Detailed Reviews
My hiking partner and I paid 50 euros for the private twin room (bunk beds) with shared shower. Room was very clean, beds comfortable, bath/shower worked very well, WiFi was strong. The kitchen area is clean and wonderfully equipped, with lots of 'free' food left behind by others. Two social areas, one inside and one on the terrace, are very well appointed. But the best thing is the staff and the other guests. Everyone was helpful, bright, engaging... a free-floating community of more-or-less fit hikers and surfers. The 'vibe' was uplifting, inspiring. What a great place!

We stayed there just for two nights, but we really enjoyed it there! The whole facility was very lovely, the bathroom is very clean and they got a terrace from which you can watch the sunset. The whole stuff was nice, but special thanks goes out to Diego who made sure that we had everything we needed and even joined us when we went surfing! Would definitely come back!

We spent 3 days at Hostel do Mar earlier this month and it is one of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed in.
Clean, great facilities, vibe is awesome, staff are helpful, location is perfect and they have everything you need for your stay in Carrapateira since you can hire boards and wetsuits there as well.
I would come back and stay here in a heart beat.

The town, the place, the people.... only love for this spot! Had an amazing time this summer, we stayed for 2 nights and I would recomment this to all my friends & family. The room, our bed, the shower & staff are good! I'll for sure be back :-)

I give 3 stars, because I did not like the fact that Portuguese is not spoken there. Suddenly, it seems Carrapateira was sold to Dutch/German people? Fine, but they ought to speak the local language, if they want to have a business there...
Apart from that, this hostel is quite new; rooms were clean and comfortable, but lack space for stuff (I would suggest some small shelves or boxes from IKEA, simple but so handy!). The breakfast is not included, but if you order it, it is very well served. Difficult to park the car, but you find places in the center.

Such a lovely hostel. Staff were friendly and really cared for the hostel and customers. The hostel is in a great location right next to some shops and cafes. The hostel is nicely designed and has a great kitchen/dining area. It's relaxed but very clean and has a lovely balcony to relax and read on. Dorm rooms are a good size and include lockers under the bed. The bathrooms are really nice also, well designed and clean. You can sense how much thought has gone into design and how much the owners understand what various users might be looking for in a hostel. Thanks for a lovely stay in one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in 😊

+1
We stayed in a private room that was immaculate. Right out of an IKEA catalog. It had a shared bathroom that was also very clean. The balcony off the kitchen is perfect for having coffee or sitting and reading a book. The people are the best thing about the place warm and welcoming. When we had to get to Lagos they called us a taxi. I think there's only one in the town. The town is a real joy. You are literally steps away from it. Surprisingly for it's size the restaurants are terrific. The beach is not far and easily walkable. Highly recommend.

Such a nice, beautiful and clean hostel. Well designed and planned, really tranquil and calm, and so very nice staff that will patiently help you with whatever you need. Central spot in the small village Carrapateira and so close to restaurants, a fruit market and a mini market. 2 km to the amazing Bordeira beach. This is a place for surfers, not so much a classical sunbathing holiday since the waves are big and the water a little bit cold. But it's relaxing to stay here and you can trekk and visit the local museum. Highly recommended!

The rooms are individual, the terace is great for breakfast or dinner. Pedro is a very hospitable and helpfull guy who cares a lot for the guests. The village is one of the nicest villages in the area, also liveable in off-season with a market and some restaurants. Best for hikers or as a ideal base for surfers between arrifana and sagres.

Can only say good things about our visit to Carrapateira, and our stay at Hostel Do Mar. The owners, Pedro and his wife and young son live in the same building in their own apartment. The Hostel is designed to accommodate groups couples and singles efficiently, and warmly. There is a great woodstove in the common living room/ kitchen with guitars to play, stereo, and tv/DVD's.
The comfortable mattresses and cozy quilts made our nighttime rests just like home.
The location is ideal for access to the great little village for snacks, meals, and groceries with a fresh produce market. That, and it's right on the Rota Vicentina for a spectacular walk out along the beautiful scenic Fishermans Trail along the coast with sandy beaches and flora and fauna galore.
We hope to be back soon to enjoy the hospitality of this hostel, one of the most enjoyable hostels we've visited.
