This is an excellent facility in a beautiful forest. We stayed in one of the "villa suites." The villas and Japanese suites are a little walk away from the hotel, with a somewhat steep driveway. They do offer complimentary large golf-cart style rides between the rooms and the spa or main hotel/restaurant.
The spa has warm/mid/hot pools, a cold pool, and a warm pool with various jets. They have steam/dry saunas (separate for men and women, the pools are mixed). They have nice changing rooms with plenty of lockers, nice showers, and amenities.
The forest area is beautiful to hike and walk. It might be a bit treacherous if it has recently rained. We took the main path out to the suspension bridge. It's a bit of a climb, but pretty manageable with decent stairs. It's really beautiful and worth the effort. The northern mountain trail (I think it's "mountain trail #2") is more rugged stairs.
If you can stay at least 2 nights, that would be great to relax in the tubs and do the hikes.
The hotel is a ways out of town. It's maybe a 5 minute ride to the local small village, which does have some good restaurants. It's about a 15-20 minute ride to RuiSui. They have a shuttle that runs every hour, but you need to let them know when you will use it.
The breakfast buffet and dinner buffet is fantastic. Very large with many choices. The lunch service (it is NT$350, if I remember correctly) is a limited bento box.

I visited this park with my in-laws during Chinese New Year. Though we only spent several hours, one could easily spend the entire day. They have nicely maintained trails which hike up to a small waterfall, then up and around the waterfall and back to the main area. We just did the up and back, but it is clear the long way around would be beautiful as well. There was a rest stop with bathrooms about half way up and picnic table/rest stops along the way.
Along the driveway, there are a number of displays of Taiwan insect life. If you have any interest at all in insects, this is an excellent, must-see attraction.
I understand that this park was built by the government then handed over to the local community for employment opportunities. There are a number of dams which control the water flow, but they were done in a way as to not appear too man-made. The water
The hot springs are an outdoor setting with multiple pools of various temperatures. Each pool has a sign of the temperature and PH balance of the water. The pools have different water massage elements, so you can move from station to station and get everything massaged. Of course, bathing caps are mandatory. The changing rooms are nice. If you don't bring your bathing cap, towel or need a locker, all are available at a price.
One of the great things about this park is that they do not accept tour buses, so crowds are kept at a minimum. Even at peak Chinese New Year time, there were just enough other guests to make it interesting.
This was a highlight of our trip and I encourage anyone in the area to spend at least a half-day.

This property is not only a resort but a sightseeing spots too. We have been here to watching beautiful mountain, nice walking trails, beautiful river around, 2 waterfalls and butterfly museum. A lot of thing to watch. If you like nature you can come and visit this place. When we were here, it was very rainy but it doesn't spoil our sightseeing tours. Rivers looks too dangerous, Waterfalls were in full flow. But due to this we can go and cross bridge due to roads were blocked. But over all good to watch. It took around 2 hours taxi journey from Hualien to reach this resort. It has entry fees too to enter this resorts.

We were there in July. The weather nice but hot and humid. The hotel ground is beautiful. The villa we stayed was big and nice. But beware of mosquitos. You find those little friends everywhere in the mountain. The pakage come with breakfast and dinner. There aren't any resturents close by. It takes about 15 minutes of driving time to get to the town. Staffs are nice. Hot spring are good but not lexury.

We (a group of Taiwanese-Americans) spent one day and one night here in July. From the senior citizens to the youngest child we all unanimously agreed that this was the highlight of our trip in Taiwan. This is a very exclusive resort. One comes here to avoid the crowd, enjoy nature, go on hiking trails of various challenge levels, enjoy the sumptuous breakfast and dinner buffets, soak away all the worries in the pools and water massage therapies, and simply have a good time. The staff's attentiveness was beyond what we get anywhere else.
We bought some swimming suits here. Price and variety trumps what we normally find in North America.
This place provided shuttle service from train station. For the size of our crowd, they even drove us to Hualian. That was some service!

