We stayed for several days while on a wine tour. We have been all over the world for wine, from Washington State in the US to the tip of Tasmania. We have traveled with family as well. Il Boscareto is the best place we have ever had the pleasure to be. It is sublime. The room, the staff, the restaurant, the service. Perfection.

We found this immaculate resort by accident while staying at another hotel in Serralunga .
I will begin by saying WOW,INCREDIBLE,GORGEOUS ,This place had it all.
The Manager Erika, was amazing. She showed us the resort, with spa , indoor pool etc
And then the ROOMS. We were sold hook, line and sinker. Having stayed in several great nearby resorts over the past 3 years ,this took it ALL. The interior of the rooms
Magnificent ,comfy, amenities galore, modern ,beds so-o-o comfortable and lastly the greatest views ever. Erika upgraded us to Junior suite with large patio. We could see a panorama of the entire d'alba countryside . Hilltop towns with castles and church steeples in all directions plus vineyards as far as human eye can see. Most beautiful
Site EVER. Restaurant facilities were excellent .food and bar plentiful .
We will be returning next June with our entire family to celebrate our 40th.

We had a very nice suite with a terrace that had a great view overlooking the vineyards. We were quite lazy and never left the hotel for the 3 days that we were there. The grounds near the pool were nice, and there was always a place to find shade, to read and relax. The pool is fantastic. The breakfast was very good, but lunch and dinner were not. The lunches we ate were quite bland. The dinner did not seem of a Michelin level and we were very disappointed with them. The person who we discussed what wine to order (he did not seem to be a sommelier), did not have a good grasp of the wines on the menu. Because we prefer to eat at the hotel, and not to drive the windy roads of Piemonte at night especially after drinking a bottle of wine, we’re not sure if we would want to go back to Il Boscareto because of our disappointment with the dinners.

Totally out of context, blood red decor, no visible staff, virtually empty, felt like a convention hotel transplanted to the Italian countryside. Booked for two nights, left after one, so many great choices, why build this?

We made reservations to stay here a few months in advance. Unfortunately, we had to cancel three days before our expected arrival. When we called the property, we spoke with Erika and apologized that we would not be coming. She said that she would take care of the cancellation. We sent an email note to confirm our conversation. I was dismayed to find a charge for $756 on my cc which I disputed. I have since forwarded the email chain to Amex but Il Boscareto said that they had not received either a call or an email. A complete lie! I was standing there. I would be careful about booking at this property as they are neither honest nor good business people.

The situation of Il Boscareto, on a cliff overlooking the stunning, dramatic hills of Serralunga d'Alba cannot be beat. The spa, which is luxurious and accessible to guests for free, is also extremely attractive and well-kept. The rooms, however, and to a lesser extent, the common areas, leave a lot to be desired. The service, on the whole, was aloof and unconcerned with their guests' comfort.

The good part of Il Boscareto is the the wine country location with ample outdoor seating to take in the breathtaking view. However, the bar is barely staffed, and more than once, we had to duck our head into the office and ask for service. The common area adjacent to the lobby is decorated in an old world, too-formal style, that isn't particularly welcoming.

The rooms, likewise, are strangely decorated, which could be overlooked except that the Bang & Olufsen system of operating the TV and the lights required a Ph.D.-- or just plain didn't work. The selection of stations is dismal. The lights in my room kept coming on during the middle of the night. Even though I complained to the front desk, the engineer was at a loss as to what was happening, and when it happened again the next night, they finally moved me to another room at 2 am. But then, the TV didn't work in that room. Because it is next-to-impossible to sleep when you're constantly awakened by the glare of every light in the room coming on at once, I asked to be refunded the cost of that night--the manager was called and eventually acceded to my request, but not without first taking a haughty, scolding tone and making me feel like she was doing me a huge favor. What kind of service is this?

Il Boscareto appeals most, I think, to a weekender Milanese crowd that is seeking (the appearance of) luxury accommodations and a relaxing, spa getaway. Without excellent service and uncomplicated, working rooms, they're less appealing to tourists who are spending the day exploring, eating and drinking, and really just want comfortable, friendly accommodations to return to at the end of the day. I would look to stay elsewhere next time I'm in Piedmont.

