We stayed at Aromas on Sunset in October 2008. We chose Aromas as we were attending a wedding at The Edgewater Resort (which is just 200m down the beach) but wanted our own space for our holiday. I found the villa on the website www.rentraro.com which has lots of great self catering accommodation options. There is also a separate website www.aromas-on-sunset.com (See both websites for more pictures, including interior photos). Booking was really straight forward and Eddie was a pleasure to deal with.
We travelled from the airport to Aromas via a private transfer, but if you're travelling light (and not arriving in the middle of the night) you can easily get there by bus. Aromas is about 10 minutes from the airport and its bus stop is Albertos Steak House. Aromas is located between Black Rock and the Edgewater resort, on a nice strip of beach with great snorkeling / swimming out the front.
There are two beach houses at Aromas on Sunset - side by side, and an unused house at the rear which has an outdoor covered laundry that you can use. We stayed in 'Aromas 1' which has a more direct view of the beach, however 'Aromas 2' has slightly nicer furnishing and a bit more shade from the hot sun. We went through The Edgewater to view our friends' rooms and were quietly pleased that we had booked Aromas - so much nicer and at a fraction of the price!! Great things include your own terrace where you can relax and enjoy the view, the beach within sight of your bed, a full size fridge to stock with market food and duty free drinks and of course the space of having separate bedroom, bathroom and lounge/dining room/kitchen.
As for the beach - right out front and perfect! We swam and snorkelled from the moment we woke up. Beautiful white sand and crystal clear water, complete with colourful fish to check out. We absolutely loved Aromas - so private and right on the beach...yet you have The Edgewater within strolling distance along the beach for meals and cocktails. Numerous other resorts including Sunset and Crown are also within walking distance.
We can't recommed it more - we LOVED Aromas!! :)

Our second stay at Aromas - something we ordinarily do not do, as it is so exciting discovering new places.
The location is great - step off the patio, and a few steps across the lawn to the beach. Whilst the lagoon is rocky, there are sandy spots for swimming, located right in front of the property! The rocks come in handy, too, as the tropical fish are plentiful for snorkellng. Not that one has to - at low tide one can wade around and observe the fish from above.
The sunsets are spectacular, as are the stars at night!
The bungalow is well kept, clean and comfortable. The kitchen has all one requires (apart from a conventional oven). The fridge is huge, so one can store sufficient goodies so as to not having to shop too often. It pays to get fresh veggies and fruit from the market Saturday mornings, but otherwise one can find most things at the grocery store - we prefer CITC on the outskirts of town. Limited groceries, and "liquid refreshments" are sold by shops within walking distance. A number of restaurants are also within easy walking distance.
The bus service circling the island is convenient, so we no longer bother renting a car.
Well worth returning to....

Aromas on sunset is a great self catering accommodation. It is nice furnished and clean. We stayed at aromas on sunset2 in October 2011as we booked this villa through www.rentraro.com with Eddie, he was good helping us with anything and arranged return transfer from the airport to the villa. We love the beach which is in front of the villa, white sand, crystal clear water with many fish, a lot of hermit crabs, blue star fish and friendly dogs

We have just returned from an amazing 12 night stay at Aromas On Sunset. This was our second visit to Rarotonga...our first time we stayed in a resort which was awesome for finding our feet when we didn't know our way around or how things worked. This trip we decided to try self catering accommodation. Initially some of us were hesitant but all our concerns were gone very quickly. Aromas is perfect for 2 couples like us who wanted to be together and have their own space as well. We were pleasantly surprised to find many extras not listed on the website. Eg.....a safe, ceiling fan and free standing fan, all the linen, towels etc you would ever need and even washing powder!! We had the pleasure of meeting Eddie and found him to be extremely professional, friendly and helpful with our multiple questions. We loved our stay at Aromas 1 & 2 and penciled in our next stay before we left. The property is private, peaceful, right on the beach and absolutely perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sun...there is also 3 restaurants, a shop where you can get milk etc, a liquor store, an awesome burger bar and amazing bakery within a couple of minutes walk.
