Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Location, location, location!
These clean, cosy rooms have a classic Kiwi bach feel about them. It you're looking for 5 star hotels continue on your way to Queenstown. Yes, they are dated and some may say small but I found my queen studio with large balcony ample for my week long stay in winter. A bonus too is that your toilet trained dogs are welcome to stay too.
I have enjoyed watching the sun set as despite being on the east coast Cooper's beach is angled towards the west. It's within walking distance of Mangonui village too if you're in need to fish n'chips and a pint.
I'll be back!

The place workd perfectly for us. Its essentially the onlybplace on Oopers beach thats right on the beach, on the water. There is a grassy area with umbrellas where you can leave your stuff while playing. The views are fab. The hoata are great and very accommidaring. They were able to accommodaye parking my boat. The boat ramp is close by.
Great value for money.
Definitely recommend, we will be back.

I have stayed at this motel several times with friends and family. The units are good old Kiwiana style, clean and the staff is friendly. The motel has the very best location, on a beach lined with Pohutukawa, with relaxed locals and visitors.

While this Motel is somewhat dated, the view and outlook with an ultimate beach front location is to die for. Although the sloping floor is initially a surprise, the service given is excellent and friendly. We will certainly stay again when up that way.

We stayed in Unit One ( ground level family Unit) near the BBQ Area. 2 minute stroll to the beach with clear sea view.
Our Host Debbie was warm, welcoming, very helpful & hospitable. The room was serviced daily, clean & very well presented.
An older style Motel but unbeatable nevertheless.

This was our dream beach stay! The motel units are super clean and comfortable and right on an absolutely gorgeous and safe sandy beach with STUNNING sunsets. There are not many of these treasures left in New Zealand. We did not want to leave and will definitely be back. Super friendly staff too. Our new favourite beach!

Beautiful accommodation, just in front of the lovely beach. Very spacious, clean and so quiet and peaceful. It was a lovely location to watch the sunset too, you can just sit on a balcony and enjoy as the sky changes to a beautiful colours of sunset with your glass of wine. Truly a magnificent sight.
Great experiences and friendly staff, will 100% recommend and we will surely come back.

Great hosts, very friendly, curtains were not dark enough to stop the light outside from shining in making the night just like day. We didn't get much sleep the two nights we stayed there. The bed were not that comfortable either. and would not think about returning

Friendly greeting on arrival, awesome situation with the sea lapping at your doorstep, two nights spent with total relaxation in the evenings and breakfast served at our convenience in the morning by the hosts, truly delightful. Accommodation a little tired looking and does require some cosmetic fix up, but we saw past that and highly recommend you stay at San Marino Motor Lodge. Fantastic value for your dollar's!
