We thoroughly enjoyed our stay pf 4 nights in this beautiful house which is full of character and colour. The location is peaceful, just on the edge of Carrapateira and there are plenty of walking options nearby, both rural and coastal. The whole area is very unspoilt and quiet ( we were there in March which is not the main season).
The hotel has lots of great assets including a swimming pool, sauna, table tennis, tennis court, a lovely garden and lots of outside seating. Inside there is masses of space to relax with comfy sofas and even a wood burning stove for the cooler months. It's just a great place to relax completely.
The breakfasts were generous, varied and delicious - lots of fresh fruit, cheese, ham, croissants etc, etc plus superb home squeezed orange juice.
Our hosts were the icing on the cake - so warm and friendly and chatty. We send a very special thanks to Thiago who supplied us with endless information on the local area and also for our onward trip to Lisbon.
I wish I was back there right now.

We arrived at the Casa Fahara tired and dusty after a five hour walk and found a beautiful oasis. The staff were cheerful and welcoming, the garden full of flowers and our room was large and comfortable with a lovely view of the pool. They even provided fresh herbs for the bath to ease our aching limbs.
In early March the evenings were cool but under floor heating and log burning stoves kept the hotel cosy. I cant wait for a return visit.

We spent two nights at the Casa Fajara. It is at the end of a dirt road off the main road in Carrapateira. The town is a walkable distance, but a bit far to do in the dark after dinner (we were there in winter).

It was off season so there was no one else at the Casa when we arrived. No matter, we were warmly welcomed and settled into our nice, if a bit quirky, room. A bit later a couple through hikers arrived so we had some company.

We loved the Casa Fajara. The grounds are wonderful, our reception was warm, the room had a great view (we chose one with a sitting room so we had a bit of space) and breakfast was quite good.

A beautiful hotel with large bedrooms with incredible views. The walks from the hotel are brilliant and lead to Portugal's incredible beaches where the beach bars serve fresh fish everyday.
Breakfast and dinner was lovely, and even got an afternoon reading my book next to the outdoor pool enjoying the spring sunshine.
Staff are great and nothing it too much trouble. Its a great spot to spend with family and friends as some can surf, some can bike, walk, play tennis or do nothing! A true gem in amongst a stunning location.

We have stayed here previously and, once again, we’re not disappointed. The rooms are a good size with a small kitchen area and dining table. Our balcony overlooked the pool and surrounding countryside. The pool is a good size for swimming. The breakfast are freshly prepared and delicious. Tiago made us feel exceptionally welcome and went out of his way to help. All the staff were very friendly.

While traveling throughout Portugal during a rainy November 2014, we stayed at a number of historic pousadas, but no accommodation came close to our unexpected stay at Casa Fajara – the unquestionably best lodging of our trip. Clean and stylish rooms, affordable prices, excellent service and staged in a magnificent location.

We stumbled upon this treasure after being stranded during a torrential downpour, which made the road to another hotel, where we had reservations, impassable. After a call to the hotel, the proprietor recommended Casa Fajara, and lucky for us, there was room at the inn and manageable roads leading the way.

Set in the seaside town of Carrapateira, this stylish resort is obscured from the main road by an outcropping of hills, evoking a sense of Shangri-La as you approach. The white stucco farmhouse is set against a striking backdrop of rolling hills framing a spacious field—which the rainstorm had temporarily converted into lake. However, the weather didn’t diminish the area’s stark and rugged beauty.

The inn is accented by lush landscaping and features a grass tennis court, an attractive swimming pool area, intimate outdoor dining patios and abundant verdant grounds. Inside, we found a warm and inviting interior, tastefully decorated with a mix of European country and modern furniture. Two large living rooms provide cozy seating, fireplaces, ample reading material, a game table, fully stocked bar, chic artwork and fun accessories.

We were greeted by a friendly and helpful manager named Derek, who wasn’t expecting guests – to the extent that he had given his key staff time off. We were not the only stranded strangers, however. Three other cold, wet foreigners straggled in soon after we arrived and without reservations as well. Despite a lack of employees, Derek promptly took care of us all and provided over-the-top service throughout our brief stay.

Our room was furnished in the same fashionable manner of the inn's sophisticated style. We had a sizeable bed, a working fireplace and an enticing bathroom with a deep tub and luxurious toiletries. French doors opened to a tiled patio that looked out on the distant hills.

After a hot bath and change into dry clothes, we returned to one of the main seating areas, where Derek had built a cracking fire and told us to help ourselves to a drink at the bar. With a glass of wine in hand, we plopped down on comfortable red sofas in front of the fire and read. While we could have tried one of the seaside restaurants for dinner, we reconsidered after realizing the deluge refused to let up. Instead, Derek pulled together whatever ingredients he had on hand and made us a scrumptious zucchini soup, which we enjoyed with fresh bread, goat cheese and apples.

Morning brought clear, bright skies, and a peak out our bedroom window revealed that the water had receded, exposing a field with grazing cows once again. For breakfast, we were treated to delicious omelets along with various baked goods, wonderfully strong coffee and fresh fruit.

This fortified us for a quick car ride to the beach, where we walked up winding paths along steep cliffs that led to the water’s edge for stunning ocean views. Exuberant waves crashed against the shore, creating a dramatic scene reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest coastline.

The area is a popular destination for adventurers and outdoors lovers – surfers, hikers, cyclists and anyone who embraces fitness and healthy living. Casa Fajara promotes wellness and restoration, offering not only ample activities for exercise, but also yoga classes, massage, spa products, and fresh and nutritious cuisine. It’s an ideal spot for relaxing in a natural setting, getting in ship-shape and reviving oneself. We wished we could have stayed longer. My advice: skip the cold and stuffy castles and convents--where service and accommodations can be iffy--and make a trek to this precious find.

We visited over Feb half term with two boys, five and seven. It was wonderfully relaxing and very comfortable. The two lounges are especially rustic chic. The rooms are full,of character and the breakfast simple but lovely. The local seafood is fab and the beaches beatiful but not for swimming with small kids as the ocean waves are huge.

Agree with Brian H. There is small restaurant in town and a bar but not much else. Better to enjoy the pool and facilities at the hotel.
