We enjoyed our stay at this lodge’s sister lodge at Arthur’s Pass very much, but we were blown away by our stay at this lodge, and all because of Gerry. He is SO knowledgeable, passionate, witty and hilarious…. We feel privileged to have spent this time with him. What Anne and Gerry have done for the preservation of this land,...

Don't come here if you want to watch TV or use the internet. Do come here if you want to spend time in one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand exploring the area and learning from the lodge's owner who is a passionate environmentalist. The lodge sits right on beautiful Lake Moeraki. Tracks through the rainforest or to...

The nice things are the location and sincere hospitality of the couple running the lodge. They even provide you with printed information on your onward journey. The drawbacks, admittedly part of the nature here, are the sand flies, which are plentiful and the rain, which is ample due to prevailing westerly winds. A friend, with whom we were travelling, wanted...

Amazing! We came in September for a quick two night stay and learned so much! The first is no TV is a great thing; there is so much to do outside there is no need, if it's raining there are games and books in your room and there is always the lounge to visit with others. The owners are so...

We stayed two nights. The staff was friendly, atmosphere relaxing, and lodging comfortable. The Internet is bad, but we could usually get Internet service in the lodge's living room. We took the evening walk with the host to see the glow worms, an short afternoon walk in the woods with the host, but the highlight was the four hour walk...

I liked this hotel. The self-guided walking tours are excellent with the guides explaining things quite well. Enjoyed a free walk with Gerry to see him feed the eels. The 4h paid walk to the beach was interesting, great views, fun walk through the creek and rain forest that I wouldn't otherwise have done, but it truly was a little...

This was my favorite place out of many on our trip. The rooms were very light-filled, large, clean, simply and elegantly appointed, with very comfortable beds. Homemade cookies and fruit were a very nice touch. The lodge building has several rooms for relaxing with welcoming fires, and a very interesting history. Go on the giant eel walk and if you...

We had 2 nights a the lodge. Very simple, but elegant. We had fun taking the complimentary activities and kayaking. This is a very restful place with beautiful grounds. This is our third trip to this lodge. Expensive, but when you start realizing that much of the cost goes to keep up the grounds and rainforests around the lodge, you...

Had three nights in the lodge. Took part in all the complementary activities, and paid for the excursion to see the crested fjordland penguins. Enjoyed all of the activities. We also followed all of the self-guided trails. The forest walks gave a flavour of what New Zealand was like before the forest was cleared or the large trees felled for...
