Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pros: Generous sized rooms opening out onto huge (shared) deck with good views. Rainfall-type shower was great. Good selection of breakfast stuff

Cons: the fridge made a bit of a buzzing sound.

Although slightly over the shoestring budget ($40/dormbed), Iknow now there is no better place to spend the extra penny.
I wanted to stay forever in the shower, on the terrace, in the comfy beds and chatting with the lovely hostess. Just open the curtains and enjoy the ocean views out of your bed...
So pick up a bottle of good wine at the local wine center in Mangonui, make sure you book ahead and enjoy the awesome views in this amazing place!

With a warm welcome from the hostess, we checked in to our room with ensuite bathroom and double windows which enter to the deck that looks over the valley and the lake of Mangonui , New Zealand.
It was heavenly. A few of the best nights we spent on NZ.

I just came back from a whirlwind 2-week trip to NZ, and spent the last 4 nights of my trip at the Puketiti Lodge in Mangonui. This place is run by a wonderful Kiwi-German lady named Siggi. She designed the lodge herself, and is very helpful and knowledgeable about all the things that you can do in the Far North, because she has done them all herself!

The accommodation itself is luxurious, super clean, and surprisingly affordable. It's set among hundreds of acres of olive groves. It has 3 suites, plus a 4th "great" room that can accommodate a large family or a group of backpackers. Each room is spacious, and has a to-die-for view over the Mangonui Harbor. In addition, there's a huge sunny deck for entertainment and BBQ; a common kitchen area; a lounge area; and a study for high-speed internet and phone access.

I really enjoyed my stay there, and would highly recommend this place to anyone who is planning to visit the Doubtless Bay/Cape Reinga area. For the price, you won't find a better bargain anywhere in the area.

Siggi's lodge is a wonderful hideaway! Off the beaten path, but easily reachable. The rooms are very quiet, spacious and tidy. And the view from the sundeck is just awesome. Siggi is a very open-minded and nice person. We thoroughly enjoyed the personal contact with her over breakfast. Would come back any time.
Mangonui is very cute, has some nice restaurants and is a perfect getaway for a day out on Cape Reinga.

The lodge is certainly worth the stay. Amazing day and night views, massive deck for drinks, nibbles or just lounging around. Absolutely fell in love with the night starry sky view which cannot be found anywhere in Singapore. Our family shared the dorm - the room is spacious, immaculately clean and all the facilities are top notch. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils, cookeries, dish washer which you need to whip up a hearty meal.

Siggi made us more than welcome and was a source of local knowledge. Great bed, wonderful deck and fab views. She gave us veg and potatoes from her garden and wanted us to get the most from our stay.
