Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place was excellent. Stayed two nights. The room was comfortable with TV and AC. Showers and toilets separate and close by. Kitchen and shared areas were lovely. Hot tubs on the premises. The owner was most helpful and advised of the Crown Mines trails starting just across the road... even lent a head torch to see better in the workings. Also advised of what best to do in a day in the Coromandel.

Fantastic location. Friendly staff. We ended up requiring two rooms as our booking number increased from 2-4. Fortunately, one was available. The owner was very fair in what she charged us for the extra room/numbers. I was very impressed as in this day and age a lot of businesses would have been less than fair.

After a long days walk, was nice to enjoy a cold beer / wine on the deck….which also housed the spa.

We had a great stay at Riverside Accommodation. The beds were comfortable, and the room was spacious and clean with everything we needed. The first night, we got Chinese takeaways from Paeroa. The second night, we used the BBQ outside and cooked hamburgers and ate on the deck.
We used the spa pool. It was lovely sitting in the misty rain looking at the mountains. We had our own kitchen facilities, but the main shared kitchen and lounge areas I could see worked well for guests.
We have done the rail tunnel loop many times before - it is great. This time, we did the Windows Walk and then walked further along the Crown Track to the waterhole. Lots of people were swimming.
We continued on through the long tunnel to the Dickey Flat campsite, where we stopped, had a snack, and headed back.
I would recommend the walks. I think it took us about 3.5 hours return at a reasonable pace. It was a little wet, so we did not stop for long. You definitely need a torch for the long tunnel past the waterhole before Dickeys Flat. It would be helpful to have a torch for the Windows Walk tunnel - but not necessarily crucial. You could use your cellphone app. The glow worms are cool, so do pause and turn your lights off and look up!
Anita, from Riverside Accomodation, is very knowledgeable about the area.
We would certainly stay at Riverside again.

Incredibly welcoming host, who makes you feel like you're at home. They really went the extra mile.Fantastic location with the gorge walkways literally across the road and winery up the drive. Loved sitting on the deck watching the fire and the gorgeous bush setting.

If you are going on a hike and staying overnight at Karangahake Gorge, the location of this motel is simply one of the best! It is located just across the road from the entrance to the gorge! There is car park for the guests.

The room that we were allocated was clean with its own bathroom. There was heating available but we did not use.

There is a communal kitchen with oven and microwave. Tea, coffee and milk provided. There was also a fridge for the guests food storage.
A jacuzzi and a small snooker table were there for guests use.

It’s only a short 10 minutes drive away from Paeroa so one could easily get food supplies either to cook or takeaway!

Overall it’s a good stopover accommodation at the Karangahake Gorge area.

Spent 2 nights here as last minute booking for 7 adults and 4 kids on our Xmas trip to the Coromandel. Greeted by very welcoming owner Anita on arrival who was also very flexible with getting an extra bed in to accommodate 4 of us in the same room. Shared main living area and kitchen with other guests. Free unlimited wifi. Pool and foosball table with deck and comfy armchairs outside for outdoor living. Conveniently located right off the motorway with a close-by old mining railway tunnel ending in a glow worm cave that cam be explored at night. Rooms have A/C unit and electric fireplace. Our room had an ensuite which made it very useful for showering the kids. Overall a very enjoyable stay. Would highly recommend to others.

This place has only been open for a few months and it's one of the best places we have stayed in whilst in NZ.

Great location, right next to the Karangahake Gorge and a 10 minute drive to Paeroa.

Hosts were very welcoming and couldn't offer you more! Free tea and coffee, milk and butter and even shower gel.
Clean and really nice modern decor.

Absolutely recommend!

Our four nights here were the best in our two and a half weeks in North Island NZ. The ever smiling Anita really looked after us. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the shared areas are heaps of fun, mixing with all the other travellers. The facilities are outstanding for the price. There is so much to do in the Karangahake Gorge if you are an active person or you can just laze about in the beautiful scenery watching for large trout in the adjacent river.