It is a beautiful resort surrounded by mountains. It was unfortunate that paths toward waterfalls were closed during our visit. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay. If you do not plan to utilize hot spring bath and walking trails multiple times, it makes sense just buy entry permit only. The lodging is relatively expensive.

Congratulations on creating a hotel in Taiwan with international standards. Nice rooms and bathrooms. Friendly, helpful service and nice surroundings.
Too bad the food was usual taiwan fare for a vegetarian. Three mushroom dishes, some bitter, tough, bamboo shoots and watery soup. Spaghetti was fine, but no Parmesan or other cheese topping and no buns or garlic bread. We saw others eating buns, there was butter at our place settings but ....? When we asked for garlic bread they brought some anemic white slices not toasted at all. My wife asked for them to toast it till brown and add some garlic in butter. Waiter said yes, took it away and came back 3 minutes later with exact same anemic, white, sliced buns.
We watched others in our group drinking wine but when we told the waiter we didn't drink wine he just took our wine glasses away and never offered us an alternative drink. Cannot make any Mango lassi? Papaya milk? Fresh squeezed Orange juice or watermelon juice? Nothing to replace the wine we paid for but are not receiving?
They had a noodle bar but the the steamed peanuts and baby corn were old. And the sauces were not of a very high standard.
After we had finished our meal the maiter'd asked our opinion. We told him the three servings of mushroom were all the same. Too much of the same. Tired of mushroom.
He kindly told us they could prepare some baked dish for us. But it was too late we were already sadly full.
Why not ask our preferences or choice before the meal. We had told them before the dinner we could eat garlic and onion so they had more leeway to cook dishes. But to no avail.
Next day at lunch we discussed all this with same maiter'd and he assured us he had discussed our concerns with the staff at morning meeting and all would be tastier. We again said garlic and onions was ok with us and could they make us fried rice and fried noodle with a nice spicy flavor.
Dishes arrived and ... Anemic fried rice. I've never seen such white, anemic fried rice in my life. No flavor .... No garlic ... No onion. Fried noodle the same. OMG were they listening??!
The maiter'd had assured us he would also get some real garlic toast for us. When the "French toast" arrived the same anemic, white sliced buns appeared like a ghostly apparition from the night before!
We heard the maiter'd scolding the waiters for bring us that "French toast" so we got his attention. He took it away and my wife had to teach him how to make garlic bread. OMG again!
The maiter'd was so sweet we just imagined a stubborn cook refusing to listen to his maiter'd or any customers input. We imagined his response to the maiter'd went something like this: "I know what REAL veg is and we're not having any input from those damned customers!"
We told the maiter'd it was all a shame because they have a five star hotel with a two star kitchen. An international staff would prepare something like meatless moussaka or hummus or even lasagna or some potato casserole would be fine. Anything but mushroom, mushroom, mushroom and watery soup.

We've traveled many places, this hotel is by far the most remote and incredible view along with excellent service. We rode the train from Taipei and connect in HuaLien to Kwan Fu. Hotel sent a shuttle bus to pick us up at train station. We stayed in the western style room with hot spring tub inside the room. Dinner and breakfast are included with price. Morning guided forest tour too included. This is absolutely worth every penny. Highly recommended.

Butterfly Valley Resort is nice quiet resort where you can stay amidst greenery and tranquility. The area is huge. There some nice walking trails. Along the trails you can find streams, waterfalls and variety of plants and flowers. We went in December so didn't see many butterflies, but the spa pools were good. There is sauna as well. There is nice restaurant for some hot tea/coffee and some snacks after the spa. We didn't stay overnight but would have loved to.

Friends brought us here for the day spa. It is great! There are various pools in the spa with different temperatures. The largest pool has a par courts of water jets. The surrounding grounds and gardens are lovely. Spend the day. I felt it was well worth it. You will feel rejuvenated!
