Stayed the night before tramping the Paparoa track. A historical building with the character maintained. Friendly helpful staff. Loved the special touches such as grandmother's silver cutlery, the historical photos, the quirky quotes etc. Enjoyed a well cooked and delicious meal, (best ever very tasty Blackball sausages) with the death by Blackball chocolate dessert..."to die for"...so good. Lovely continental breakfast included, with tasty Blackball honey. A big comfortable double room. Shared bathrooms. Everything clean and comfortable. Good location in centre of village. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
No Trip to the West Coast is complete without a visit to Blackball so much History and Nostalgia,And no visit to Blackball is Complete without a visit to this Fab Gem of a place Absolutely top notch Food and service The burgers were the best we have had,If you do nothing Else in Blackball make sure you visit this Fab cafe pub etc
Rooms range from a family (sleeps five), to singles, twins and doubles. Located in the heart of this small town Nic is welcoming and accommodating. No ensuites, but more showers than people staying. Breakfast and wifi included, all rooms have garden aspects. Free parking. Very quiet nights sleep, perfect for a rest before tackling the Paparoa Track (the latest great walk). Plenty of book to read, a pool table, washing machine, plentiful showers.
We arrived in Blackball around morning tea time, so decided to get a coffee at this pub, because it had a cafe sign outside. We went into the bar and sure enough they served tea and coffee. They also had a selection of cakes which were good value. On the walls of the bar/cafe they had some interesting pieces of history and some amusing social commentary ... see the attached photos. This place should NOT be confused with the more famous "Formerly the Blackball Hilton."
