I couldn’t speak for highly of this place! It has the most stunning view and is run by a wonderful couple. We had a flat tyre and they went to so much effort to fix it for us. This place is perfect for a relaxing weekend away.

This is a hidden gem! We only stayed one night, but wished we had time to stay longer! It’s tucked up in the hills, the best apartment is the two bed at the top of the property- this view is amazing from the deck! The ‘village’ is probably a ten minute drive, not really walkable but has a few places to eat and a 4square. Drive down to the village, buy wine/beer, go to the great Chinese takeaway (shuts at 21:00) and take it all back to the apartment. Then watch the sun set over the hills! Bliss! It’s a 40 minute drive from pakiri beach Highly recommended, friendly and clean apartments. A few more local maps, books and a pack of cards would be good to have in each apartment.

Good people, great location and an awesome getaway from the norm. Highly recommended if you live in Auckland and you just want to on a quick holiday without drive or flying for hours. We really enjoyed ourselves. Be Back.

Arrived to find there was no power or water due to cable being cut down the road. Checked into room and went to explore Mangawhai beaches while power was out. Owners were super friendly and generously offered a free night due to no power for a few hours. We couldn't stay another night but they let us have a late check out the next day. Apartment was clean and tidy. Well furnished and beautiful views. Enjoyed spending time in the private Spa which is hidden amongst trees and gardens and is really peaceful. Great place to go if you're looking for a bit of time away from the big city.

I really don't know how this place got the high reviews it has. First impressions-the room was nothing like the pictures. A collection of secondhand too big mismatched furniture that was crammed into the room; mismatching curtains, and a barely functioning kitchen. Then the mosquitoes came-dozens of them hiding in the curtains, bedrooms. We could open the windows without an invasion. Then we noticed the fly swatted and insect spray next to the fridge. Clearly an ongoing problem. Kitchen- good fridge, everything else a bit haphazard. The microwave (circa 1995) never worked and the owners didn't respond to requests to assist with that. We had a family and almost no way to easily cook for them. The bedroom sheets were good, but the top bunk had clearly not been used for many weeks as there was a gathering of dead insects and dust. We had to shake it out before my soon could sleep there. There were cobwebs and peeling paint in all rooms and the room had a musty smell the whole time. Bathroom- adequate, shampoo supplied but no soap for the shower and the hotel sized amenity body lotion (I think from another hotel) was used (nearly empty). I'm very careful with choosing places to stay, but what annoys me is I could not have been prepared since the photos used to show this are old and in no way reflect the place we saw. It's neglected and not worth the four stars people have given it.

Dear Geust. Thank you for putting the review. Its just a shame how misinterpret you have found our retreat to be. Our accomodation is in the rural areas yes, but in no way we tricked you in booking the accomodation or with photos. If you looked at the other reviews, people were well taken care off and not neglected like you make it seems.. Peeling paint and mismatched curtains: my goodness. It sounds like you were at a bootcamp. The curtains are all brand new if you had a closer look. The outdated furniture in lounge, is all heirlooms. And we apologize if they didn't meet your style. We are sorry if you found the mosquitos invading as we have sprayed around the units and that might have been the 1 dead insect you have found on your sons bed, which you didn't book for. The unit has a flyswat, insect spray, and citronella candles, but as Im sure you were 4 people in the unit, it must have a been a bit crowded. The booking you made was just for 2 adults, and in the end you had 4 people staying? Driving past more than once a day without even stopping in at the office, were I was the whole day to help with any problems or qeuries, I apologize that you have had such a bad experience.
