Bright Angel Lodge, designed in 1935 by famed Southwest architect Mary E.J. Colter, has a natural rustic character and is a Registered National Historic Landmark. This iconic lodge and its surrounding cabins are rich with cultural history. Under the direction of the Santa Fe Railroad, Colter was tasked to design a fresh look for Bright Angel Lodge in an effort to provide more moderately priced lodging in contrast to El Tovar “up the hill.” She drew inspirations from many local sources in her architecture. Today, the Bright Angel Lodge and surrounding cabins serves as an iconic remembrance of its colorful past. Located at the top of Bright Angel Trail Head, the facility sees visitors from all around the world. Bright Angel Lodge also features The Harvey House Café, a family-friendly restaurant serving diner classics prepared in the Fred Harvey tradition from biscuits & gravy to gourmet burgers and fajitas. The Harvey House is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Nestled close to the Grand Canyon, Bright Angel Lodge And Cabins is lauded for its prime location which many travelers feel compensates for the cost, even when some quarters view the accommodations as basic. Guests have called out the property's cleanliness and rustic charm, although a few note the rooms can be on the smaller side.
The service receives appreciation for its attentiveness, with some exceptions in housekeeping efficiency. While amenities like coffee makers and fridges are welcomed, the limited modern comforts and small bathrooms are points of critique.

Thanks to other reviews, we knew we were going to a rustic cabin steps from the South Rim and that parking was limited and that there was no air conditioning. None of those things were a problem for us.
Thankfully we got Cabin 6178, which at first didn't seem so good because it faced a busier access road, but it turned out great because none of our cabin walls were adjacent to anyone else, limiting noise and giving us windows and airflow on all 4 sides. It also was incredibly close to the Rim Trail and view of the Grand Canyon, day or night. Though it was warmer than usual during our October stay, the fans and open windows circulated the air nicely and we slept great.
All the room amenities are what you would expect in any luxury hotel, except for the bathroom. It was very small but quaint. The shower is extremely small, there's only one tiny glass shelf for your belongings, and the towels are very thin. It wasn't a huge problem to us, and what we expected.
We stayed two nights, and housekeeping did not come to refresh towels between those two nights. Not sure if they typically do or not. Thankfully we had enough towels, and between the dry air and the thin towels, they dry fast.
I did wish for a humidifier while there, since the humidity was 21% and I had a tough time getting used to that. The past two places we'd stayed provided humidifiers, but Bright Angel did not (I went to desk to request).
Harvey House Cafe was great for breakfast and dinner, delicious and reasonably priced. The staff remembered our seating preference and took us to the same table for every meal! One morning we made reservations to go to El Tovar Dining Room for breakfast, which was a nice treat.
It was such a treat getting to walk along the Grand Canyon rim any time of the day or night, even just for a few minutes. We went out late at night to look at the stars, but sadly there was still too much light pollution between light poles and tourists with cell phone flashlights.
Price point was cheaper than anything in nearby towns, and what a fabulous location! We initially were only able to get one night booked, but kept checking the website for openings on the second night and it finally came through so I called to link the two reservations. Nice system in that you can cancel up to a few days beforehand, allowing you to reserve your second choice until your first choice opens up.
We lucked out on parking, finding a spot closer to the rim than our cabin. We never moved the car while there then! Seeing the line of cars coming to the south entrance when we departed made us super thankful that we stayed in the park.
Would stay here again, gladly!

Location, location, location! My husband and I stayed in a Bright Angel Lodge cabin with bathroom with a view of the canyon right from the door. Bucket list! The cabin does not have air conditioning so we had to be very purposeful to keep everything closed during the day and then open everything up at night plus keep the fans going. The room and linens were very clean but I was a little put off by their bagless wastebaskets in the room, especially for bathroom garbage :S. There is no housekeeping services unless requested so be proactive if you want fresh towels, garbage removal and the like. Parking, for the hotel/cabins, is not reserved or assigned so a lot of people parked in the hotel area who were hiking the canyon day trail below. We arrived later in the evening so there were plenty of spaces but if you arrive between late morning and mid afternoon, it could be a struggle. We saw many people go get their vehicles and bring them closer to their cabin later in the evenings. The bus stop for the shuttle that goes along the rim, and around the village, is just down from the cabins and is close enough even for those with some mobility issues. The main lodge has a restaurant and cocktail lounge as well as a well appointed gift shop. Overall, you're paying for the location but it was well worth it for this Canadian couple!

We were here in the late summer of 2023. The check-in was quick and friendly. There is a store connected and on the premises 3 restaurants, the Harvey House Café, Fred Harvey Tavern and the Arizona Steakhouse, plus snacks in the Bright Angel Fountain. We had a cabin with Rim View (6147), booked a year before as soon as the booking window was open. No specific cabins are guaranteed. It is important to know that there are no reserved parking spaces for the hotel, the parking spaces are open to all visitors. So far, however, we have always been lucky and a place relatively close to our cabins. The cabin was newly renovated, tasteful with 2 armchairs from which you could always enjoy the beautiful view outside in the evening. There was a ceiling fan and a TV (not used). We had 2 doors, one from the parking lot and one from the Rim, so we could walk directly to the door in the morning with our coffee from the coffeemaker in the room. A small fridge was also available. Our cabin had a private bathroom and a queen size bed. To my delight also an ironing board and an iron! It was not free-standing but in line with others. At night we had it quiet. The location is particularly nice, right on the South Rim. On foot you can reach both the Bright Angel Trail and the Rim Trail and the shuttle buses. We've already done everything three and each has its charm. Our preferred hotel on the South Rim.

