On our first day, when we arrived at the small airport of Nuqui, captain Marcos was already waiting for us. He took our baggage and stored it on the boat.
It was raining and the sea was very rough so we arrived completely wet at ‘Casa Cielito’. The ride with the public boat took us around 2 hours.
To be honest, I thought that every day in this region would be as rainy as today, but it turned out very differently from what I had expected.
Alfonso and Maria were already waiting on the beach and welcomed us with a coconut drink. They also prepared an amazing dish made out of the freshest ingredients.
From the beginning on, I knew that the pacific coast would take a special place in my heart!
On the second day, Maria and Alfonso organised a hike for us that took us 8 hours!
The hike was amazing: it started with a canoe ride up the river and after over an hour of relaxing, we headed into the jungle. Heat and humidity struck immediately. Fascinating how dense this jungle is!
We visited the most beautiful beach
‘Amargal’ located between the warm pacific and the green jungle. We were completely alone surrounded by brown sand. There was also a small waterfall where we took a refreshing shower.
When we got back we were rewarded with an amazing sunset!
On day three, Alfonso and I went on two dives ‘Amargal’ and ‘Panguera’ with a local diving school. The underwater world was filled with tons of fish, turtles, eels and beautiful coral! No coral bleaching! 😊
We had a very calm dive in Amargal and a very challenging one in Panguera... there were a lot of currents! But this depends on the time of the year.
We even heard the sounds of whales!
After our dives, we ate sashimi made of tuna which Alfonso bought on a fisher boat on the sea. It was delicious!
In the afternoon, Maria showed us their ‘garden’ filled with different plants and fruits and explained us how they use them.
Day four was probably the best day of my life.
Marcos picked us up with his boat at ‘Casa Cielito’ and the adventure began. We went out to go whale watching. It didn’t take us long until we spotted the first whales. It was a family of three with a baby humpback whale. Soon after, a dream of mine came true. The small one began jumping out of the water - not once, but approximately 15 times!!
At the end of our 3 hour tour, mama whale surprised us by jumping completely out of the water. Amazing!
After this amazing experience, we headed to the ‘Termales’ accompanied by their dog Ramona. This was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sound of the jungle!
As our last dinner, we were served ‘ceviche’ made out of tuna and got some sashimi.
Unfortunately, we had to leave on day five and we took the public boat to get to Nuqui, which took us only 1 hour!
An amazing experience ended at the airport.
We really fell in love with the pacific coast of Colombia. For one this is due to the amazing environment which left us stunned! And secondly, Maria and Alfonso made us feel like it was our home! They are the friendliest people and definitely one of the best hosts we’ve ever met!
As soon as we are able to, we’ll get back to this fantastic place❤️

El Choco in Colombia is an stunning place full of beautiful flora and fauna. Casa Cielito is truly a paradise nestled in-between the towns of Nuqui and Arusi.
Beautiful location, great people and service, and delicious and fresh local food!
Cielito follows a concept of being eco-friendly, being part of the community and giving back to the community and for me that is very important.
Had a great time, full of adventures, hiking, the river tour, and the scuba diving was one of the best I have ever done!
This place will always be in my heart, and really hope to be back soon!!

Unique, amazing, captivating and fascinating don't come close to describe our experience in this magical place. The warmth of the people was felt straight away, the food was homie and full of flavour and the place itself was simply a little heaven on earth.

Casa Cielito and Alfonzo the host provided us with an unbelievable experience. We were really pleased with the hospitality that Alfonzo provided. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was organized and we had a seamless experience as soon as we arrived on shore. He organized everything and we had an eventful itinerary even though there were torrential rain storms almost everyday. We still managed to surf, hike, fish and play board games with Alfonzo which was a pleasure. His team of chefs fed us meals better than anything we could find in surrounding towns. He an the people of Arusi felt like family by the end of the trip. The house and property are well taken care of and groomed even though the photos before we arrived didn’t give the accommodations justice. Big mahalos from the Hawaii boys and also a huge gracias and mucho gusto for the hospitality and experience at Casa Cielito. Aloha from Mike and Givonn (the Hawaiian gringos)

