We had a beautiful midweek break as a family of four in the stargazer lodge.

The lodge was well thought out, facilities were brilliant and it was spotlessly clean. We used the hot tub and really appreciated the toiletries that were left.

We stayed with a small child and a newborn and this lodge was probably a little tight space-wise for the extra kit needed for two small kids (bedside cot etc). And so wouldn’t hesitate to pay the slight extra next time for the larger 2 bed lodge (these appear to be nearly double the square footage and definitely worth the extra).

This being said it was a joy to wake for midnight for feeds and see the stars through the stargazer windows.

The location of the site is fantastic, with literally tens of beautiful footpaths and country walks from your front door. The town of ellesmere is small but beautiful and has plenty of shops/cafes/restaurants and pubs. You can even hire a day canal boat and sail for a few hours on the adjacent canal.

We would certainly return to stay in the future and nothing would put us off.

The lodge was first class and high spec!, the best I've stayed in and we regularly use lodges as we have a dog. The lodges are luxurious- super king bed, modern furnishes with special touches- coffee machine, Slippers and dressing gowns- often charged extra for these at other locations. There was a luxury hamper in the kitchen that even had dog treats- at other lodges this would come as an extra expense- really thoughtful. Bathrooms had really soft fluffy large towels so we had enough for the hot tub too, also noted high quality complimentary toiletries! At every sink there was hand soap - small thing but means we didn't have to buy our own. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything and more - abundant glasses of various types with ones suitable for use in the hot tub. Smart tv and good WiFi which meant we could log into Netflix but more importantly hook up our now box for the football! Attention to detail by the house keeping was impeccable. The local town was quaint and surrounding countryside had lots of walks and national trust sites.
Staff on site were polite, friendly and approachable -noted their presence and hardwork in clearing up after the storm .
I would highly recommend The Barnes as it was the best holiday to date with our dog
- our only issue is that we could not find a mop to clean up muddy paw prints but absolutely no other complaints at all! Fantastic stay thank you 💐

We had an excellent stay overall at the Barns. We stayed for one week in the Kingfisher lodge for our wedding anniversary. Angela called me the week before to confirm details and lodge set up and was helpful throughout our stay.

The lodge was lovely, with extras such as a welcome pack, robes and slippers which were great when using the hot tub. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The parking space next to the lodge is good.

The kitchen was nice, with a nespresso machine, wine cooler, good size fridge/freezer, utility area and gas hob and oven.

The steps to the door of the lodge are quite steep. I have a hip condition and would have found a handrail on the steps to the front door and the steps of the hot tub helpful.

The park is very peaceful and it was lovely to relax in the hot tub. We did encounter an issue whilst staying at the Barns and it was promptly resolved. All the staff we encountered whilst on site were friendly and said hello,

The only reason we have not given it 5* overall is that the lodge could have been cleaner. We found long hairs in the en-suite shower, the kettle needed descaling, the oven wasn't clean and the dishwasher had run out of salt. We ended up buying products to clean the oven and some dishwasher salt. It would be helpful if there was some cleaning spray and a drainer in the kitchen, along with some coasters and table mats. The wifi was a little slow but we managed. We had taken my DVD player in case of issues with wifi so it was great a HDMI cable was available on the TV to plug it in as a back up.

We had a few days out in Shrewsbury, Llangollen and Oswestry so plenty to see and do nearby. Ellesmere is a lovely

Overall we had a good stay at the Barns and would return.

We had the best time. The accommodation was by far the best we have ever stayed. We were touched by the kind gestures of Tea, coffee, milk, boardgames and even a dog bowl provided for our dog.
The accommodation was clean and very welcoming.
The hottub was tested and checked every morning by a lovely lady (didn't get her name)

We will highly recommend to friends and family

We have just returned from a weeks stay at these fabulous lodges. The pictures do not do them justice. On arrival you drive down a gravel road which is raked on a regular basis.
We were left a box of luxurious goodies including biscuits, crisps, chocolates, coffe pods, tea bags and milk which was very much appreciated. They even left a card for my dad as he was celebrating a birthday whilst there.
The lodges are fitted to a very high spec including a dishwasher, large fridge freezer, wine fridge and washer/dryer. The outside is as nice as the inside with quality garden furniture, a very comfortable egg chair and a large hot. The setting is perfect on the edge of the canal and well signposted for some lovely walks to the mere or the town centre. Tescos and the centre is only a 5 minute walk away which is very handy. The centre has everything you want, various pubs, takeaways and shops. We had a meal at The RedLion which was very nice.
We had such a good time that we re-booked for another week as soon as we returned.
A big thank you to Angela who was very accommodating and always at the end of the phone if you need anything and to Nick who we had some lovely chats with when he was maintaining the hot tub.
If you want a luxurious lodge in a beautiful, peaceful setting book here. You won't be disappointed.

