However, some visitors have voiced strong dissatisfaction with the value, pointing out hidden fees and the need for better food and amenities. Traveled as family ( 2 adults + 2 children ) and stayed for 2 weeks at Royal level section.Done my research before booking, so knew what to expect. Hotel is nicely build into jungle, each building block hidden by trees. Rather small sandy sea inlet was perfect for our 5 year old daughter, as water is shallow and crystal clear. It was good for playing in the water, building sand castles and spotting some fish. Actually there was many different type of fishes swimming around, so you can snorkel from the beach. It was really nice to walk around hotel and try to spot all different types of animals and birds in jungle. At first hotel grounds looks huge but really its only about 10 or 15 minutes walk from main lobby to Royal level section or beach inlet ,which are furthest points.Hotel runs shuttle service as well. Please not its 3 separate shuttles : for Royal level, for First club and general one. As we stayed at Royal we had access to everything, but there is some restrictions depending on your bracelets.
For breakfast we went to Royal level restaurant, as its located by the sea, if sitting outside, was possible to see sunrise in the mornings over Cozumel island. For evening meals we tried all restaurants available, its not 5 star gourmet dining but there is good variety of restaurants and plenty of choice. Service was not consistent sometimes better, other days slower and not as good. We didn`t make big deal about it.
All Royal staff was nice to talk and helpful, informative, offering some tips to make our stay better. Starting with bell boy and Royal shuttle driver Carlos, to Royal reception team of Keila, Paola, Alondra and Leidy de Dios. They really do great job caring for all guest.
Hotel runs kids club and our daughter spend most of days in the club. She really liked it. As they run different hourly activities, go to the beach and swimming pool too. Aveli, Regina and Katherine looks after children in the club during the day and in evening they run children disco too, just our daughter was usually to tired to participate.
We bought unlimited Xcaret package, so went to park multiple times just for half day to swim in rivers or to see animals, turtles, etc. Xcaret evening show showcasing Mexican history was very good, definitely worth the visit.
Overall hotel is perfect for children or someone who likes nature and want to explore all parks nearby.

We would like to thank you for choosing Occidental as your holiday destination during your visit to Riviera Maya. Our guests play a key role in helping us to improve our services and we truly appreciate the feedback. We truly appreciate your comments about our Royal Level. I agree with you that our Royal staff is recognized for the high level of attention they have with our guests offering them a treatment worthy of royalty. I agree with you about the amazing view from the Royal Level restaurant to the ocean and the delicious food that we offer. And you are right in regards of the "Xcaret Park" it looks like an extension of our hotel, since is so close and you can go just walking or having the boat ride! The Unlimited Experience is the best option to enjoy the park everyday as you enjoy the resort. I also agree with you about the hotel having something for every age, From our "Kids club" (that l must to tell that all the kids love for our incredible staff) the game room that is perfect for teens, our salty water pool with a direct entrance to the ocean that is only for adults, or our amazing services from the Spa. And all the great activities that our amazing entertainment team offer every day and night. It was an honor to host you and your family and I hope that Occidental at Xcaret Destination will be your number one choice for future family vacations. Kind Regards.

Perhaps it was the timing, but I didn't ever feel particularly relaxed like I had hoped. There was construction going on at the beach (due to Hurricane Delta), kids in the adult pool, and it was during Covid times. Some cons are that the food quality is adequate, but nothing to write home about even with the specialty places. The buffet options were not great and I wish they at least would have had the taco place open for lunch. The staff are very friendly, but we always felt like we were being upsold for other services not covered or for the vacation club. The pros were that it is an affordable place with a private beach, jungle like environment w/ wildlife, and an impressive entrance. They do take your temp each time you enter an eating area and required masks in common inside areas, plus require daily room cleaning. Luckily, it wasn't at capacity so that helped ease some concerns about being around too many people. Though they did run out of towels for the pool/beach one day. It is more family oriented than a romantic couples get-away or party central for 20-somethings. However, if you want something affordable in the area for your family and still have the amenities of an all inclusive resort then I recommend it. Since I don't have kids though I will probably look for an adults only resort next time.

