Detailed Reviews
We stayed in Longs Peak campground for three nights. It was one of the nicest campgrounds I have stayed in; the campers were so quiet (probably because all of them were there to hike, many starting Longs Peak the next morning). Unfortunately, it adjoins a youth camp called Timberline. I don't know how the NPS ever got into this arrangement, but all vehicles to Timberline go through Longs Peak campground. Worse, the theme of the camp seems SCREAMING. The counselors scream as the other counselors arrive, they scream as each camper arrives, they play loud music at night and the campers SCREAM. It is unknown why this is necessary, but it ruined what would have been a perfect camping experience at Longs Peak.

We could not get a backcountry spot in time at Goblins Forest on the Peak to Chasm Lake in the Longs peak area of RMNP. We tried to go to this campground instead. There aren't many spot and they are small and cramped - first come first served! We were there by 830 and still missed it. Only 2 ppl were leaving that morning and others aggressively got those spots before we could.
I would recommend Goblins Forest to camp if you don't mind hiking 1.2 miles in. More secluded but also has to be booked early through backcountry office at the beaver meadows visitor center the morning of or at least 4 days before online. Both of these areas can be under snow prior to mid late June also so call to check. There are other backcountry sites in the area also but you have to pack further.
Don't forget elevation when even camping at this level. I ended up with some elevation sickness hiking to the 12k ft chasm lake and would not have been able to easily camp at this 10k elevation of the Longs peak campground after that. But certainly beautiful and really up in the park so do one of these sites if you 1) plan ahead and 2) are suited to altitude!!

SCREAMING kids, a BLARING P.A. system, and delivery trucks in the immediately-adjacent private Camp Timberline have, so sadly, wrecked what used to be the best campground in the Park. If you read this review and still decide to stay here during a month when Camp Timberline is open, then you have only yourself to blame ...
