We had two short stays here in October and dined three times, twice as a couple and once with our family, including grandchildren. All staff, from reception to restaurant, were friendly and helpful and the whole experience had a proper northern feel. The rooms were cosy; one with a third bed was a little cramped for floor space but the extra bed allowed us to spread out our stuff, so swings and roundabouts, Food (diner and breakfast) was simple and pubby - again very northern - but very well carefully prepared and washed down with local beer and wine from an imaginative and sensibly .- priced list (There was a tempting offer on champagne on the Friday night!)
If the management could make one improvement it would be the addition of a garden and children's play area.

Went on a Friday evening, prebooked a table (which is advisable as very popular), had the fish block to start which is a sharing starter, great variety of fish with crusty bread and butter. Followed by steak and fish pie, everything was fantastic once again, the staff are really lovely, very welcoming and curtious and total bill £65, which included drinks. The tempest has a great relaxed atmosphere and is definitely one of our favourites, obviously we will be returning.

We did enjoy our return to the Tempest arms very much

We had room 19 this time and very much enjoyed the little garden area and heated patio.
The room had a few cobwebs , especially the corners near to the patio doors on the ceiling, but over all the cleanliness of the room was absolutely spot on
The evening meal and breakfast was delicious and the service in the restaurant was as always excellent.

We have been coming to the Tempest now for the last 15 years, at least once but mainly twice a year on our own and with friends & family and we have recommended the pub to many who have also visited and always enjoyed their stay.

We have stayed at all the Individual Inns and love them all but the Tempest has always been a favorite and the original staff recognise us and always are very friendly and take time to chat, as did Martin the old manager

We visited in August last year and was a little apprehensive after lockdown and thought although very different the Pub had the right things in place.
The only ''upsetting'' thing this time was the manager was quite rude to my husband when he went to the bar on arrival.
He rudely spoke to him saying ''you can't stand there and hang around at the bar''. My husband had no intention of standing around at the bar! he was just ordering drinks as we had just arrived , checked in and got a table outside where nobody came to take our drinks order and we were not comfortable using the App. When we visited in August last year, this was the norm, to go to the bar and order drinks.
On check-in this time, nobody advised not to do this and we found the attitude of the Manger very rude & abrupt. However the young barman was very polite and took the order then brought it to our table. Things are very different now in most pubs & restaurants, but being rude to clients is not acceptable on any level.
This said we had a lovely chat to the ''long standing'' staff at the Inn and we did enjoy our mini break and we will return again.

One of our favourite places, not only have we stayed at the Tempest 2-3 times a year for over twenty years but also got married there. We decided, on impulse, to book an overnight stay as we have always enjoyed the gem which has been the Tempest. With the virus, there were differences, no free cakes or magazines or brochures, which was only to be expected. The rooms are the same without the little extras and, although a shame, could not be avoided.
I was surprised that, as Robinson’s are supposed to be refurbishing the rooms, this hadn’t been started during lockdown when there were no guests. With so much less people, and consequential lack of atmosphere, you could see how tired the place is and desperately needs upgrading. We dined in the function room which had tables well spaced, however with mismatched furniture! It was like eating in a cheap restaurant or cafe.
The most disconcerting thing was that there were no other precautions whatsoever for the Coronavirus. No face masks were worn by staff, they leaned over the tables when serving meals and taking away dirty crockery. It seemed like the pandemic didn’t exist.
At least at breakfast they did wipe the tables after diners had left. So very sad but I suppose all good things come to an end. Will probably not be back.

From the minute we arrived to the moment we left the Tempest Arms, we were made to feel very welcome and safe. We stayed in a ground floor club room, the room was clean and comfortable, plus it was a good size. They are very dog friendly, there was a dog bowl in the room, we were given treats for the dog on arrival and the bar was dog friendly too. The pub food was excellent and the prices reasonable, breakfast the next morning was a very good standard. They are about 10 minutes drive from Skipton and there is loads to do in the area. We'll definitely be back.

I took my wife’s away for a staycation and found this place. Amazing room, staff first rate and food and drink to die for!! We stayed three nights B&B and could not have wished for a better break from the hectic world with all COVID-19 rules in place and adhered to.