We were looking to spend one night somewhere in the region en route from Austria to France and stayed at Il Boscareto. It was our third choice, the first two were full.
The situation is lovely and the views from the rooms are outstanding. The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable; we would not choose the design but that is a personal taste. They are very high tech with electronic controls for everything - fine once you have worked it out but complicated to begin with. There is a surprising lack of storage space in the way of shelves and drawers. If you were staying for a length of time I think this would be an issue. The television was Bang & Olufsen - very good quality but many of the advertised channels were not available.
The bathroom was fine but suffered from designer flair - the design being more important than the practicality. There was nowhere to hang bath towels after use and the shower enclosure in the bath looked great until you realised that if you actually closed it no normal sized person could move sufficiently to wash.
The pool is excellent, opening out onto the grassy terrace and the sauna and steam room area are good.
The breakfast is not at a standard one would expect from a hotel of this level. The choice is limited, not much in the way of fresh fruit, poor selection of breads, some very tired scrambled egg that had been congealing for quite some time - we were the first in the dining room for breakfast at nearly 9 am. The coffee is not freshly brewed but you get it yourself from an urn. This was an unsatisfactory start to the day.
Staff are pleasant and helpful but the modern building seems to lack soul or a sense of warmth.
One felt that the reason the hotel was a long way from being full in August was understandable.
This is an expensive hotel, our standard room was €280 for bed and breakfast, so it has to be judged on that basis, and I'm afraid it does not match up. However there is one reason to stay here which would mean we would come back - the restaurant La Rei is outstanding. This was one of the best meals we have had in a long time and is highly recommended. If everything else was to this standard it would be a great hotel.

A good cuisine, but not exceptional, and with a very short menu offer, in this fantastic period of truffa mushrooms. The special truffa menu is at 180 euros per person, and we chose à la carte service, 2 meals and a bottle of regional wine for 200 euros both. The service is not very high class, even if the waiters try to be. It is long, we have to hail them, ask them, they forget, and so on. And all that in a very formal environment.
The pasta with white truffa was absolutely marvelous, the main course, chicken also with a truffa salsa, was totally common and unoriginal.
I francky wouldn't recommend this restaurant if you go to the region, There are a lot more in the city of Alba and region, but it was the week end of the truffa fair and none have still free place. Be just wiser than we were. And find an alternative.

I don't know what to think about the hotel. I like the region very much for the view's, the wine and the food but hard to find a good hotel. Everything in the hotel is big, parking, reception, bar , rooms, restaurant , but nothing has a nice atmosphere. The best thin is the spa and fitness. The breakfast as in every Italian hotel is not what you expect of quality it's better than others in the region but ... . Still if you want to visit the Barolo wine houses and villages this if perfect located. There are plenty of very good restaurants in the neighborhood so you can forget about there gastronomic restaurant where they try to do special but it doesn't work. The climatisation in the room is a real disaster and also the wifi.

Dear Mr David, Thank you for spending some time to let us know about your experience with us. We are sorry if you experimented a unknown feeling so that you could not fully define your experience with us. Hope you do not mind if we take this opportunity to clarify some peculiarities of our Resort which is quite different from all others in the area. We agree that our Resort is very spacious and wide-opened on the surrounding landscape, infact it has been done with the purpose to create a modern similar "all-inclusive" resort in a countryside location therefore if guests do not wish to exit the Resort, they can comfortably enjoy a lots of service without moving like our SPA and pool, Bistrot and gourmet Restaurant and if they wish we organize activities on request. It might be that we have missed some further communication with you by guiding you through the services and we do apologize if the air conditioning system was not as you wished maybe on those days there was a temporary maintenance issue; regarding the wi-fi we are working on it to improve the connection signal. We do really hope that you will give us another opportunity and we will have the possibility to establish a better relationship. Sending you our warmest regards. Emilia-Il Boscareto Resort Team

My wife and I are staying here currently, and are both so underwhelmed that we decided to each write reviews individually during our stay.

We arrived from a Waldorf Astoria in Amsterdam where its 5 star rating is truly deserved. So far, Il Boscareto has disappointed and fizzled out in nearly all categories.

