Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Set on a beautiful bay. If you have a boat and enjoy fishing - this is a good spot for you. Ablution blocks old but kept clean. It would be useful to have a map of the available facilities on arrival. We weren’t aware that there wasn’t a kitchen for example. The camp is mostly set up with permanent caravan sites.

We stayed on a powered site in Area4 , which is mainly permanent caravans etc . Karen & Kevin were very friendly and accomodating even when we asked at the last minute if friends could join us for a couple of nights in a site next to us they went out of their way to allow this to happen. We had planned to stay 4 nights but we’re able to extend that to 9 . It was so relaxing, could’ve stayed longer...We were able to launch the inflatable from the beach and we were even given fish by other campers we met.Amenities were clean and showers($2))were warm and had good pressure, no kitchen but that didn’t bother us as we had our own facilities .The sunset alone was worth the camp fees...

We stayed in the Seaview Apartment. Which is a self contained flat on the back of the managers house but you wouldn’t know as you parked out back. Could find no reviews at all on this as they were just for campground itself and pics on website were not that clear so took a punt. Was great. Stayed in middle of winter so was very quiet. Clean and tidy and warm, double bed and bunks for kids in same room but plenty big enough. Ten metres from beach. Kevin and Karen were great hosts, friendly and helpful. Beach is very cool. You can fish from beach or from wharf at northern end. Gravel road last two km. No WiFi though. Enjoyed our two nights.

My family and I have been coming to this campsite for over 30years . The beach is very safe for young family’s , and excellent for swimming , kayaking and fishing. The boat ramp is sand and tidal , Ive had no trouble launching boats with tractors and cars /utes. However high tide is the best time to launch. It’s close to fish the famous red sheds and scallops are also accessible in a few bays closer around . The campsite is on a working farm , which has friendly hosts and managers. The local shop isn’t to far away also with great cafes. The drive to both coasts and surf beaches is also nearby. The weather can be great here , and also rough . This place is a gem , all year round .

Amazing location with a great safe beach to keep the kids happy. Fishing is superb round the bay with a couple of easy access ramps to the water. This is the beat place to come if your after peace and solitude, alternatively if you want more remoteness travel up to Port Jackson.

Booked and paid upfront for two sites with friends and a small child at this far northeastern campsite advertised as beachfront over new year. There are hot showers ($2) and flushing toilets but no kitchen facilities and all electrical points in the shower block have steel bars screwed over them. You can put your ice packs in their chest freezer 1.5 km away at the office for $2 a night. The campsite IS NOT beachfront. You are in a paddock (cowpats, hoof divots and all) in some hills a good 0.5km or more from the sea. There is no sea view at all from any point on the campsite, even if you’re at the nearest site at the bottom of the hills. The beachfront spots are those permanent caravan and hut things that have regulars in. It’s basically camping in a field, you could be anywhere inland in New Zealand. I feel this is major false advertising as the website clearly states “Otautu Bay Farm Camp, which is bordered by a working farm, is spread along the best bay” and “Otautu Bay Farm Camp is a spacious family camp beside a sandy beach”. So at no point does it say you’ll be staying in the working farm! The photo of the non-powered sites on the sea is not a photo of the actual sites. Water was running out in tanks by day two so they were telling people not to shower. The beach is nice but small/ narrow. I would advise staying at the DOC in port Jackson up the gravel road as every site is on a stunning white sand beachfront. Or if you need electricity and kitchen facilities, Shelley bay camping is about half an hour south of it and is actually on a beach. Friends left after one night, I stayed two then left. We were told no refund would be possible as we had paid upfront. It was a shame it soured a stay in a spectacular part of the country. The basic facilities would have been tolerable if we were opening our tents up to the ocean every morning as promised.
