Excellent stay from the first class friendly service to the high quality room, facilities and breakfast. Within walking distance of a choice of restaurants and a very short drive or free use of bicycles to reach a stunning dune backed beach that stretches as far as the eye can see. The two young people, Fillipe and Theresa, developing this business have an eye for detail, style and quality which is reflected in the room and lounge design, furnishings and products. The towels and bedding were lovely. The view from the rooms and lounge is lovely and is set to get better as their newly planted pine, cork and fruit trees mature. Our stay was exceptional and only disappointing in that it was too short. We look forward to returning to what is a little gem of a place.

The place is a boho oasis, nice designed, cozy and clean.
It's a small boutique hotel, located among farmlands, close distance(15min walk)to a beach. The owner Filipe is a nice guys. The breakfasts were ok but in this price(comparing to other places around the price is like for 5star hotel) could be more richer. There are bikes and surfing boards to rent, they cost extra but no one unfortunately explained us if we can use them and on what terms, we wish to get more information about the place and what is around.
Anyway if you are a boho freak and like nicely designed places you will love it.

Do you enjoy hiking, cycling, surfing, and/or lounging on the beach? This is the place for you. We stayed here for 3 nights and could have stayed more. Hortas do Rio is within a 15 minute walk to an amazing beach and hiking. There were bicycles in the bike shed but we didn't have enough time to use them. Again, we should have stayed longer. After a quiet night's sleep in a very comfortable bed, you start your morning with a lovely shower and the best breakfast of eggs, pastries, yogurt, and fruit. Upon your return from a day of exploring, you grab a bottle of Portuguese wine from the honesty bar and enjoy it while relaxing on your patio overlooking the fruit trees and garden with lots of birds. Then it's off for a short walk to several local restaurants for fresh fish. The end of the day was the best for us. We enjoyed delicious port around the fire pits outside. Hortas do Rio far exceeded our expectations! Thank you very much!

I was in this magical place with some friends in mid-March and at the end of the vacation we left all regenerated.
Hortasdorio is a place that really leaves you with something important and above all the desire to return.
Everything here is perfect, the care in the decor, the cleanliness of the rooms, the smell of good sheets, the light that enters the room at all times of day and then the people who work there are wonderful, they always have a smile for you, a kind word.
They take care of every little detail to make you feel good.
Thank you very much, I returned to Milan with a positive energy that I will always carry with me.
See you soon!

What an amazing place to stay, we can't recommend this place enough - you have to visit!
The owner, Filipe is a wonderful and welcoming host - nothing was ever too much trouble, he even showed us the best place to watch the sunset.
The stay is a complete unique and boutique experience from start to finish. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the beds were super comfy, and there was no noise, and we slept so well! One or our favourite parts was relaxing in the stunning communal area after a day at the beach, and getting the chance to have a drink with Filipe and other guests. (There is an honesty bar which has a great selection of local beers, wines and gins etc.). Another highlight is the breakfast, great selection of pastries, fruit, and scrambled egg, coffee, homegrown strawberries and tomatoes - all topped off with a great view. The local area is surrounded by nature and only 10 minutes walk to stunning beaches, also a lovely pool area to relax by. We will definitely be back!!

totally fell in love with that place! the design is just awesome, rooms are so comfy and clean :) the place is quiet so it’s the best to charge batteries and escape from city bustle. Breakfasts are delicious, differential and what was important, they served also gluten-free option ;) during evenings there is an option to sit in a common area, have a drink and listen to good music. I am delighted with the whole place and the Host who was very helpful. Hope to visit u as soon as possible :)

My family rented out Hortas do Rio at the end of September for a 5 day wedding celebration. It was our second time at Hortas do Rio. Filipe and his team are truly spectacular hosts, and he has thought of every possible detail from the food to the rooms to the setting. He has also invested in an outdoor cook space and extensive garden since we were there last time. We had our welcome, rehearsal, and wedding night dinner at Hortas do Rio and the food was divine. The breakfasts are also impeccable. I cannot recommend his place enough! We will be back - thank you Filipe!! ❤️❤️

This was one of the most beautiful and breathtaking places I have ever visited. The Hotel Hortas do Rio is just a few foodsteps away from the Ocean (Praia do Bordeira). The Landlord Filipe Santos is a wonderful and super friendly Host and made the best to make our stay in his House unforgettable.
Super clean and new Rooms, very good Breakfast.
It just takes 20-30 Minutes to Lagos and Sagres, wonderful Beaches for sunbathing, surfing, kitesurfing and so on really close.
I can highly recommend this location and will be back as soon as possible.
Thanks to Filipe for making our stay in Hortas do Rio so beautiful.
Hugs, Simone & Betti

First, very close to about 4 different beaches - so don’t be worried that the photos are all in the mountainside. The beaches aren’t hard to get to, 10 min walk 5 min drive. We spent a day surfing at the beach and then horseback riding the next. There are many options nearby. The perk is that you come home to a gorgeously designed room with a beautiful back porch overlooking the mountains. Also Felipe and Hailey are so nice. We were by the pool and Felipe asked if we wanted wine and brought it to us. Some places try to be relaxed and aren’t; this place and the people who work there just are relaxed. Fully met our expectations. Also they host a great breakfast. Should have stayed longer!

Hortas do Rio: Slow Living gives you a real zen like vibe. You'll come to rest in an instant. After passing through the gate you feel a relaxed vibe. The 7 rooms gives you a boutique hotel feeling and it surely is really nice to be there. When we arrived we first got some coffee and a small tour of the property. After that we got to our room and it surely is really nice! The bed is comfortable, the sink is from cork and a nice roomy shower and toilet. Also the views from our little balcony were great and relaxing. The next morning we got breakfast and with local sourced and self grown food it's really nice. Every evening they make there own cake for breakfast the next day. Thanks for making us feel so comfortable and relaxed :-D Also the owners Filipe and Hugo are so nice and welcoming. We got some surfing tips and they booked a class for us the next day. The beaches are really close. One is a 5 minute drive and the other a 10-15 min. walk.

Hortas do Rio is the place to be for slow living and taking live one minute a time
