Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked April last year for four people and on arrival found that they did not have our booking and they were full. We produced paperwork confirming our booking so the person rang his boss who is in China. As we were travelling on motorbikes we asked them to help us find accommodation elsewhere but the man laughed at us over the phone and told us it was not his responsibility. We became aware from another accommodation provider in the same area that Motel 22 is now used as accommodation for homeless people and we have nothing against homeless people but it is not ideal. We have done many stays with this motel in the past years but will never stay there again.

Arrived with paperwork showing booking for 2 nights for 12 people, only to be told they had no booking for us. Apparently they have changed owners. Very disappointed that this happened. Best check your bookings folks.

Our family stay at Motel 22 was very pleasant. Beds were comfy and warm. Kitchen facilities had everything needed to self cater, bathroom facilities were clean and offered a shower and bath tub so, for a family of four we were comfortable. The cleaners did a great job every day. We stayed for one week and were so impressed because, they were thorough and unlike many motels we have stayed at before, when these cleaners left, you KNEW they've actually cleaned thoroughly. Well done to them! WIFI good and parking is free.

Body wash, shampoo & soap? 1/3 ain’t too bad, apart from the fact the soap appears to have been recycled from previous guests and repackaged. No Wi-Fi at all, they didn’t even offer it. Beds aren’t too uncomfortable but the bedding is dated and smells damp. Kitchenette is poorly furnished and old as the hills. Television reception, when actually available, is scratchy at best. Mouldy curtains, mouldy blinds. In desperate need of a paint also.

We had a largish studio unit in this motel that was nicely tucked away and extremely quiet. It was very clean and the staff were friendly. The unit was very old fashioned and had only been modernised in a few areas. The bathroom and kitchen were by a real blast from the past, with taps difficult to turn off and a shower that was almost impossible to work. We found the signs telling us what we would be fined for a little offensive.

It wasn't overly expensive, and wasn't overly clean, mould in the bathroom. Plenty of heaters to take the chill off the air. Good kitchen facilities. There are heaps of other places on the same road - I'll try another one next year.

I came to this motel through work. They had previously booked me a motel in Porirua, which turned out to be a disaster. Reading some [only some] of the reviews of this motel, I was expecting similar. However, apart from a glitch on arrival [power cut, so receptionist could not see that my company had already arranged to pay the bill], the ground floor room was spacious, well decorated, and with modern decor. Although the kitchen units were older, they were well maintained and clean. The bathroom had a separate toilet and there would have been plenty of room for 3 or even four guests. The area is quiet, but handy for the motorway to Wellington. The kitchen has two ring stove, and microwave. The unit is a little short on power points - or they are not in the most convenient place, but this is a minor complaint. As previously commented, the receptionist [?owner] has poor English but this was not a problem. The unlimited [reasonable use] internet was a bonus.

The guy at the desk was very helpful but his English just wasn't the best! There was a small dog on a chain attached to a kennel just outside the office - it appeared friendly but tried to nip at my leg as I passed and would yap quite a bit albeit sporadically. The room looked nice at first glance and the layout was good and there was even an oven in the wee kitchen but the net curtains had black mould along the bottom, there was fly droppings on the bathroom window frame, the tap fittings were old and dripped incessantly. the pillows were very uncomfortable and old and the toilet didn't flush efficiently, with water often continuing to flow into the bowl for a long time or until you flushed it again! I have to say though that the shower was wonderful and I stood under it for a long time trying to ease my sore neck after sleeping on those awful pillows I mentioned! We hadn't thought to check how many sky channels were available before booking and upon arrival we were incredibly annoyed to find they only supplied six sky channels - even that wouldn't have been too bad except for the fact that 3 of them were sports channels, there were 2 movie channels that kept repeating the same rubbish movies over and over and to round it off, there was the discovery channel; no UK TV, no comedy channel, no History channel etc and to add salt to the wound the TV reception on these very limited sky channels was very bad! I will not be staying at this motel ever again!

Very disappointed, the room we had smelt musty, had mould in the shower and bathroom. Old bathroom, old taps which drip constantly. The beds were extremely old, and no support in the sagging mattresses. The bedding was old. Toilet was painted! No room service each day. Nothing close by, except other motels. Desperately needs remodelling, and new beds etc. We were very happy to leave. You pay in advance, so cannot leave if you want to early! First time we have had to pay up front, and now we know why! I cannot understand any good reviews for this motel? All the rooms we saw, were the same. Internet is mostly unusable.
