Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What an lovely place to stay, would highly recommend a stop here. Stayed 3 nights while exploring the area. Motel was very clean and comfortable. Wonderful hostess, so friendly and welcoming. The beds so comfortable, electric blankets, and of course the great chocolate muffins. Close to pub and Lumberjacks restaurant which was amazing.

Very good place to stay - clean, well maintained property and spacious room with a well equipped kitchenette, reasonably priced; comfortable and quiet, would stay here again. The place is a bit dated (e.g. separate cold/hot faucets), but everything is in good, clean condition, and you are welcomed with two fresh home-made muffins.

A very sweet hostess, who bless her, you would have thought would rather be retired than running around after her guests. The rooms took me back to the 70's with their wood paneling and decor, but they in good condition and very clean, She arrived with hot muffins on a lovely china plate wrapped in a beautiful serviette and china milk jug with an old fashioned bead weighted cover. Even better, a very modern pub is just steps away!

We stayed here in January with our toddler and the host could not be nicer. Greeted with muffins and a mini one for our daughter. Her cot made up beautifully in the room (often find hotels forget this request)Motel is not modern but very clean and comfortable and in a good location for food if doing a road trip in the Catlins. Would recommend.

Gaynor was an incredible host during our 3 night stay. Welcoming muffins helped get two Covid lockdown weary visitors off to the best possible start. Our unit was comfortable and had all we needed. Our Laundry was returned within an hour or so- great. Owaka with many attractions including the easy to walk up Nugget Point lighthouse a short distance away, is a good staging post.

A lovely place. All facilities, and it was very quiet even though it's close to the hotel. The home-cooked muffins were a treat, and so was the real coffee and a plunger to make it in. We'll certainly stay here next time we visit the Catlins.

Room was clean and tidy. Gaynor was delightful, helpful, and a great muffin cook! Not much to see in town, but the hotel was right across the road from the museum, and was just a short drive to some pretty spectacular natural scenery.

This motel 10/10, the lovely lady made us so welcome. Homemade muffins delivered to us with milk in a jug with a nice cover over it. I am sure I have never been at a motel like this. A home away from home. Today we are moving on to look around the Catlins. Did stop at Kaka point and went into the pub, such a beautiful place, also made us so welcome. Met a couple from Napier on a trip very nice people also!

We loved Gaynors’ wee place - simple, but with everything you could need. Super clean and tidy, warm - perfect. Great linen/fluffy towels - Gaynor has lovely welcoming touches - fresh cut flowers and yummy muffins on arrival - very special, what a treat.
