We had to stay overnight in Rarotonga to catch our flight back home. We had stayed at Pacific Resort in Aitutaki and then we had to spend a night at this place. It is a glorified multi-story motel and the rooms and the grounds are quite outdated. Many motels have better and often more spacious interior. Initially the receptionist tried to put us in a downgraded smaller room and only upon questioning him were we given close to the room that was booked. There was construction noise ALL DAY right in front of us and we were not informed about it. The interior of the room is quite outdated with just the basic bed and a small bathroom. The restaurant was adequate for dinner and breakfast but the band was too noisy and there was nowhere you could escape to, especially as it was raining…
I stayed here for 4 nights last week whilst over on holiday. Check-in/out were quick & easy. I stayed in the cheapest room (garden view) and was pleasantly surprised. Looked like it hah had a recent tidy-up with a more modern bathroom. Room was spacious. TV channels & reception is very limited (but who's there to watch tv?). Restaurant & bars are large & have plenty of room. Island night was great (although I didn't have a meal), parking for rental car within the resort, access to beach is good but note that the beach is a mixture of sand & coral so wear thongs/jandals. The swimming pool is a decent size. The included tropical breakfast was average, but filled a spot to keep you full enough until you try one of the many other eateries on the Island for lunch. The dinner menu is…
Edgewater Resort is just that - right on the water. Our room was a Deluxe Ocean twin and it was huge. Full bathroom including bathtub, shower and big vanity. A queen and a single was perfect for 2 friends and the balcony framed the most amazing sunsets I've ever seen. No filters required for postcard perfect shots. The dining options were so fresh, we witnessed local fisherman dropping of marlin steaks caught that morning. The tropical fruits were all locally sourced and the cocktails were sublime.
The family rooms in block A need a spruce up. A bit dated. No head boards so yr pillow is against a solid wall. Pillow need changing many had stains on it and the room smelt damp and so were the pillows and blankets. Although this is a standard room things can be changed to make it better.Photos of hotel donot compare to what you get. If you after budget accommodation then this is okay.
Island night dinner and show. Good: excellent buffet, best on the island, lots of variety both mains and desserts. The show was outstanding, authentic and highly talented drummers and dancers. Bad: no free water, $7 a bottle. The stage is not very high so those at the back could not see all of the performers. Ugly: the credit card surcharge of 3.5%. Yes they are allowed and it is posted on the till. Maybe the warning sign should be as you enter the building so you can make your choice before you commit.