What an amazing place!! I went to Casa Cielito with some doubt, since I was traveling with my wife and four year old son. I left with some of the best memories of my life!
Casa cielito is located an hour from Nuqui airport. The 50 minute boat ride is stunning as you border a raw, virgen tropical rainforest. We felt as if I were in Jurassic Park!
We spent a total of four days in Casa cielito. The house accommodation is very rustic yet comfortable, and by far the nicest of all the boutique hotels i saw in the area. You can see the beach from the rooms and the bathrooms are true luxury given the location.
The food in Casa cielito is unbelievable - Fresh albacore, coconut rice and “patacón” are a typical dish we were served - I could it it every day.
My favorite daytime activity was whale watching. Nothing like seeing a humpback whale and her baby offspring jumping less than 15 meters from you! We also had a cooking lesson in Arusi, spent a day with the local surf club as honorary jury for their tournament, and did incredible walk through the jungle.
Alfonso was very attention in making sure our experience was great.
My only heads up would be for those who are expecting white sand, wavy beaches.. this is NOT this type of beach. The Pacific Ocean is colder and darker than the Caribbean beaches and the sand is very dark. I would argue, however, that this beach is very magical in its own, and I loved exploring it!

I have to say, that there are few places on earth where you feel this excited, amazed and most of all so confortable surrounded by the powerful nature, that even though you are very far from home, so still feel the warmth of the hospitality. Cielito is definitely one of those places. I went on the Sardine Run Expedition with @divecue and the hosted the expedition in Cielito. I think there is no better mix than having a wonderful hotel, with excellent meals, and incomparable hospitality six the wild ocean just a few steps from the house. There is definitely few things that can be compared with cielito. I think I doesn't really matter if you go on a romantic weekend, adventure with friends, whale watching, diving, surfing, swimming, of truly anything, as this place is simply wonderful to make you have the best days of vacation in you life. Can wait to be back there. Thank you Alfonso and the outstanding crew.

Our stay in Cielito was like a dream come true, everything went smooth from booking to our last day. We traveled from Medellin to Nuquí. When we got there Captain Marcos was waiting to take us to Cielito on his boat, the ride takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. He explained to us a lot about the region and answered all our questions about Chocó, he was professional and we could tell that he knew how to sail to perfection. When we got to Cielito, Alfonso greeted us with the best fish empanada and fresh coconut water. The establishment is amazing, everything is clean and well organized, the room we got was upstairs and had everything we needed for our stay and an amazing view. After eating we had some time to settle and then Alfonso had planned the best itinerary for us, we only had 3 complete days (we definetely recommend to stay at least 4) and we wanted to do absolutely everything, so it was nonstop. That evening we went to the village Arusí (which is 5 minutes walking away from the house) to have a culinary experience with the ladies from the village. They cooked for us and taught us how to make traditional desserts from that area of Colombia. We also had the chance to walk around the village with them, they showed us the only star fruit tree they have, which they all share. It was really nice to see how hospitable these people are, they don't have much, but they are happy and happy to invite people to their lives. Nest day started with a delicious traditional breakfast they cooked everything from scratch and the ingredients were so fresh that they picked herbs from their garden and used them tight away! Then we met captain Marcos again who took us whale watching, this experience was unreal, the ocean wasn't as calm as it usually is so we saw 2 or 3 whales. Then we went to have lunch at the Amargal reserve, where we saw different animals and had a fantastic bath at a beautiful clear water waterfall, after this we started heading back to Cielito through the jungle guided by a local, who showed us a lot of different plants and animals, then we got to the river and had a wonderful conoe ride back to Arusí. The next day we decided to go whale watching again, this time we saw a lot of whales! We followed a mother and her 2 calf for about an hour, they were playful and in the surface for a long time. After this we went to the Guachalito beach and hiked to the love waterfall through the jungle, were Margarito showed us 7 different types of plantains and cracked a coconut which he got from a palm tree He climbed bare foot, the hike ended at the natural hot springs where we had a natural mud face massage and just relaxed for a little bit. We walked back to Cielito where they taught us how to make fish sancocho, it was delicious and absolutely fresh! While having lunch we were fortunate to see about 5 dolphins playing really close to us, again another amazing experience. After having lunch we went to the mangroves, we had never seen anything like that, it was full of exotic plants that where new to us. We also stopped somewhere around the river and met a family that lived there, when we got there it was really cool to see how they were processing rice.
Overall we encourage everyone to stay in Cielito everything was handled professionally and organized to perfection. We were honored to have lived the Arusí culture like we did!

I stayed at casa cielito in July 2017, and I had an unforgettable experience. The house very comfortable and beautiful, good food, and appropriate architecture for a place as pristine as Chocó. I enjoyed several activities that they organized for me, such as canoeing, fishing, diving, and ecological hikes. This year I will return for sure!