My husband and I went recently for our anniversary trip and had a great time. Despite a rainy weather forecast, we ended up having great weather. It is generally very humid, frizzy hair alert! There is a lot of walking involved with this hotel, the hotel buildings are numbered and it might be quite a trek from your hotel building to the main area. There is a little tram that takes people to and from the little bay area every 15 min. The staff were mostly pleasant and accommodating. The employees are always wearing their masks appropriately and doing their best to clean and disinfect everything. The food was so-so, typical buffet food served in the main buffet area for breakfast and lunch. The restaurants are a little weird, not much atmosphere, and food is mediocre and comes in very small portions. All of the soda tastes like diet. The tacos are authentic, not what we are used to as Americans. The boat ride to the nearby Xcaret park is convenient, but sadly, there is no ride back after the park closes (last boat at 4 PM i believe) and after walking in the park all day your feet will be sad that there is no boat ride back haha. The beach is not a real beach, more of a little bay, but the water is a beautiful color and the light waves are soothing. Stay away from the employees trying to get you involved in a time share or a royal club upgrade, tell them you are busy and don't have time to hear any speeches. The pools are clean, beautiful bright blue, good swim up bar with delicious frozen drinks. The rooms are nice and clean, housekeeping does a fantastic job. The bedding is a little weird because they give you like 5 sheets but no blanket. If you wake up early you will be able to feed monkeys on your patio! Beware of having the water (ice cubes, soup) the Mexican water can be a little rough on the tummy. Overall a nice place, would return in the future.

First, I will say the resort is in a beautiful location and the grounds are lovely. We have been here one day and We are happy with our building and the “jungle” view room with balcony. However, we came here as a busy family to get some quality time together.
We requested connecting rooms (because 2 adults and 2 teens are not allowed to stay in one room) when we booked months ago. I’ve also been in communication with the hotel reminding them of that request. We are on the same floor, but separate rooms. The room that connects with ours does not seem to be occupied, but we were told we could not get connecting rooms. It’s very disappointing not to go to bed and wake up as a family- we are so busy going different directions back at home and this vacation was our time together. This fact alone (that they are not able to accommodate connecting rooms) will prevent me from visiting this resort again.
We arrived at 3pm and spent over an hour at check-in (only a few families were ahead of us- not sure what took so long). The next couple hours were spent listening to sales pitches, rather than getting some family time at the beach or pool. They really want you to attend their “Royal club” presentation. So it felt like the first day of our vacation was “wasted” in a way.
We’ve been to 3 restaurants and have yet to find an entree for vegetarians that was offered. Pacos Tacos did have an option after we asked, and the tacos were actually very food. The snack bar at the pool was disgusting. Even my husband, who eats anything and is not vegetarian, could not stomach it.
I am very hopeful that our stay gets better, and will update my review if I have some positives to add. However, like I said, not being able to accommodate parents and teens who want to stay together will prevent me from booking here again.

We spent 8 nights here and although we had a great time (thanks to the location and the park next door) the hotel was very average and inconsistent.
The reception staff were very unfriendly and not welcoming at all, during both checkin and check out. We were there for our honeymoon which our travel agent mentioned (as well as us) but nothing special was done for us, absolutely nothing.
Each block is located 2 ‘concierge’, they are not concierge but sales people. All they ever wanted to do is sell timeshare, you couldn’t ask a simple question without being pressured to get involved in the time share scheme. As concierge no one ever told you anything, you were always second guessing and didn’t want to go to concierge in the fear they would sell sell sell. We were in block 21, so not sure how the other concierge were. On our last day they barely said a goodbye or can we help with the luggage as they seemed annoyed they didn’t get a sale from us.
The room we had was very average, the bathroom was very run down. The cleaning was very inconsistent. One day they would take both dirty towels, another just one. For days we had no face washers.
The staff throughout the complex were friendly enough, such as the pool, bars, restaurants (although the staff at the beach buffet were not that friendly).
Another issue you had was you could never ever get a sun bed, these were reserved from all hours of the morning and many would not be free all day. They need to get more sun beds.
The food on the restaurants were really good, especially the fish restaurant Pescador. We went here 3 times and the food and service was amazing. Our waiter Antonio Dominguez went above and beyond every time we went to the restaurant and the chef Edwin Ozuna cooking was outstanding! Highly recommend going to this restaurant and asking for Antonio.
The best bit about the location of the hotel was being around nature, all the animals and being close to the park. Recommend getting the unlimited pass as you totally get your monies worth.
We had an awesome trip based on how we made it, but would not stay in this hotel again or recommend it.

