When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awesome friendly hotel, great bar, lovely meal, clean comfortable accommodation. Jack is an excellent host. Spend some time in the bar chatting with the regulars. Classic kiwi pub. Caravan and camper van parking behind the pub. General store just down the road.

Very good room though next to deck with noisy revellers. Though they stopped straight away when I went and made a comment. Good bed, good food, good service - friendly and helpful, relaxed. Would recommend to anyone

After dining in several country pubs throughout NZ I can honestly recommend Ikamatua on the West Coast for a great meal with a variety of real vegetables. The only pub that offered a choice of chips or vegetables.

Go to iki pub and make a weekend of it. Recently changed ownership into a local family. Great place to take kids, big open areas for them to run wild. Also heaps of room to park your campervans or even to pitch a tent. Heaps of nice walks close by, freindly staff, cozy pub with nice atmosphere and great food :)

Myself and my friend have been mountain biking in New zealand. We had just completed the big river route which was tough. When we got to the hotel we were treated with a massive smile a great comfortable room and offered help and advice. The room was amazing value for money and both dinner and breakfast could not be faulted. The bar was lively and friendly and we felt we could easily relax. I had a major problem with my bike and the owner drove me to the next town in the morning, I've no idea what I would have been able to do if I didn't get this help.
The area itself is outstanding so if biking I would strongly recommend you choosing this as part of your route.

I had a mid-winter stay in a wee workingman's cabin dating from at least 50 years ago, which was clean and cosy with the snow down low on the hills. $20/night was an incredible deal, with comfy beds, fluffy towels, free piping hot showers and warm bedding included. The meals were generous, very tasty, well presented and fairly priced.
Delicious draught beers available.
The owners are genuinely friendly and hospitable.
The communal kitchen was a tad grubby and untidy, as were the grounds which are in the middle of a make-over.
So good I stayed an extra night! Highly recommended for the budget-conscious traveller.
Good base to explore Waiuta and Blackball from.
Don't go past it!

Although I have driven through Ikamatua many times, this was my first stay at the Ikamatua Hotel. And what a wonderful decision it proved to be.

In the midst of a substantial refurbishment Nikki and her team delivered an incredibly hospitable and friendly service at every turn. Our little room had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had in paid accommodation, and coming with a small bathroom, every need was satisfied.

Special mention simply has to be made of the pub restaurant - we sampled several of the diverse offerings on the menu. If the size of the portions were generous, it can also be said that the meals were cooked to perfection. In the mornings we were treated to a continental breakfast, an extra included in the tariff.

There is little doubt that we will return to the Ikamatua Hotel. The tariff is extremely reasonable, but it was the friendliness of the staff that truly stood out for us. True West Coast hospitality - as unique and tempting as any whitebait pattie!

$47 two chicken burgers fish and a scoop of chips
2 bottles of coke/lemonade
Too expensive for what you get in the burgers.
Lack of chips for the price of what was paid for.

I’ll would not recommend this to anyone for food.

We stayed as a family at this great wee country pub. Fantastic food and super clean accommodation. It is insanely cheap accommodation and the beds were the most comfortable we have stayed in. Highly recommend this hidden gem to those wanting a real kiwi experience.
