So many positives about this hotel, including the beautiful Japanese-style modern decor, good breakfast, thoughtful staff, free tea tasting and a convenient location. Overall the hotel is great value.
Unfortunately I have to deduct one star because of the overly hard mattress! I'm really surprised no one else seems to have mentioned this in the previous comments as this was by far the hardest hotel mattress I have ever slept on. I had previously being staying in tradition Japanese inn accomodation with thin futons on the floor for over a week while walking the Nakasendo trail and they were all fine for me. Such a shame as the 1899 hotel is fab but this issue will stop me from returning in the future unfortunately.
I was also disappointed by the use of disposable cups and utensils in the restaurant during breakfast. I ended up bringing along my own glass cup from the room to try and minimise the amount of one-use rubbish.

Actually, we provide softer pad under the bed sheets to our guests when our mattress doesn't suit them. We regret that we could not suggest and provide it to you during your stay. Also we are really sorry that we made you disappointed due to our plastic cups at the breakfast restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this fantastic hotel and would highly recommend. The room was incredible clean, comfortable and well made up, and the service from everyone we came across was very efficient and helpful. Breakfast is delicious and well worth the money. The location is excellent - peaceful yet close to a number of restaurants and stations with great links around the city. The hotel were also very accommodating of our extremely late night check in after a late landing which we really appreciated.

We stay a week here and our experience was excellent. Room is very clean and you can try decent green tea at reception. You have to try it. We had breakfast twice and they are all delicious. The location is good too 5 minutes walk from Shinbashi station and you can access Ginza easily.

The hotel provides a clean and decent sized room lovely extras such as headbands, hairbrush, skin cleaning kit etc. The staff are lovely and although the café downstairs has a limited menu the food is tasty. Where this hotel falls down is the bed and pillows, the bed is rock hard, the floor might actually be softer, as for the pillows they are completely flat, 3 pillows easily fitted into 1 pillow case. I would happily have given 4 stars if it wasn’t for this. Nothing worse than struggling to sleep whilst on holiday and waking up tired.

We stayed at the beginning of a 3 1/2 week holiday in Japan and liked it so much we rebooked it for the end of our stay. The rooms are clean, well appointed (we had a view of Tokyo Tower ) with lovely toiletries. The breakfast is delicious (particularly loved the green tea loafs). The hotel is tea themed and offers a house tea service 3-10 which is charming and very relaxing.

This was my favorite hotel out of the four places I stayed during my Japan trip. The room was clean, well-designed, and more spacious than my other hotels. The free matcha service was wonderful and the (purchased) breakfast buffet was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's very close to a restaurant and shopping corridor which is great for food exploration, although it was about a 12 minute walk to the train stations. It was also a short subway ride to Tsukiji Fish market which was fun to explore early in the morning--lots of fresh food booths and good for souvenir shopping.

Cozy and minimalist, with plenty of amenities (my mother-in-law was delighted by the fact that they even provide hairbands and a small face washing set. So delighted). A calming and sunny tea room on the second floor where we further delighted at the books and mini towels on display. Everything was designed thoughtfully, and the staff were patient and kind.

love this hotel the zen look and feel also the reception can speak english make things easy. also the room was spacious in city area compared to others . i am not a fan of hard pillow and this hotel provided a semi hard and soft comfortable pillow which make me have a good sleep. highly recommend this hotel !

Due to pandemic etc. we have been waiting for our trip to Japan for years. Imagine our excitement when we finally got on the plane. Hotel 1899 Tokyo was our first stop in Japan, so it set the tone for our long anticipated adventure. And it didn’t disappoint. Everything is wonderful about this hotel: the location, the small but excellently designed rooms, the incredibly tasty breakfast (so, so good!), the tea. But the cherry on top was the staff: they went out of their way to be helpful, even going so far as to driving to FedEx to pick up a letter to me that accidentally hadn’t been delivered. We loved this hotel and recommend it unequivocally.

I am so happy that we went with this hotel! Everything was amazing. Would recommend the upgrade to the corner suite as our view was incredible. Free matcha every day, the maid service was impeccable and everything was refreshed and cleaned well every day.
Location wise we were around a 10 minute walk from shinbashi station which worked well for us. It’s in a quieter area but we prefer that and easily accessible to other parts of Tokyo.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough!! Loved it and we would return. Thanks for a brilliant stay.