We would like to thank you for choosing Occidental as your holiday destination during your visit to Riviera Maya. Our guests play a key role in helping us to improve our services and we truly appreciate the feedback. We are concerned about the lack of service during your check in, our front desk team has been aware. We assure you it will not happen again. We have requested that our Front Office manager review the training process and address this situation with the rest of our team at the front desk. We appreciate you letting us know about the lounge chairs at the beach area. We provide many sun beds throughout the hotel, including around our three large pools, our man-made beach and our adult-only pool. I apologize if you had difficulty finding an available one. Please know that we have rules in place to prevent guests from holding beach chairs and leaving them unattended for more than 20 minutes. Our team is in charge of liberate them in order to have them available for our guests. Indeed, there are people who ignore the established policy and begin to move them away early. We have reinforced compliance with this policy and we have also considered providing more beach chairs at our resort. Please accept our apologies for not living up to your expectations and thank you so much for the taking the time to write this review as it give us the opportunity to improve. My husband & I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. If you're planning to spend a few days at Xcaret Park, then this is a perfect hotel in which to stay. You can easily walk or take the little boats into & out of the park, numerous times throughout the day. Overall it's a very impressive hotel. The main lobby & the surrounding areas are appealing & the gregarious parrots dotted about added to the overall ambience. However, the check-in process was very time consuming. There were only 2 couples ahead of us and two reception staff checking them in, but it still took nearly half an hour standing there before being attended to. Our luggage was taken to our room in block 12, but the elevator to that block was out of order for the duration of our stay and we were 2 floors up. No one was ever there working to repair it during our stay. Overall, the staff are very friendly. We give special mention to Manual and Louis in the breakfast buffet. They were very attentive & it was a pleasure to see them every morning. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for one of the evening buffet waiters who completely ignored us (Unfortunately, I didn't see his name). It was almost laughable, as he lavished attention on a couple sitting right next to us. It was never easy to get into the speciality restaurants. So expect a wait. We enjoyed wandering through the grounds, seeing some monkeys and lizards. The beach buffet was a very enjoyable spot for lunch. We found a very good selection of food in both buffet restaurants. And we enjoyed the relaxing evening saxophone player, while having a drink by the canal. A big annoyance was the lack of free WiFi throughout the entire hotel and the high costs if you paid for it. We were told that they use an external WiFi supplier, who sets the prices. Why don't they change supplier? In a hotel of this calibre, surely free WiFi should be part of the all-inclusive package. We had what appeared to be an unusual request; namely, to get help to book a car ferry over to Cozumel with Transcaribe, for our onward stay at their sister hotel Occidental Cozumel. We had various staff at Guest Services attempt to help, but the ferry company's site was very unpredictable. Camila & Darlene tried their best. But it was Gabriella who succeeded in the end. Thanks to all of you for trying to help us. So, all in all, it's a lovely hotel and we would recommend it. Just, please, sort out a new WiFi provider and your guests will be even happier.

We were last here four years ago. We had lots of fond memories, and hoped there would be no negative changes, as the last one had been virtually perfect in every respect . We were not disappointed. From check in to check out two weeks later we were made to feel like V.i.I'd the whole time, all the staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. Our room had been recently repainted, new king size bed was supremely comfortable, revamped ensuite with super shower, lots of clothes hangers, and a well stocked fridge with a proper coffee maker. We wore wrist I.D. bracelets which were also the door key - brilliant idea. The entire site, inside and out,was doubtlessly clean, and all the anti Covid hygiene precautions and social distancing precautions quietly and seamlessly in place. This also extended to all the restaurants. Food in the buffet restaurant was majestically wrapped, and all staff masked, an example followed by guests,I am pleased to say. More shuttles to take you round the site, all surfaces disinfected at each turnaround point. The silver service restaurants had slick, friendly and efficient staff. The food menus were imaginative, food excellent. One duff meal (tough steaks) out of 14, and several gorgeous meals, Almond Chicken probably the overall star, but several others that ran it close. Quality of the house wines very good. The wildlife delighted, particularly the spider monkeys and coati mundis. The pools were warmer than we had hoped, sun beds disinfected each day.We had a great time throughout.