We stayed 1 night at Bright Angel Lodge (in a cabin), and 1 night at Thunderbird Lodge. There was ~$100 difference per night between the two (Bright Angel less $$). We stayed in one of the Bright Angel cabins (Feb 2025) - it had all typical amenities: TV, fridge, hairdryer, coffee/tea maker, safe, a space heater, a radiator/built-in heating in the room. (No AC, but we didn't need.) The room was great/fine - clean, had what we needed. Only 1 Q bed but that was fine w us - it did have a full bathroom w shower/bathtub. Bed was comfy, pillow was too thick. Location was stellar. Our cabin wasn't right next to the Grand Canyon rim, but some of the Bright Angel rooms were, and the Lodge/Lobby was. (And it was only ~1min walk from our cabin to the rim.) Reception staff were lovely and extremely helpful. They were kind enough to move our bags from one hotel to the next so we didn't have to schlep the additional distance ourselves. (Check in for Thunderbird Lodge is at Bright Angel Lobby.) Was *absolutely* worth the money to stay AT the Canyon rim compared to sites not right on the rim. We did not have a car, but could do everything walking + GC blue Shuttle bus. Difference between Thunderbird and Bright Angel: $100/night in price, Thunderbird (non-canyon-view) room slightly larger and had an extra Q bed, Thunderbird had AC (we didn't need), maybe a few steps closer to the canyon. Overall would say NOT worth extra $100 difference between Bright Angel and Thunderbird -- they were extremely similar experiences for the 2 of us. And both overall great experiences! I cannot wait to go back!

For reservations in high season, bookings a year in advance are recommended, especially when you want to have a room with private shower. It is a nice place to stay. The location can't be better, the service is very welcoming (thanks Christine in the bar, people at the reception desk, waiters in the restaurant). We could make our own coffee and tea in the room. Despite the fact there is a lack of staff in general (the restaurant had to close one day because of this problem), we enjoyed our stay. The shop is nice, too, I bought clothes there.

We loved our stay at Bright Angel Lodge! We traveled on a girls trip to hike Rim to Rim and stayed at Bright Angel the first night we arrived so we could head down Bright Angel trail quickly in the morning. The room was small, but just fine for the two of us. There was a small fan on the bedside table that was great. It was chilly, but not bad. The beds were comfortable and we had a bathroom in our room, unlike some others in that building who had no bathroom and used the community one in the hallway. The lodge itself was gorgeous! It had small cabins as well around it to stay in. Ask for a room facing the back of the building, you might get a view of the canyon. We got a view of the building next to us, but it was okay. They have a large gift store in there that had a variety of things and a restaurant. We’d both definitely stay again if we make it back to the canyon. 🥾⛰

The lodge overlooks the south rim so you cannot beat the location for the price. Stunning sunrises steps away from the lodge along with beautiful sunsets and an awesome view of the stars. Paths are unleveled and few handicap spots. We had to park in the main parking lot because there were no spots close to our lodge. We had to walk with our luggage over several curbs and up steps. If there is a ramp, we could not find it. I recommended pulling up to your building to unload your luggage then go find a parking spot. The room is small but clean. The bed is firmer than I prefer. The shower was quite an experience. First of all, it is a claw foot bathtub. Cool concept but hard and almost unsafe to use the tub is higher than normal making it a big step in to a slippery tub/shower with no handrails, anywhere. The water goes from scolding hot to ice cold in waves. Not sure why. My husband was unable to shower because of the lack of stability. It’s a cute lodge but the location is what makes it worth it.

The Bright Angle Lodge was an excellent affordable option to spend the night at the Grand Canyon National Park. We had a room with just a sink and toilet, very clean showers and baths were available down the hall. Room very very clean and comfortable.

Bright Angel is wonderfully rustic and fits right in with the Grand Canyon. Although the cabins could use a bit of a refurb, that did not detract from our stay at all. The location cannot be beat - right on the canyon rim with direct access to the rim trail. The restaurants are excellent.

Bucky Lodge adjoins Bright Angel Lodge and had hiker rooms with shared baths. I was nervous about this lodging and the bathroom situation. The room was immaculate and had obviously been updated. It had a small sink and mirror which was great to teeth and hair. Room had a 3 foot upholstered bench at end of bed, 3 drawer dresser and another cabinet with small frig and top had ice bucket and small coffee service. Bathrooms were just a couple doors down with great locks and do not disturb for door handles. Always available and very clean. Best part is all the rooms just steps to the rim with no buildings between lodge and rim trail. So easy to po I to bright angel for food or gift shop. It was pure magic! Did I mention cheapest room of ALL in park Grand Canyon Lodging.

Keep in mind that rates are set by the National Park Service. When booking a National Parks hotel, it is best to book directly with the official concessionaire. In this case, you need to book with Xanterra, as they are officially appointed. They actually operate all the hotels in the Grand Canyon. If there are issues, you are dealing directly with the National Park Service's official concessionaire.
We stayed in a lodge room, only coffee maker & fridge. If you look on official Xanterra Grand Canyon website, it tells you what each type of rooms have, some only communal bathing facilities, so book wisely!

You'll only pay at the entrance gate - the $20 car fee, if you're driving. Within the park and at the hotel, parking is free.
Not to complicate this answer, but if you happen to be over 62, as I am, you can instead pay the same $20 for an "annual pass", good for Grand Canyon and many others. It is cumulative, so if you do this 4 times (each good for a year), you will never have to pay again (and it also covers your companions traveling with you in your vehicle). You can buy it when you arrive at any national park gate.
There are more places to choose from in the Grand Canyon National Park area.
