I would happily recommend this motel, it was very very clean and tidy and less than a five minute drive to Lower Hutt - It is on the Highway but we could not hear the traffic at all so I certainly wouldnt let that put you off. Highly recommended!

We booked this for a 3 night stay in Wellington recently, and enjoyed a warm welcome, spotless and comfortable accomodation and real value for money.
It is increasingly difficult to find places that enable travellers to bring the family pooch, and Hutt City Motel were fab.
A warm and sincere welcome from Bev, approachable and helpful service all round. We were not bothered by road noise, and our 2 bedroom unit was a proper home from home to 4 adults and a small dog. No complaints here, will definitely stay again!

I chose to stay at Lower Hutt because it's close to Wellington and it's cheaper to stay here. Hutt City was an average motel. We stayed in a 2-rooms apartment. Reception was friendly and no fuzz, they get ready our room earlier than check-in time, nice. But once we stepped into the apartment, we realized it's rather small in it, but it's okay for the price we paid. Then we noticed the tap at kitchen couldn't stop flowing, but since it's like dripping, no big deal - we guessed - but when we started preparing dinner, the water started leaking out from under the sink and it became quite messy. The microwave oven was not functioning too. Then we were only staying a short night and left early in the morning the next day, so we didn't bother telling the reception. But I doubt they could have solved the problem at 9pm though.

We booked this motel as it was close to the ferry, when booking, several weeks in advance, we stated that 'we will be arriving from late picton ferry Guest ETA: 2300'. We called the morning of our stay to make sure they knew we would be arriving late, and were told they couldn't find the booking, could we confirm how many of us were staying (5 of us, 2 in each bedroom and 1 on the sofa bed) and they would try to locate the booking and call us back. We had to call them several more times before the booking was confirmed, and they asked us again how many people were staying. They told us they would leave the key in the apartment and the door unlocked.

We arrived to find the room and the Motel reception completely locked. We knocked several times and had to call several times before anybody came to the door, granted it was late, but the woman simply said "oops I must have locked the door after I dropped the key off" and she gave us another key.

We entered the room to find that no bedding had been left for the sofa-bed, even though this had been confirmed more then once that day. We had to go back to the reception and wait around for someone to come to the door and give us the extra bedding.

The room itself was average, the toaster didn't work and there was a leak from the shower that made the living room carpet drenched. I did report these things to the reception staff but they obviously already knew and didn't care.

There was another car parked in our designated spot, right outside the door, so we had to park in a visitor bay across the car park. The following morning the owner was out there washing the car as we carried our suitcases back across to our car, and he clearly didn't care. Obviously not directly manager fault, but just another nail in the coffin of this dreaded stay.

It is cheap and an ideal location for the ferry, other than our personal bad experience, the walls are thin and you can hear neighbours and a LOT of road noise. Definitely wouldn't recommend for light sleepers. I wouldn't stay again.

I had heard about this motel from friends, so stayed a few days as I was in the area. Many other Moteliers could take a leaf out of Bev and Dean's book. They were the most welcoming hosts I have ever come across, and nothing was too much trouble for them..no question went unanswered. My unit was absolutely spotless in every respect, well stocked and extremely comfortable beds ( something I am fussy about ) . It is very obvious that their customer satisfaction is paramount from the time they welcome you to the property, right through to your departure. While the Motel is close to the motorway, its buildings face away from the traffic noise, making it suprisingly quiet. Hutt City Motel is very reasonably priced, excellent value for money, and central to everything..a real gem and highly recommend that if you need accommodation for business or relaxation, then you can't beat this place.. 10/10 Bev and Dean..I will definitely be back

Great place to stay. A little dated but still very comfortable. 2 bedroom housed 5 of us comfortably. Right next to motorway but no disturbing noise. Great friendly service. Would happily recommend and stay again.

This is a budget place. Quite old and tired - but cheap. we found it very noisy with the motorway just outside the window. Laid awake for a long time hoping a car wasn't going to take a quick exit.
Didn't see much of the reception but she was friendly when we arrived.

This Motel is what it is a budget place to stay. We appeared to have been upgraded free of charge, which was a nice surprise even if we weren't told, and spent our stay wondering. The room was very clean with a well appointed kitchen however we had to ask for tea towels and dish cloth. The full rubbish skip right outside the door was a little off putting, and there was a funky smell in the room. Which was explained to us as, the room having just been fumigated. A compendium would also have been a nice touch. My biggest gripe was the other guests. Who looked like a construction crew staying long term. These guys had no thought for others and woke us every morning at 6.30 loading their gear. While I appreciate the hosts have little say in guest conduct I would like to think they could have had a word about the early noise.

I stayed three nights. First day couldn't get the toaster to work, and this was later replaced, but no breakfast. Asked for code for internet access and was told it would be in my room when I returned, which it wasn't and reception was closed. Room was serviced, except for bed being made. Second day room was NOT serviced at all. When I returned in the evening, wet towels were still on the floor, room smelled bad because rubbish not removed. As bed had not been made the previous day, I had made that before going out. Next morning I was woken at 6.30am by guests in rooms around me laughing and yelling out to friends in other rooms before they left for work. Manager/owner told me employees of contractors stayed on a permanent basis at the motel. As my room had not been serviced, I had to collect fresh towels from reception in the morning when they opened. Bed was comfortable, and room was clean when I arrived. Went downhill after that. Could not recommend this motel.
