Detailed Reviews
Positive factors were the location, spacious rooms, friendly staff and nice artwork.
Negative factors factors were the bed, styling and menu. Our bed was two hard king-single mattresses pushed together with no topper pad so that the ridging where they joined was felt. The rooms had an old-fashioned mirrored wall opposite the bed with ugly brown framing within it, and the bathroom had slippery white tiles especially in the walk-in shower which also had a curtain. The menu did not list all of the ingredients such as sauces and was quite limited especially for breakfast.

We only stayed one night but it was clear that the hotel has a culture of positive experiences for customers. Our room was a tad dated but clean and well presented.
Reception staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Parking is excellent and the hotel is well positioned being surrounded by local amenities.

We are regulars at the Angus for many years (before it was bought out by the Quality Hotel Group) both for an annual seminar and regular small training events. The reason is basically there are very few accommodation/seminar facilities in the whole of Wellington with free parking and reasonable charges. I believe there is a new Sebel opened just down the road which may provide some competition. We were not impressed that the seminar room was not set up as we had requested and given all sorts of excuses. Also the morning tea was miserably deficient. However the buffet lunch was amazing so they did redeem themselves. It will really come down to price next year and whether the service and rooms have improved enough to keep our business. I hope the can as I believe they are embarking on a renovation

I arrived feeling unwell with an upset tummy. When I asked for some plain food like toast, the team assured me they’d sort something out.
They not only made me toast, they didn’t butter it and they gave me slices of various “toastiness” so I could nibble at what suited me.
Sometimes it’s the simple stuff that matters most when you’re away from home.

I've stayed in some hovels in my time, but this place is next level. Brown and white stains on the carpet, walls and even the ironing board. Curtains from the 1980s that covered up a pair of rotting wooden doors leading onto a balcony with a depressing view of an abandoned garden that hasn't been tended to for years. Bedding also from the 1980s, in a room where everything is basically brown. We actually dared to go the restaurant for the breakfast, which was inedible. Bread fried on one side (instead of butter), eggs that were scrambled deep in oil.... only to be then told that I would be charged extra if I wanted ketchup on my $5 sausage. The whole sorry place really does feel like it's just been left to die.

Fabulous staff, so warm and friendly. Nothing is a problem. I needed to store a very large birthday cake 🎂, I had bought from another store in Wellington. The Angus Inn staff were only too happy to help us, by storing this cake in their walk in chiller for a few hours prior to the event. The whole birthday party went off without a hitch. Everything was really beautiful. Thank you so much to to staff at the Angus for your kindness and generosity 🙏🙏🙏 We were all truly grateful for your willingness to help and would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to all our friends, family and business colleagues. You rock Angus Inn🥰

What a run down decrepit waste of space. Lovely staff, but they're embarrassed by the place too. A sports bar with no sports and "games on the big screen" but theres no BIG screen, just pokies in an alcove played by the desperate. 4 of the 6 beers on tap are out of stock, the quiet of the sports bar contrasted by the din of doof doof in the dining room. I guess they wanted to create "atmosphere"
Argghhhhh what a run down sorry place to eat and stay .

Loud blaring music, yelling & swearing up and down the hall and in the rooms which continued on until 12:30am from long term tenants. Night staff did nothing to stop it. (Day staff absolutely lovely so I have no complaints about their service and how lovely they were when assisting me when I informed them of the noise and commotion) but if this hotel is to continue to be used for both emergency/long term housing & public guests then rules and procedures need to be put in place as it’s unlikely I will use this hotel again unfortunately.

As a frequent business traveller it’s the small things that make a difference. My welcome was so good at check in I commented that I felt right at home already.
The bar on site gives an option for smaller, lighter meals than the restaurant and felt like a comfortable place for me on my own which isn’t always the case.
But, better than all of that, you get proper milk (not plastic pot) and a mug! This is more rare than you might imagine but makes a massive difference to me at the start of the day.

Friendly welcome and great hotel staff. Room was very clean but very basic and we were at the end of the hallway with no external access so a bit of a hike to drop our bags off. It is in need of a revamp but hopefully the new owners will spend some money to take it back up to scratch as it sounds like it was the place to be back in the day. Pickles the cockatoo is a great welcome shouting out hello and goodbye which was really cute. It did seem like a lot of construction workers may be staying at the moment but it was very quiet. No Sky which was unusual these days and value for money - well a bit over priced but for the location it was worth it with the Queensgate shopping centre right opposite. We did not go to the restaurant although I have heard rave reports about the meals and did not go the bar either - although I wish we did after reading the reviews.