We have stayed at various lodges and hot tub breaks across the UK and can honestly say that this is genuinely the best. The finish on the property and details are impeccable, there aren't many, if at all, other locations that can compare.
We stayed in a 3 bedroom lodge and even before we arrived, the communication from Angela was great. All my questions were answered. We found the lodge to be modern, spacious and extremely clean. The additions of a washing machine and dryer was so helpful with our family of 5. The hot tub was checked daily and I saw them cleaning and draining them if needed. Beds and bedding were clean and very comfortable, the extra towels and hot tub towels were great. The welcome basket with snacks was so lovely, our kids loved it (so did we) and the board games were a lovely addition which we had fun playing in the evenings.
We spent most of our week relaxing in the lodge and hot tub but did venture out and had a little walk around which was lovely. Everything was so local so we were able to get everything we needed within a few minutes drive.
Overall, we had an amazing break here and would definitely recommend. Hopefully we will return soon as I don't think we would be able to visit another destination if we are considering a UK break, the bar is now set very high!

Well appointed modern lodges set in landscaped grounds close to Ellesmere centre the mere and canal. Lots of pleasant walks directly from the site, in fact our car didn’t move for our stay. Can’t fault the lodge or the welcome pack plus everything you need such as condiments, laundry and dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, hand wash, shower gel and shampoo are provided. Towels, slippers and dressing gowns too. Lovely staff eager for you to enjoy your stay. There isn’t a shop on site but Tesco is only short walk down the canal.

We stayed in Kingfisher Lodge. The team have done their best to provide privacy around the hot tubs which will improve as planting becomes established, I dared to use the hot tub bare, as you should, but despite being discrete politely got asked to cover up on our last day.

The lodges have fabulous outdoor furniture and a fire pit; however our cushions had been left out and were wet. There is a small enclosed area at the side of each lodge for dog exercise but sadly the deck/garden area is not enclosed so pooch has to be on a lead while you are relaxing in the sunshine. One other design oddity, the hot tub is surrounded by gravel and there isn’t anyway you can slip off your shoes and get into the tub without standing on the gravel.

Would we stay here again, absolutely, it’s a yes from us 👍

Ideal for a family trip, even the dog enjoyed it. The lodges are excellent, well equipped and warm, Ellesmere is 10 minutes walk away as is lake Mere, there are lots of walks around and the canal is right next to the site. Activities around the area are at a premium, so for families looking to entertain the kids it can be challenging but the Aqueduct is 20 minute drive which is well worth doing, hoping to canoe over it nexta time. All in all would highly recommend.

Stayed within Taurus, the Stargazer barn, along with our two Border Collies.
Location is great, close to amenities 10 - 20 mins stroll, with easy access to nearby supermarket, canal walks and the Mere.
Access to Snowdon was an hour and a half, a pleasant drive for those considering the journey.
Accommodation was modern, clean, private and inviting, with a welcome pack provided on arrival.
Open planned living room / Kitchen / dining area was a little snug with two large dogs, so recommend you bring along a few extra blankets to safeguard the sofa’s.
Access to a broom or hoover to clear up the dog hair would have been appreciated.
That said, the two bedrooms with en-suites, provided a calming sanctuary to retreat to. Bed was extremely comfortable😴
Outside affords an array of outdoors living which would be fantastic in the warmer, drier months, fit out, BBQ, sun loungers, dining area etc.. but due to outside temp, we made do with the hot tub, which was incredibly inviting after a days trekking with the dogs. Basking within, lying back, clear skies afforded uninterrupted views of the stars.
Would we recommend or stay again “YES”