This was my 2nd time here, first being in 2007. There were 3 of us in one room for a "girl's trip." There were two double beds but they brought us a twin sized bed on wheels allowing all a bed of our own. The room is simple, very clean, with a nice sized shower with a bench in it. We were really only in the room to sleep too.
The resort is beautiful and in the middle of the jungle. This allowed us to see iguanas, monkeys who make visits onto your balcony, coatis, flamingos on the property, also a deer who will come up to people and let you pet.
There is a large meandering pool with a pool bar. Also another pool on other side and the royal level has their own pool. I never spent much time at the pool as I'm a beach person myself. There is no traditional beach here but there is a wonderful man made lagoon where the water is as smooth as glass on most days. Don't forget a float so you can float around it all day! It is great for children as it has a very shallow, sandy entrance. There is also an adult salt water pool with lots of fish so bring your snorkel gear. (You can borrow theirs for free for an hour at a time) There is a beautiful cove area next to salt water pool to snorkel but it was too windy on the days that I had an opportunity to go which was very disappointing! (making it too wavy and rough)
The staff are extraordinary!! Everyone who walks by you will speak to you. If you have any concerns they are all willing to help and get you what you need. The snack bar watier, Layver, was wonderful and introduced us to some new drinks. Our daily waitress at the beach buffet, Monica, was great! The concierge, Geoffrey, was a big help too. Emiliano, the lifeguard, was exceptional! He took his time to teach my 2 friends how to snorkel and pointed out many lifeforms in the salt water pool that we would have totally overlooked. He also took many pictures of us for us.
The grounds are beautiful and well kept , even had some Mayan ruins on site.
The only excursion we did was to buy the week long pass to Xcaret for $220 and we went there 2 days to do the underground rivers that were awesome and also went on a 3rd time in the evening just to see the show. The show is surely a DON"T MISS. It was incredible! Two hours long all about the history of Mexico, it was truly delightful!

I loved my stay at Occidental Xcaret!! It was breathtaking and peaceful. This place is one of a kind from its beautiful rainforest to its extravagant beach!! I have been here twice now and would come again in a heartbeat. This time we had our room key as a bracelet which was perfect; because of this I didnt have to worry about loosing my key or having it drop out of my pocket. Plus when I am wearing my bathing suit I never have any where for my key card, so having it on my wrist was not only convenient but it made it way more efficient. We didn't have to worry about Covid here the resort made sure to take as many precautions as possible. They always checked your temperature before entering the restaurants, plus ypu had to put handsanitizer on everything you entered. They also had you step on sanitizer mats to make sure you did not carry anything in on your shoes. Overall this resort is a must see. I also loved the staff, they are very friendly and always willing to help. My favorite staff members would of course be our conceirege David building 22. He was amazing. David always made sure everyday that everything was excellent for us; checking in to make sure we had everything!! Thank you soo much David for making out trip extra special. I also have to give a shout out to the Australian staff member Geoffrey!! He was so nice and kind and very informative! Both David and Geoffrey deserve 5 stars across the board!!! Thank you guys!!

Just would like to say I stayed here four years ago with my wife and the place was a lot better from the food to the accommodations. This time was was relaxing and the grounds were great. The 1 bedroom I was assigned this time needed some major updates.
I said something and I was moved and that room afterwards was completely painted from top to bottom, mold removed etc. room # was 17201.
The staff were amazing as always can’t say enough from Eva, Jose, in the clubhouse and the bartenders that kept my glass full of whatever me and my wife wanted to drink, Javier was one of the bartenders name.
We liked all of the staff in the buffet Cristina Kauil was here name she was great.
Again the place needs some major updates just feel like a lot of stuff for example the little private party for club members down by the beach was not the same the last time I attended the party we had mariachis and the food was exceptional. This time was just vegetarian bites not what I expected. The hot tubs didn’t work and there was not enough room for a lot of people to hang out there.

is there an eco park ticket discount ?

If you mean Xcaret Park, No, is not included. I bought my tickets through Xcaret Park website before traveling but when I was at the Occidental, I found out that they have a booth next to the Xcaret entrance ( by the beach side) and they told me I could buy the tickets at a discounted price because I was a Royal Level guest. Not sure about the price they offered but for sure you have to buy the entrances either online or on site.

I haven’t booked these specific tours, but over many trips there I have found the Royal Level concierges to be extremely kind and helpful.
