We stayed at the Crown for 9 days. Our room was spacious and clean with our own pool which we both loved. It was serviced everyday and was left spotless.
What we also loved was the privacy! We never heard any other guests. You wouldnt know anyone else was staying, even though the rooms were fully occupied.
The setting is lovely with the best sunsets. The cocktails are generous and strong!! Just what you want! We found it was a great location as we were able to hire E-bikes directly over the road, and hire a car, also just down the road.
The staff are lovely, always cheerful and happy to assist with any enquiry.
We really enjoyed our stay here and had a great time

Stayed a few days in a beachfront villa (number 8); very spacious and comfortable with water views and 2 private decks (one covered and one open). Bed was so comfortable we had great nights' sleep. Bathroom is modern.
Staff are very friendly and attentive. The resort is very laid back, done in simple style, with privacy for most rooms, and very quiet (no night entertainment or organised activities) but makes a very relaxing stay.
The waves break heavily out on the reef about 100m out; which you can't really safely access. But you can swim and snorkel in the lagoon on the beach side of the reef and see some fish life around the coral heads / bommies. It is rocky like most of this western coastline, so you need reef walker shoes. You also get a lovely sunset view on this western side of the island.

Stayed in a pool villa. Great value. Great privacy. Large king size room with day bed/ 3rd adult bed. Kitchenette, separate toilet and large bathroom with bath and shower and double basin. Garden, pergola and pool for private use in walled off villa. Great for couples or family of 3. Resort is reasonably well maintained. Our accommodation and resort overall felt like 4 star. However some items drop it to a 3 star. Service is 'island relaxed' but freindly and effective. WiFi is rubbish (good excuse actually to just disconnect from the 1st world). Breakfast buffet is good and they will cook egg and bacon on request. However lunch and dinner menu well below average for even a 3 star hotel (I suspect lingering COVID issues on the island are still at play with skilled workers). We ate out every opportunity. Facilities are OK. Pool is great and you can snorkel off the beach in calm water. Cocktail bar is a PLUS. Overall enjoyed the stay. Great location to experience the island and was served by wonderful people.

I have been patient hoping to have some answers from the crown but no repsonse...so here it is . A friend and I booked here for a 5 night holiday ex nz . On arrival our poolside suite (although in a great location ) was severely run down and in need of maintenence and a deep clean . Couches were stained with what not , the bin was broken , powersockets were falling out of the wall .The shower dribbled and was unusable. Multiple polite requests to the reception to get itthe shower repaired was unanswered . Conclusion was the pumps couldn't handle the amount of rooms and we should shower in non busy hours. Even that was hit and miss with no hot water . The request to be moved was declined as the other room had the same issues with water. Obviously they were aware and rented the rooms anyway .The heat pump was in dyer need of servicing with dirty water dripping from it so we chose to not use it . Bathroom floor appeared to have never been mopped. The beach was littered with smashed glass. Holidayers collected alot of it and handed it to staff members... the breakfast was average . Sometimes made us uneasy eating it while seeing birds flying and landing on the food with little attempts made by staff to stop this. The pool is also in need of maintenance etc We requested an early check out and refund for the reminder days as we were willing to fork out more money to stay else where but was declined. with no assistance from management we called our travel agent with photos after 2 nights . They moved us to the sunset resort down the road. What a difference!! Clean well maintained rooms beautiful views. Staff were a pleasure to be around . Our travel agents are in contact with management of crown (although staff were polite and helped where they could, the manager always seemed to be unavailable) such a shame the photos online looked great but we were deceived. Also if you don't like early mornings don't stay here leaf blower at 7am and roosters crowing from about 5am onwards outside your window .also only 2 channels on the TV. Again outdated , with bunny ear antenna .Parliament nz or a fuzzy unclear picture of their local channel. Coffee cups were not cleaned from last visitors. There were Ants in the jug . Ant nest also gaining force in the bathroom wall (wall also appeared to be leaning over and light force it would've fallen) see photos . Please reconsider your options and don't be disappointed and lose out on $ like we did.

