Detailed Reviews
What a stunning place to spend a night or two. We were the only guests there and it was so serene. The walk down to the lake is lovely and the dinner they arrange for you to cook on the BBQ is good. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere which makes it extra special.

We had an amazing stay at this place. The setting is true NZ in all its glory. The hosts were warm and friendly and the accomdation top notch..
Truely relax or go and explore the stunning lake and garden. So much to do from shooting to water sports..
A little gem.

We recently stayed at Caniwi and it was a disasterous stay. In fact we had to leave after the first night.
Given it was the weekend of the big storm we arrived to find that the new owners were just moving in that day and were not organised.
We had no power and no breakfast as promised.
We left that morning after the owners left and did not arrive back for several hours.
I recommend that anyone considering staying there wait until a few reviews are posted under the new management.
The chalets are only a motel unit and nothing out of the ordinary, certainly not luxury as claimed.

We were looking for a couple of days of relaxation & found the perfect spot at Caniwi Lodge. Far enough from any town to truly appreciate the surroundings the chalet offered wonderful views of the countryside & river. Rooms were spacious & very well kept. If you are feeling fit, it's a nice walk down to the river for a spot of kayaking or alternatively stay back & watch a couple of DVD's from their extensive range (we did both).
The owners are great to chat to but at the same time will leave you to do your own thing which was much appreciated & make sure you order a couple of the freshly baked croissants for breakfast.

If you are looking for privacy but with all the mod-cons and the most breathtaking views this is the place for you.
We were amazed at the scenery and though the road in to the Lodge is a bit challenging (not good if arriving in the dark) it is well worth the trek...you wont be disappointed.
We intend to return
