Nestled in Naseby, the ‘jewel’ of the dramatic Maniototo, The Old Doctor’s Residence will provide you with a peaceful retreat or a base for action-packed adventures. Our historic home started as a gold miner’s cottage in the 1870s before developing into the town’s Doctors home & surgery over the years, then sensitively restored into a luxury bed and breakfast located in the historic precinct of Naseby, Central Otago. The guest wing offers privacy, with two elegant and tastefully decorated suites, furnished with antique furniture & contemporary New Zealand works of art. There is a reading room & guest lounge with a log fire, for your comfort & relaxation. A short stroll takes you to many historic sites & eating places in and around the Naseby village. You will receive homemade baking, Tia Ora teas & Nespresso coffee & a hearty fresh breakfast served from our country style kitchen. Take a relaxing break when cycling the Otago Central Rail Trail, explore this unique part of New Zealand.

We loved our time at the drs residence. Angela greeted us on arrival with a lovely afternoon tea. we were 2 couples so had the whole house to ourselves. lovely touches throughout the home, including fresh flowers and chocolates in the bedrooms. Angela was an excellent host, returning in the morning to cook us a yummy breakfast. Its worth getting off the rail trail to explore Naseby, have a go at curling and stay at the Drs Residence. Thanks Angela :)

We were fortunate to stay a night in this beautiful house on the second night of cycling the rail trail. We were welcomed by the manager Raylene with a lavish high tea and tales of Naseby and the home’s history. There are two guest suites so we had the house to ourselves overnight. This included the lounge with its wonderful artwork and fireplace. Our four-room suite was old-world charm with modern luxury. It was a 5-star experience.

Loved this cottage. Beautifully presented and furnished, our very friendly host Angela was there to greet us with afternoon tea then returned the next day to cook us a delicious breakfast. Spacious, comfortable, stylish couldn’t ask for a better place and wished we could have stayed longer. Would highly recommend.

Lovely accommodation and old home with lots of historical appeal. Host Raywyn is a delight and will give you a complete run down on the house and Naseby and a very satisfying breakfast. Naseby is an interesting turn of the 19th century village with the only curling rink in the southern hemisphere and a selection of beautiful walks for the active. Had great meals at the Royal Hotel in Naseby and a wonderful meal at the 150 year old Dansey's Pass Coach Inn.

Our second night accom on the Otago Rail Trail. To get from the trail, you need to transfer from Wedderburn - but Naseby Transfers make this all too easy. The Old Dr’s residence is a charmin old home, that pays homage to it’s past, without being overly twee. We were met by Raylene on arrival, who promptly dished up a delicious afternoon tea and gave us a run down on the town and it’s history. This is not your budget backpacker kind of place, but rather a tasteful and well set up house. We stayed in a a room at the back of the house that was originally the old dairy - THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED I’ve slept in for a while, with quality linen made for a sound night’s sleep. As with many of the towns in this part of the world, there are not a huge number of options for eating out - we ate at the Royal Hotel, which had a lovely feel and served up a good steak. Breakfast at the Old Dr’s Residence is a very generous spread, with a basic continental and a selection of hot dishes to choose from - all cooked fresh. It was great to come back to the house after dinner and sit in the lounge and chat to the other guests, and have the room to spread out. If you are in this part of the world - I would not hesitate to recommend The Old Dr’s Residence

We stayed at The Old Doctor's Residence for one night when we were cycling the OCRT and now wish that we had organised our itinerary to stay longer. The old home has lots of old world charm and we were accommodated in a very comfortable bedroom. The shower and bathroom facilities were first rate. Our wonderful host Angela looked provided us with a lovely afternoon tea on our arrival and a wonderful breakfast the next day. I might also add that Angela went above and beyond the call of duty to help when we inadvertently separated ourselves from our luggage. We highly recommend The Old Doctor's Residence!