If you want value for money in a place that you are made to feel welcome and eat/drink to your heart’s content this is the place

We stayed at The Tempest Arms as 2 couples for 2 nights. The rooms were very spacious and extremely comfortable with great facilities. We were greeted by the bar staff who were very friendly and provided a great service for the duration of our stay. The bar has social distancing measures in place with clear signs advising of a one way system with numerous hand sanitising stations all around the pub along with the entrance and exits of the accommodation blocks. We felt extremely safe and assured that where possible, every measure has been taken to adhere to the government guidelines. The food is excellent, we could not fault it at all. It was extremely well presented with good portion sizes. You have to try the desserts, they were huge and so tasty. We have been well and truly looked after at The Tempest Arms and can honestly say we’ve had the best weekend. Chris and Natalie who now run The Tempest Arms are the nicest people and cannot do enough for you to make your stay a pleasurable one. We can’t wait to return over the coming months. Thanks again Team Tempest we loved it!!! ❤️❤️❤️

We stayed overnight at the Tempest and had a wonderful time. The service was friendly and welcoming from the booking confirmation to the check-out with nothing seemingly too much trouble. The room was modern, well furnished and very comfortable, it felt more like a suite than a room complete with outdoor space and the view of the stream running next to the accommodation was lovely.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening and both enjoyed a delicious hearty meal. We did get up too late for breakfast in the morning but the staff insisted that they give us something which we gratefully (and sheepishly) accepted. This is a great place to explore the Yorkshire Dales or enjoy a romantic night away, it is a real credit to the service industry. Thank you!!

The planning: Natalie made everything so easy when we were planning, she was always on hand to answer any questions we had and regularly kept in touch from start to finish. Natalie was very open and honest about what we’d need and advised us on ways to keep costs down without it impacting our day.

The venue: The building really has the wow factor after the recent refurb, looking extremely fresh and modern without losing that countryside pub feel and charm. The whole place is spotless throughout and the outside seating was an added bonus! We used their recommended supplier Bronte Bespoke Events for ceremony and table decorations and the room was absolutely breathtaking.

The food: The meals went down a treat, huge portions and the quality was second to none, which is not unexpected considering the meals we’ve had there previously. Our guests have all mentioned how good the food was when we’ve seen them since the wedding! We still have no idea how they served food of that quality to 51 people at once, everything was freshly cooked and hot, and they went above and beyond by serving special vegan and gluten free meals as well.

The staff: This is where The Tempest really shines, their team worked so efficiently to get the food out to everyone and keeping drinks flowing, we never saw that bar empty that day, but you weren’t queuing for long! Every member of staff looked happy, energetic, and we can’t fault them for one second. We have to add a special mention for Lyndsay in particular, who took over as our wedding planner for the day as Natalie was on holiday. Lyndsay was so attentive, making sure we were having the perfect day, and she organized everything flawlessly. She told us in the morning that we may have to bear with her as she isn’t an events coordinator, perhaps it’s time for a career change as you’d have thought she’d been doing it for years!

The rooms: The rooms are spotlessly clean, modern, and comfortable, everyone had a good night’s sleep and we’ll definitely be returning to stop over again, even though we only live 20 minutes away!

If I could do our wedding again I wouldn’t change a thing. The Tempest Arms, Natalie, Lyndsay, and all of the staff made the day better than we ever could have imagined. Certainly a day we’ll never forget and a venue we’ll be returning to for years to come.

We have stayed at the Tempest many times over the past 10 years either as a couple or with our walking group and have always enjoyed the experience. Sadly our latest 3 night stay earlier this month was extremely disappointing.
We booked room 11 which is classed as an Executive Suite which has its own private patio. The decor and furnishings are extremely dated and in urgent need of a makeover. The battered leather sofa and chair are well past their sell by date and only fit for the local tipThe patio area was untidy and obviously overlooked by the housekeeping staff.
On a more positive note the restaurant and bar staff were excellent as were the breakfast and dinners on all 3 nights of our stay.
The Tempest was recently purchased by a large Brewery and presumably this is why the personal touch offered by its previous owners has gone. On a couple of occasions no water or biscuits were left in our room and we had to get these from reception.
I did suggest in an e.mail to the manager that the room prices should be reduced to reflect the poor state of the furnishings and decor and whilst he appeared to agree with me it was obvious from his response that he wasnt really bothered.
Sadly we wont be returning to The Tempest anytime soon.
