Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I probably had the best Christmas holidays ever. I have been more than welcomed by the very friendly Jackson family . The house is great and quiet, which is perfect for recharging! The weather was good, landscapes are amazing and you feel like home even more than 20 000k from your own country. I absolutely recommend this place, and I really wish I could come back next time!

The only place to stay if you are heading to the Far North.
Located close to beaches and local small community towns.
You can be as busy as you want with Northland activities or with The “J”s peaceful setting you can kick back and relax.

Exceptional facilities. Main large entertaining kitchen and lounge separate from the sleeping units.
Fabulous for groups or just mixing and mingling with likeminded travellers.
Kitchen has everything you need.
Decor very very tasteful and ambience a big plus.
Outside shower/hose to wash off the beach sand, fantastic large level grassed area, landscaped gardens, fire pit and pizza oven.

Another bonus of this Lodge is the hospitality of the owners.
Nothing is too much trouble for Mark, Ness and girls.
They will make your stay memorable.

We've travelled a lot and this is hands down the best service we've ever had and such a beautiful retreat. We thank you for making our stay so amazing.

We stayed at Summerfields for a week with our family using all of the property's rooms.
It's spacious, clean and has many comforts you would never find in a hotel. And the location - wow, what a beautiful piece of paradise! Countryside, golden beaches and real locals. The community is friendly, giving and unbelievably open plus helpful in sharing insights into their area.

Our hosts...well they are some of the best people we've met - awesome. Nothing can't be done for you - Mark is like a modern day MacGyver come Bear Grylls. Someone you would pick first choice if given the deserted island scenario. And Nessy - you've got to try her cakes and her indigenous treats are wonderful. They and their family take Kiwi hospitality to a 6 Star level.

Thank you Mark, Nessy, family, friends and the local community. You made our stay fabulous and you and your place will live long in our memories. THANK YOU!!!

Damon & Marie Newman (+ whanau and friends)

Always great to stay and there are many good times as the Jackson family go out of there way to make things happen. Plenty to do in and around the property or just sit back and enjoy the tranquillity. Additions like the pizza oven are frequent and the place can only get better.

We have been very fortunate to have stayed a number of times at this hidden gem – and most recently we were able to share the wonderful experience of “The J” with our extended family by renting out the entire lodge and spending our 2014 Christmas in the Far North. The location is ideal, as it is very convenient for day trips to Ninety Mile Beach, Bay of Islands, Cape Reinga etc.

Whilst the setting is relaxing and peaceful, the facilities clean, comfortable, and first class – it is the genuine warmth and hospitality of the owners (Mark, Nessie and their daughters) which make the time truly memorable.
Whether it be a pizza making competition for the children, Christmas lunch for 20+ on the front lawn, or just sitting back with a glass of wine as the sun sets (Mark has a story from every corner of the world and will entertain you with unbelievable tales for hours!); you are made to feel very special and nothing is ever too much trouble.

A visit to the “The J” is a must do for our family every year now!!

My wife and I were married on a wonderful day in late November 2014 at The J...the location, food, accommodation and especially the service were first class and Mark and Nessie were the most wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much and their attention to detail for our special day made for a day to remember.
Everything went off smoothly and we found the venue to be an amazing little haven in the far north. Easy access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and only a 2 hr drive to the top of New Zealand. We would highly recommend Summerfields for a relaxing, enjoyable place to stay in the Far North.

Have stayed at "The J" a few times now and it is a great place to relax and unwind. Unbelievable food, company, atmosphere and of course conversation. Hosts Mark and Nessie are fabulous and the courtyard, fire-pit, wood fired pizza oven and other great features adding to the superb ambiance. A highly recommended place to stay.

We know this place well! Apart from being located in a very handy location for a visit to the Far North, the premises are comfortable and inviting. You won't want to leave! The kitchen and lounge area overlook a lovely flat area of grass where the kids can play whilst you sit back and take in the scene. Great for family with kids, couples or groups of friends or family. Well recommended.

My wife and I have spent a week relaxing in the quiet location enjoying the magic hospitality of the owners, Mark and Nessy who made us really feel special and could not enough for us. Excellent clean quiet rooms in a large property with access to separate cooking facilities and even an outside pizza oven under a purpose built pergola. So close to Northlands famous beaches and to the local friendly shops and restaurants. If anyone is going to travel to Northland area, this is the place to stop rewind and enjoy the happy friendly and knowledgable hosts.