We arrived in Rarotonga to be transferred to the Crown Beach Resort (C.B.R.).There was no record for our transfer. After providing our confirmation number much discussion ensued. The transfer company (Island Hopper) tried to shift the blame away from themselves. Finally we were put in a taxi to the C.B.R.
At the reception the greeting was: We need proof of your transfer confirmation and a credit card for incidentals. No apology was made, no attempt of a solution. Instead we were told to „take it up with our travel agent“.
All this unpleasantness for the paltry sum of NZ $30 (which we had to pay for our way back to the airport 4 days later). After traveling for almost two days from America we were taken aback about the rudeness of the welcome at the C.B.R.. Unprofessional, uncaring, nothing of the supposed friendliness of the Cook Islands.
While the grounds are well maintained, the pool and beach area are nice (although I personally collected a handful of broken green glass from beer bottles. Be careful to walk barefoot!), the employees seemed subdued and not motivated. Extra coffee grounds for our room never arrived, fresh beach towels had to be requested, food was average at best. Specialty coffee for breakfast
NZ$ 5, better take your beach towels and umbrellas to the reception upon checkout, otherwise you will be charged.
Rarotonga has changed. We visited in the 1990s multiple times. Then it was heaven, now it is completely overrun with tourists. This change was reflected in our treatment at the C. B.R.. We did not enjoy our stay there.

Just left this beautiful destination - This is my fair and honest review of the Crown.

Location - Maybe 10 mins drive from Airport - We are so glad we hired a car to get around and visit different locations for food, activities and beach.

The Property - I think some work can be done to bring this hotel back up to scratch. When we arrive the first thing we noticed was the front entrance pond, it was green. The grounds were clean but could do with some more plants, and garden lights need to be replace especially at the beach front villas. We had to use our iPhone to light the way.

Pool is lovely and big and needs some care.

Our Villa - oh amazing location right on the beach.. The front door was a bit small for the frame, so it let in the mozzies. The only issue we had with the villas was the tv. Only one tv channel and that was fuzzy. I would recommend an upgrade to the tv's to be smart tvs and also to improve the wifi. We had rain for a few days, so at night it would have been great just to watch some tv and relax.

Breakfast buffet - just the basics, which is fine, but I would have expecting a better range of fruit being on a tropical island. They didnt have bananas for 4 days.

Staff were amazing - cant complain about them. So friendly and helpful They always were working.

Would I stay again --mmm no, unless the did update a few things. I just feel for the price we paid we could have stayed a better equipped resort. I would say this is a 3 star hotel. Basically if this was cheaper that the other resort, ok fair enough we would sort of expect some faults, but it wasn't.

Totally not worth the money. The resort is tired and needs some major renovations. The restaurant food is mediocre and the breakfast is dry and unappealing. The pond needs repair instead of having filthy water sitting in them.

The rooms are tired and need major renovations to live up to the luxury resort they are advertising. Towels were threadbare in areas, beach towels had bleach stains and the shower recess had black grout in areas. It is a 3 star resort at most.

Totally threw my 3500.00 for 5 days away. It is an adults only resort but children are allowed into the restaurant then proceeded to run through the resort chasing each other. Barely slept thanks to the numerous roosters going off all night, so not relaxing at all.

Would never go there again and would never recommend it to anyone, it is by no means worth the money.

Our stay could easily be described as a game of two halves perhaps impacted by the level 2 Covid lock down in place at the time. On the positive the room and courtyard were very good and of the standard expected from a resort charging over $640 NZD per night. The room very comfortable with a private pool, big bathroom and a great shower, air conditioning, a one channel TV, safe, fridge, microwave, toaster and tea and coffee making facilities.
On the negative we were never made to feel welcome, although we were both well, had stayed across the NZ government’s advice in regards to places of interest we were forced to have a covid test and isolate in our room until the results came back, even after the results came back it was hard not to think they just wanted the last of the remaining guests gone. The paid wifi was patchy outside of the resort centre so useless when isolating in our room or later at the resort beachfront. With only 6 units occupied (out of 36) there was no snorkelling gear available. The main pool was not clean and the restaurant and bar shut earlier than advertised and reception would not do room service. If the resort had been at any where near capacity there would be a huge shortage of beach leaners and sea kayaks. The roosters that were allowed to roam the grounds woke us and kept us awake at all hours of the night.
The property has an on-site Spa and 2 Restaurants although one is shut. Food and service at Oceans (house restaurant) was very good. In short the resort looks & charges like a major resort but can’t deliver against promises made, we won’t be back and couldn’t advise anyone to stay, the prejudice we received was disappointing and not only reflects badly on the Crown but on Rarotonga.

