On paper (and Tripadvisor!) , this looks great. The Lodge iteself is very comfortable, great layout, well equipped, and fantastic views. However, the unavoidable elephant in the room is the main Highway, which thunders past 24 hours a day. It is on a hill; so you have lorries changing gear going up and using their engine brakes going down. It is constant, even indoors with the windows shut. Service was also poor. Bed and breakfast turned out to be a delivery of milk, bread, margarine, orange drink (not juice), tomatoes and eggs on Day 1, then nothing for the remaining 4 days. The Booklet says the Lodge will be serviced daily; apart from a change of towels on Day 3, nothing; not even bins emptied. A faulty cooling/heating unit caused the electrics to trip regularly. We reported this, but it was still broken when we returned for a final (pre-booked) night two weeks later.

When I first stumbled upon this villa on Google Maps and the official website, it seemed almost too good to be true. There must be a catch! But everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Our Host, Helen is the most thoughtful, gracious host I have ever met! She is super prompt and provided me and my family with all the information we needed and showed us around. The villa is just perfect! It is beautifully decorated and furnished with particular attention to all the details for the best comfort. The attention to detail was incredible! It very much lives up to the photos. The grounds were impeccable and simply beautiful. Location is incredible!
Our stay at Lakeview Lodge Karapiro was magical beyond all expectations. If we come back to Karapiro, we would not consider staying anywhere other than here. Absolutely perfect! To Helen, thank you very much for taking care of us and of our needs during our stay!

Booked Huntington last minute on our way to New Plymouth. Wow was the only feeling we had when we entered the house (actually it was part of the lodge). There were two rooms with wonderful view, 3 bathrooms and a toilet (there was washer, dryer in the unit). There were plenty of toiletries in the bathrooms. The large square dining table could sit up to 10 people. The kitchen was fully equipped for us to cook or even bake in-house. Everything we needed was supplied. There was a continental breakfast basket prepared for us, there were plenty of stone fruits, eggs, tomatoes, cornflakes, muesli, jams in it. There were two kinds of milks, two kinds of juices and more than enough butters stocked in the fridge. There was a Nespresso machine with lots of capsules and Zealong teas and many more teas were supplied. These were very impressed. The living area was very spacious and a very expensive horizontal view of Lake Karapiro. We were gifted a vintage port wine too. Ample of parking space for our car(s). The garden was nice to walk around and we were encouraged to pick the fruits in the site. We was told this beautiful property was on the market for sale. Not sure if there is chance to return to it (hope yes). Joanne was definitely a welcoming host. Thank you for sharing your beautiful accommodation and offering such a warm hospitality.

We stayed at Lakeview Lodge after experiencing Hobbiton and really enjoyed our time there with the owners Joanne and Jon. The property - which is composed of two modern cottages - is located on the top of a hill facing Lake Karapiro and has been nicely designed by the owners. It is very well equipped for a self-catered accommodation and you will find all the comfort and equipment needed to spend a lovely time there. The breakfast basket is also delicious and full of fresh farm products. If you travel with friends or family this place is perfect and I would strongly recommend staying for at least 2-3 nights as there is a lot to do in the region. Last but not least, do not miss the farm tour with Joanne who will show you around the property and share her passion!