The positives: Nice large room (reserved a suite, so expected) but one that is dated. Beautiful, but vintage B&O sound system that still works with CD's without means to stream music. I know this because I have a similar vintage model which I bought in 1999. The Michelin rated La Rei Restaurant is as advertised with great service and a fabulous wine list. The spa treatment was wonderful, but with very scarce attendant presence.

The negatives: Completely non-existent service, both at the front desk and the main hotel bar/ restaurant. Dinner at this restaurant was close to horrible. 3 requests and a 25 minute wait for water which was finally delivered after I went up to the bar and asked to get it myself. The food service was slow, with only two servers available for the entire restaurant. Food was lukewarm and bland. The server even took away our salt & pepper grinders along with our salad dressing to the table next to us without saying a word. Just as surprised, our neighbors were nice enough to share these back with us.

When asking the front desk for nearby restaurant suggestions, we were told to look on, you guessed it, TripAdvisor!! They were kind enough to call restaurants that we specifically asked about, but gave zero input otherwise. Getting information about shipping wines to the US was a challenge.

Overall, the staff seems very uninspired about making any extra efforts to help set up plans and look up information. This is surprising given that they were actually spot on with helping us through email in the weeks prior to our visit.

I picked Il Boscareto based on it's amazing reviews. Unfortunately, our experience is far from what I expected. I realize that we are at the beginning of the summer holiday season, and many of the staff may be taking their own vacation, but that is not acceptable.

We will not only not return to this resort, but will also suggest our friends and colleagues stay elsewhere.

Dear Mr. Dimitri, Thank you for your review and for choosing us for your stay at our Resort, being you such an expert globetrotter. However, it was unexpected to us to read your Guest experience on which we have a different point of view that we would like to explain, as we care about our Guests’ opinion. It was a real pleasure for us talking with you at your arrival about your trip and it was nice from you to share with us your experience in Amsterdam! We appreciate guests who tell us their journeys and feelings and we remember being fascinated from your feedback on the Waldorf Astoria, without doubt a top class hotel! So we thank you for trying comparing our Resort to such amazing and luxurious hotels, like also for example the Castello di Casole, to whose high standards we also strive, but which are very different from us and our 5-star-offer (as you have remarked). We do not have as many concierges as they do, but anyway under this point of view we are proud of our well-prepared staff. Our Concierge desk is 24 h always available for guests requests and our staff is very experienced in suggesting Michelin starred Restaurant or simple Osterias at the point that we even know by heart most of the Restaurants of the area. We are sorry to say that, but we wouldn’t ever suggest to check on “TripAdvisor”, since our personal knowledge of the places goes beyond what a web site can tell and there is no point for us in telling you that. We do not deny that some of our guests use TripAdvisor as an help to choose among the variety of places we personally suggest in the area, but for sure it is their choice! The assistance we give before arrival through mails is exactly the same we give upon arrival and during our guests stay. Regarding the information about the Wine shipping, the colleague mentioned she gave you most of the information requested immediately, once you asked for it. Just regarding the charges it was not easy to answer immediately, since the shipping company does not have prices published. That’s why she wanted to come to you later to inform you about it (and since you were dining and it did not look like a urgent matter, she thought to wait for you to pass by Reception, which is located on the way to your room) and with pleasure she has then informed you about the rates. Moreover and honestly, we are just unable to find a good reason why during your holiday you would write a review on a website like TripAdvisor, which is not linked anyhow with the Resort, instead of speaking directly to the front desk who should be your point of contact and eventually the department in charge for receiving a complaint and give you the best assistance. Some of the colleagues also remember asking you many times how your stay was going on and you always answered that everything was fine. We are a little regretted, because we think that if you had immediately shared with us your disappointment, we could have solved together all the little issues you mentioned and you could have better enjoyed the rest of your stay! We apologize in any case, if the service at the Bistrot Sunsi Bar was not as fast and attentive as you expected, and also in this case, if reported, we could have done something for it, because we agree that what happened of course is not acceptable, even if the bistrot opiton is more simple and “laid back” . The entire staff works in all departments guided by the same principles to take care of our guests at its best. For us there is no vacation desire while working, because we love what we do and we wouldn’t like to be elsewhere than where we are. Anyway, we will be pleased to host you again in the future to let you change your opinion, indeed. Il Boscareto Resort Team