Kia Orana Lesley M, Meitaki for taking the time to review your stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa. Although we naturally delight in receiving compliments, we also sincerely appreciate our Guests informing us of when our services and/or products fall short of expectations. We would like to apologise that you felt unwelcome and wished that you had brought this to our attention as the Resort Duty Manager is always available on site to attend to any concerns e.g. wifi, restaurant, housekeeping. As for the roosters well that's another issue, the chickens here in Rarotonga are free range and unfortunately as hard as we try to keep them off of the property, there is not much we can do as they are abundant and wander freely. Our Mangement & staff have been working hard during the lockdown to improve some of our Villas and main pool which is now in operational. We are always striving to improve our standards and therefore your comments will provide a valuable tool of reference during our Departmental Meetings and Staff Training Sessions. Your contribution is therefore appreciated. Once again, we thank you for your review and we hope to welcome you back to paradise again soon! Kia Manuia The Crown Beach Resort & Spa Team

Avoid at all costs. Unfortunately, the photos on the website are clearly from when the place was built, and not recent. The entire resort is run down, and and in need of a massive makeover. We were in a poolside villa, great location, but the villa was dirty and out dated... power sockets hanging out of the wall, heat pump dripping dirty water, unclean cutlery the list goes on... then the water wouldn't work (on multiple occasions). When we questioned the maintenance staff we were eventually told the pumps couldn't cope when the resort was at full capacity and to shower at another time. We asked for another room but were told they were full and didn't offer us any other compensation. We could never speak directly with the manager as they were always unavailable. The staff seemed very unhappy and at times were rude. The buffet breakfast was basic, and had birds jumping all over it which was off putting. There was no internet. We left after 2/6 days and paid to stay somewhere else.

When you pay over $700 a night for a villa in a resort you have certain expectations on quality and service and I'm afraid the Crown Beach Resort fell well short of those expectations. You don't even get free wifi! You have to pay extra for that and there was no guarantee it would work if your villa was too far away from reception
The whole resort is run down and nowhere near the 4 1/2 star resort it claims to be. It obviously was once, but not anymore.
We had a beach front villa for 7 days.
The villa was huge but run down. The whole resort needs a full makeover to charge the prices they charge.
If it was $300 a night we would have been perfectly happy to overlook the quality issues, but when you pay over $5000 for a week you want luxury and we didnt get it!
You walk around the resort and most of the feature ponds are near empty with green stagnant water, the gardens are bare and unattractive,
We didn't have hot water in the villa for 2 days, the buffet breakfast is not good, in fact all their buffet meals are terrible.
We booked in for the buffet Sunday roast which started at 6pm, we got there at 6:45 and most of the trays were empty, and what was there was cold! The staff don't seem to top up the trays as the night goes on so unless you are there as soon as it starts you are out of luck. Same goes for breakfast! Not good enough!
The staff are all lovely though, very nice to deal with, but could be a bit slow in the restaurant and bar.
But to be fair, we did have an issue with our booking and the general manager did try to make it right so credit for that.
We talked to other guests during the week and they all felt the same as we did, infact we spoke to a couple who stayed there 6 years ago and couldn't believe how badly it deteriorated in that time.
Overall we enjoyed our week, but from what we seen on the island there are plenty of other resorts that are way better value for money.
Seems like most of the good reviews for this place are from a long time ago when the Crown was at its best. Those days are gone

Kia Orana Dwayne, Thank you for your review and speaking with us while you were here. While we are saddened that you feel that your expectations were not up to standard, we are continually working to improve our resort and make it a great experience for everyone who stays. We are pleased to announce that we do now offer free Wi-Fi and we are working with our IT specialist to improve coverage. We do not self advertise as a 4 ½ star resort we self advertise as a 4-star resort. In regards to the gardens being bare and unattractive we do have seasons here in the Cook Islands just like in other parts of the world and it is currently winter here and it is not an actively growing season for the flowering trees and shrubbery. While we would have loved you to bring any issues that you had with our restaurant to our attention while you were staying with us so that we could have discussed this face to face. We have noted your comments in regards to the buffet and will take them into consideration. We are glad to know that overall you did enjoy your week with us here at Crown Beach Resort & Spa. We hope to welcome you back to Crown Beach Resort & Spa in the future so that you can see the improvements that we are currently working on. Kia Manuia, Resort General Management

I can only advise that our experience was wonderful. You are heading to a country where ‘Island time’ isn’t be factored in everything you do. At the Crown, the food was great especially the breakfast selections. Cocktails were reasonable. The villas were clean and tidy and well air-conditioned. There was access to beach and water entertainment equipment. We loved the place and are planning a return trip in early 2025.
