The most striking attraction when you come across the Mungerannie Pub is the isolation and the remoteness of it. But that is what bought us here. It is, after all, half way along the Birdsville track. It is a must see. A most welcoming and accommodating staff, who also were part of the ownership group, were on hand to happily tend all needs. Not new to the hotel business, but certainly new-comers to Mungerannie, they happily went about providing first class service. Drinks were cold and plentiful, food was exceptionally good, accommodation was clean, comfortable and surprisingly affordable and air-conditioned. Some rooms with en-suites, others use clean, spacious communal showers and toilets. Fuel was available, a Telstra phone box - fully operational - was out the front door and camping areas provided. Thank you for your hospitality Tom, Al, and Darren. I can't imagine why any traveller touring along the Birdsville Track would not call in. I also can't imagine why they would not love their visit. Bravo.

Great pub with fantastic meals. A very surprising menu (slow cooked lamb ragout, beef cheeks, jambalaya to name a few). Lovely staff that make you feel very welcome. Definitely recommend staying here and enjoying the meals and hospitality!

The hotel was uunder new management and they had taken on a facility that had been neglected. The new staff made us totally welcome and treated us with kindneess, shared their dreams for renovating, and went out of the way to do small helpful things for us at no charge. REFRIGERATED OUR PERISHABLES AND COOKED SPECIAL DIET MEALS WHEN NEEDED I would love to go back and spend nore time with them

Great camping ground and even better hosts at the hotel. The new owners took over a few months ago and we had a great night chatting to Dazza at the bar. Dinner was amazing, lamb ragu and pork belly burgers.

A great break at approximate half way point on the Birdsville Track. Camped the night - great pub - and a tyre repair service - which we required. Amenities (including showers) were clean and in great condition.

Mungerannie roadhouse and hotel are a literal oasis on the stoney desert. The atmosphere in the pub is completely authentic and welcoming. The campsite is that perfect combination of well serviced and basic bush camping. They even have a decent tyre repair service which is absolutely necessary for the track

About 6 weeks ago I hit a bulldust hole along the Birdsville track about 80 kilometres from the Mungerannie Hotel. Once I got back up and put the motorbike back together I rode it, bent handlebars and all, to the Pub. There I met Phil who was quick to take control once he saw my condition. Long story short, later that night I was transported to Port August Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and allowed to leave the next morning, battered and bruised. I am writing this to advise anyone who visits the pub that they cannot go wrong with dropping in there. I stayed in one of the rooms for a while and it was clean and rather spacious compared to what you get elsewhere. The price is also reasonable. And while Phil looks a bit rough around the edges, it is all a facade. He is a nice gentleman who will look after you when you need it. I cannot speak more highly of him. GD

The Mungerannie hotel is one of a kind. Relaxed outback hospitality - Deb is lovely to chat with and shared some good tips and information for sites along the way. We enjoyed watching the 1954 movie of Tom Kruse the mailman which brings the Birdsville track to life. The meals were generous and tasty - schnitzels and salad. The drinks were cold. We had planned to enjoy a bit of a dip and the wetlands, but alas the bore had broken, the water diverted - so the wetlands and the swimming pool were dry. Possibly if we'd realised this on arrival, we would have pushed on. We booked a double ensuite for us and a twin-share (no ensuite) for our daughter next door. We might have been better booking the cheaper twin-shares for all of us, as the double bed is small, and pretty uncomfortable. The rooms are very clean as is the shared bathrooms / shower block. There is a share library that you can donate books to and borrow while you're there. It's a good campsite and ablutions with the characteristic bar and Phil and Deb's hospitality. The wetlands and the pool are what make it a little different, and without those, it lost a bit of the attraction.
