Detailed Reviews
The only reason I am leaving a one star review is that it’s not possible to leave a zero star.
This place is completely unfit to host guests and I would recommend that if you’re considering staying here, stay literally anywhere else but here!
We arrived with pre-booked and paid for accomodation for a “bunk room” for our family of 5. It took us about 15 minutes of wandering the rambling damp property to locate the owner who showed us to our “room”. This is best described as a barn, complete with saw dust floor. We were to stay in a loft type area upstairs in beds that were covered in dust cloths..and literally what looked like months of dust and grime, including bird and rodent poo. The owner said he would give the room a clean before we came to go to bed. It looked like a proper clean of this space would take a week. It was the filthiest place I’ve ever seen and full of junk also. Oh also, composting toilets and a kitchen area in an adjacent area also with sawdust floor, dirt and grime. We had paid close to $700 for two nights for this!!!
After some discussion with the owner we managed to get their “premier Italian” room, also dirty with moths lying on the beds and a dirty floor, but at least it had a bathroom.
We were completely creeped out by this venue and everything about it and I wish I knew a way to help so that no one else has to go through this experience

Thank You for taking the time to visit us at Tira Ora, Fitty. I understand you booked the bunkhouse, as shown in your photos. Then were upgraded to a suite…which still did not satisfy you. Sorry about that. I did not have the pleasure of meeting you, because we had a Private Function on when you were here. By the way, there were no complaints from the people attending the Private function. Just goes to show, everyone has a different focus on Life. Relax and enjoy your life in Christchurch, and your batch in the sounds. All the Best, Annebeth Riles

We stayed one night here as we needed to use the grass airport. We paid way too much for what was less than average accommodation. We had to wait for our bed to be made despite having booked over a month before hand. The self catering kitchen was especially dirty and had leaves all over the floor. There was turkeys and chickens everywhere with lots of droppings all over the place. I would not recommend staying here if it could be avoided.

Hello Graeme Thank You for visiting us at Tira Ora, and using our Private Landing Field, in March 2023. March is Autumn in New Zealand, when leaves fall from trees. The leaves you were referring to were from our 20 year old Passion Fruit Vine that grows across our kitchen ceiling. Did you try any of the ripe Passion fruit…or just see the leaves? We are a Nature and Wildlife Center, and organic, so all types of birdlife lives here…and we feed them from the contributions Guests make to Tira Ora. You think we are overpriced…? Can you imagine the overheads we are responsible for to break even, on this 550 Acre Wildlife Sanctuary. We work 365 days a year to maintain the Natural Paradise… Your contribution to our efforts of $315NZD…was greatly appreciated. Enjoy your life in Indonesia. All the Best, Annebeth Riles
