The rooms were outdated, cold and humid during a cold spell. There were no drawers or shelves in the wardrobe. The toilet pot was leaking. The breakfast had no variety in 5 days and the instant coffee was horrible.
This hotel is a good city center hotel, new, clean. Lobby very artistic with a good library of books in both Chinese & English. Grab a book and a cup of complimentary tea, sit on one of the comfy sofas and relax after a full day of sightseeing.
2 night markets in the area you can visit. You can borrow a bike from the hotel and bike to night market or city center is just 5 minutes away walking (actually downtown just consists of 3 streets, in a triangle so it's easy to manage) Loads of good restaurants and good food nearby.
Rooms are good size, clean. Not as beautiful as the lobby but I'm impressed anyways for a decent price hotel in Hualien. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone.
Breakfast is decent, nothing special. But good to grab something to eat before you do Taroko gorge.
Bonus, hotel offer free transporation to/from train station or airport.
The staff are friendly, breakfast served is good albeit low in variety, easy access to the main streets in Hualien for shopping and eating.
The room is big enough for the two of us, and the price is reasonable too.
Definitely worth considering if you come to stay in Hualien.
The room itself was much bigger than what we are used to in Asia. Very clean, comfy bed and big bathroom. While I appreciated the decorations (pretty trendy) the lighting in the room was poor. This is my major complaint. I had to drag the lamp by the desk to my bedside in order to have enough light to read. There were lots of English TV movie channels (kudos to Taiwan in general!). The breakfast was very average, nothing outstanding.
The best thing about the hotel is the service like free bike rentals and tour bookings. Hotel also arranges complimentary train station pickup with their shuttle bus, approximately 10mins drive away. The also booked our day trips to the Taroko National Park and the white water rafting. I communicated in mandarin, so not sure how the staff's English abilities.
I would recommend and stay there again if I ever return to Hualien.
The highlight of the room was the rainfall shower which was outstanding and the bathroom generally was far above the level which I expected. Rest of the room was decently appointed and that extra level comfort which made it worth the money.
Breakfast was ok, and the check in experience could have been improved as it was a little impersonal.
Hotel entrance is alright (not stingy like some outside). There was 3, 4 little stairs at the entrance but no one helped me lifting my luggages. Even receptionist did not help carrying them to my room but held elevator button and I was left in the elevator alone. (It was annoying to see my luggages getting bumped by elevator doors when i tried moving them alone on the up level) It's a four starred hotel. It would be much nicer if you could help guests when they are carrying big lugguages alone.
[Receptionist]
They cannot speak in English well. I have found only one lady in reception who could communicate alright in English. However, the rest of them cannot even make a sentence nor hardly understand English words. I used verbal translator applicaiton and it helped me good. They are all kind with nice smile though, but need to be more upfront approaching to the guests, I would say. They are shy and quiet.
[Room]
Comfortable bed. Clean room. Housekeeping does their good job. I had two huge luggages that are almost suitable for immigrating and had no issue to place them at all. The room was spacious and strategic to use the space efficiently. I liked its layout.
Next to the room door, there was a machine with only Chinese indication so I could not understand what it was for. Would be good if there was English so that more guests can use it well.
[Breakfast]
More aimed for Asian, small range. If u rather want a westernized meal, maybe going to starbucks could be an idea for the light breakfast, is just a few minutes walk down the road.
[Hotel service]
I had taxi tour through the hotel, 3k twd for 8 hours trip. 3k was reasonable price because I literally PASSED OUT after the trip. Lol It was outrageously fun. experience. What a nature!
Fetching the guests to Hualien Station free of charge is good! You can book the date and time at reception.
As a solo female traveler, I was satisfied over the room I stayed. I will come back and stay again.
We stayed the suite and it was still very basic. The overall room did not feel clean, especially the room carpets and black bath. Would most probably try another hotel is visiting HuaLien again. The noodles stall adjacent to the hotel is a great dinner option.
I booked the hotel through the hotel's website at http://www.byeyer.com/. The initial response I got back from them after asking to cancel was to please contact Agoda. When I informed them that I didn't use Agoda and instead used their website, they asked me to then contact Travel King.
Also of note is that Travel King has already charged my credit card for the 2 nights I had originally intended to stay in Hualien.
The recepton area looks very morden with art decor. Enter to the room was really surprise. It has a large LED TV seperate the sitting area and the bed, a very modern setting . The hugh bathroom has glass door rainshower and oversize granite bathtub. When you walkout to the left, you may find small shops. If you walk to the right for about four blocks, there is a major street with few larger shops and few propular brands. Also, you may walk into narrow alley for local merchandise.
Buffet breakfast items are limited but sufficent.
